This was a really pleasant location, in a quaint village with many period cottages and surrounded by quintessential English countryside. The coaching inn itself was ideal for us as elderly travellers. Beds were extremely comfortable and all expected facilities provided. The breakfasts and evening meals were really excellent and the staff were all delightful and very helpful.
Having to leave for the return journey home!
Location and it's traditional ambience
Standards vary between visits
The area is brilliant if you like 'Old England' and a good base outside of Oxford.
There are not characters to explain how our visit was, however to summarise, Poor service Poor cleanliness of rooms Poorly paid/trained staff/attitude Visit the White Hart for none of the above..!
clock chimes every 15 mins
Location, Location, Location! The staff could not do more for us. This was our fifth stay in four years as our friends live nearby.
The hotel is becoming dated and will soon need some serious renovation. But we will still go back
Good size room and bathroom. Plenty of parking. Interesting dinner which used good quality produce and was a good sized portion.
Many many thanks to Kira and her sidekick Vinni for helping us get necessary paperwork back to the states. Kira went Above and beyond what was expected! And the hotel was great also!! We will always stay here when we are in the area!
We stayed one night in a four poster room - room 6, remarkably comfortable and slept soundly - the Abbey quarterly chimes did not disturb us at all. Dinner was good, as was Breakfast which was as good as we have ever eaten, and the service first class. Car parking was spacious in the Inn yard.
The wine list was limited and not a match for the quality of the food at dinner.
Our room over-looked the courtyard, so the noise from people in the pub below kept us awake at night. The room was also quite small and over-priced for what you get. We had had lunch here the day before, though, and it was really good, so I would definitely recommend having lunch here!
Lovely location, beautiful building, friendly staff, in particular Lauren who went out of her way to be helpful. Excellent breakfast!
Poorly serviced rooms. On arrival no towels or toiletries. Beds clean and comfortable but rooms needed a thorough spring clean.Cobwebs, dirty pelmets and skirting boards, worn carpets and scruffy furniture [I was in room 2]. This hotel could be great, it is a beautiful building, with lovely staff, but I was very disappointed with the room, it was poor value for money.
Dirty room and carpet Outside area (smoking) filthy. Noisy uncouth locals in bar. Noisy deliveries early in the morning.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent
Poor wifi in the room and TV didn't work
staff breakfast & dining rooms, location, food - cooked breakfast v good quaint i really like the place but please see my what i didn't like.
the rooms and decor across hotel really (really) need a spruce up, painting, cleaning. general maintenance would go a long way for example, on the extension bedroom, you can even see broken tiles on the roof. door numbers with missing screws, rooms with shower fans & lights not working etc, all general maintenance it could be so much more. i wonder how much repeat business they get. this is a hotel with only a small bit of TLC could be sooooo good!
The exterior of the building picture postcard. Breakfast was very good and Fountain room was also very nice Beer garden
Bathroom had no ventilation hence the huge amount of mildew., needs a full refurbishment. Corners and exposed pipework dirty. Bath panel cheap and did not fit Bedding not changed daily. Bar area although rustic the seating was not clean. Reception area / cubby hole also needs to be updated and the door to the office closed so not exposing the mess. Was not asked at check out about my stay.
Perfectly placed for the historic Abbey
The location is superb. all the charms of a small village in the south of England. Attractive décor in public rooms. Perfect for visiting Oxford which was our purpose in staying there. Would definitely return.
Great location. Lovely historic ambiance,
Waiting for breakfast table on morning one with no obvious reason other than a possible shortage of staff. No wait on morning two as buffet prepared, but plates were cold and rashers and eggs were tepid. Abbey bells ringing every fifteen minutes throughout the night could keep a light sleeper awake.
Seemed to be only interested in the locals
Location. Cooked breakfast and dining room.
Decoration and appearance very shabby especially bedroom and bar. No evidence of modernization. Furniture and decoration unchanged for decades. Staff showing little enthusiasm.
Looked very pretty, old coaching inn, lovely courtyard, large car park, very attractive village, food very good, powerful shower.
Service a bit distant, polite but a few smiles would have helped. Odd system for breakfast, small room so people have to wait, only one person on duty when we were there.
Lovely building. Rooms clean, bed comfortable. Shower very good. Nice location and village.
Restaurant closes at 9:00 pm. Breakfast too late on Sundays at 8:30 am. No one about in the morning to leave key with if leaving early (7:30!!!). Indifferent attitude of staff.
It was a good location. The single room was reasonable value and the breakfast was OK.
The person on reception was off hand to the point of rudeness. The carpets all looked dirty and in need of replacement. The steps outside up to our room were in poor repair and the non slip surface was worn. The whole place needs a facelift.
Location in small village. Restaurant with clean linen table cloth and napkins for breakfast as well as for dinner!!! Very good cooking and excellent full english breakfast.
Bedroom rather old. Little space in bathroom - room 1. The restaurant is being run by the manager on his own what results in long waiting time. Not such a problem in the evening but annoying at breakfast. Food gets cold on the plate whilst waiting for a toast.
Food in the restaurant was good. One young member of staff who was very helpful & doing most of the work.
Too few staff, one man seemed very surly. Room was poorly decorated & no air-conditioning. People left waiting to be seated at breakfast for ages before a member of staff came.
Food was excellent and village beautiful.
Bedroom could have been cleaner and bathroom refurbished
