Location for visiting Oxford Nice village with choice of places to eat Breakfast was excellent Abbey opposite hotel
We didn't get the loo roll we asked for
I liked the old style pub and decor
I did not like the fact that it was oposite a church, the bells kept me awake and they were rung early in the morning so I was awake from 5! Also the journey to Abingdon was very slow as the road in is very busy.
Proximity to the Abbey. Pleasant walks. Quiet considering it is on a main road. Friendly and helpful staff.
Fan In shower didn't work. Toilet seat needed refitting.
The bar was very clicky and did not feel welcome at all. Spent most of the time in the hotel up the road which was most friendly and welcoming.
Very relaxed, excellent dinner and puds. rooms adequate, nothing luxurious and could do with up date but that's why we like it, laid back and comfy.
It does need a facelift in bedrooms, tho we have always been in the same one! But overall nothing we don't like, wouldn't go back if we did.
The George is a great village inn/hotel opposite Dorchester Abbey.Good atmosphere in Bar, food excellent.Room very comfortable, great value for money.
Location ok for surrounding area
On arrival they notified us of a room change, they gave away our twin room and offered us two doubles, one each, we choose one but had to get the bedding from the other room as ours was dirty. The reception area was filthy, especially the carpet behind the check in desk, once in our room, which by the way was not in the pub as we thought, but in a row of Amex buildings at the back of the pub. We had to clean the top of the two bedside tables before we could put anything on them, they we're sticky, the floor had biscuit crumbs on it,we only stayed one night, not the two we had hoped for,we did ask for a refund but we're told it's not there policy to do that. Therefore we had to find and pay again for somewhere to stay the following night.
Lovely big comfortable room and all nice and clean.
Breakfast was a shambles. I had to wait ages for tea and they had run out of most things.
The food for both the evening meal and the breakfast was very good. LOVED the crackling with the pork!! Sticky toffee pudding fab. We were in room 19 - lovely to be able to have a good, hot bath at the end of a busy day being a tourist. Room had plenty of space & was very comfortable. Overall good... a few things could make the stay even better
When we arrived we were initially offered a twin room even though we booked a double. In the room there wasn't enough milk, and an open half-eaten pack of biscuits didn't inspire confidence. The 13A socket was loose, and in the bathroom the grouting could do with a decent clean. All small things...easy to put right... overall good value for money... but could be excellent! We will be back!!
Relaxed establishment with good beer and good food.
Rooms needed some updating.
15th century charm, quirky rooms with sloping floors, exposed beams and so on Very warm and cosy Fair size rooms, most facilities available The evening food was good, price OK Breakfast was excellent
We booked a table in the restaurant but wasn't told there was a function 'till we arrived. No real problem as they reserved a table in the lively bar which probably had more atmosphere anyway !
Good location for my needs. Friendly staff Excellent throughout
Nothing i'm very satisfied thank you
I loved how friendly the staff where and how lovely the room was and the breakfast was great too. I would definatley stay here again.
I misjudged the distance between the hotel and the person I was visiting but I would stay here again.
Free wi-fi and the food was very good and well presented.
I was asked to pre-sign an authority to debit my credit card should we damage the fixtures & fittings etc. we are 55 not 18 years old!! Also paid cash for room etc but invoice stated credit card. Had to get this countersigned by staff.
Everything was great. The bar, the restaraunt, the accomodations exceeded my expectations. The bedroom had a four poster bed with tasteful art work on the walls. The bathroom was like a modern spa. Just wish I could have stayed longer.
It was raining.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was historic and a Midsomer Murders film location. I had a very nice meal and a comfortable room. Lots of on site parking and close to the motorway with Heathrow not that far away.
The village is full of charm. Breakfast is good. No problem with parking.
No plug for the bathroom sink. You can clearly hear occupants/TV in adjacent room.
location to abingdon was ideal
the smoking area is at the bottom of the steps that lead to the room we stayed in so was a bit noisy untill 23.00. when you want to get to your room you have to squeeze past smokers.
Good breakfast Good size room
Room needed a bit of updating especially the bathroom
Location, room, food, staff
The only little thing was that the room was a bit cold on arrival so had to wait about 40mins for the bathroom to warm up before I took a shower!!
Location was excellent - parking was easy and it was easy to get to. Interesting old building and the bar was lively. But room was quiet and bed comfortable.
Breakfast was a bit hit and miss - Sunday breakfast is offered until 10.am but at 9.30 I felt there was a loss of interest....good bonding with other guests in the 'hunt the milk jug' game.
the village itself was lovely & quaint the abbey & grounds beautiful and near the river thame..we met a few of the local people who were very friendly they told us about the history of the abbey..we would'nt hesitate to stay in the village again.
the george well what can i say..i can only say about the room we stayed in we had a double bed which was very uncomfortable so we didn't get much sleep..the room was very tired & dated.the furniture had seen better days..breakfast was help yourself on sundays which would have been alright if you had some there to help yourself to..so all in all not something we would wish to experience again and definately not worth the money we paid.
Lovely location (across the road from the Abbey). Characterful and attractive old building. Really top-quality bed. Good beer and atmosphere. Cooked breakfast excellent.
Staff friendly and obliging but not equipped when having to deal with emergencies
Lack of phone in room and reception details, When I was taken ill there was not a lot of support.
