For business events, the George Hotel offers 3 conference rooms with a capacity of up to 120. All conference rooms have Wi-Fi connectivity and the surrounding areas offer a excellent range of corporate and team building events.

Wedding ceremonies and receptions for up to 120 guests can be catered for, and the hotel also holds a civil wedding license.

At Christmas, the George Hotel comes to life with festive lights and activities. The hotel is adorned with traditional decorations which take you back to the golden age of true hospitality, service and comfort.

The George's festive party nights are held from mid-November to mid-January. Clearly ‘These offer a fantastic menu to suit all tastes, a disco with fun party games and prizes, beautiful function rooms with spectacular decorations, decorative tables with streamers, party hats and much, much more!!

Overlooking Penrith’s main street, the Devonshire Restaurant serves contemporary English cuisine, with strong traditional influences, in a light and relaxing atmosphere. All meals are prepared using fresh, locally sourced produce (where possible). a cuisine that is contemporary English with strong traditional influences.

For a more informal meal, The Oak Bar is the ideal setting, serving traditional bar meals beside the open fire.

All meals are accompanied by a fine choice of specially selected wines from the Old and New Worlds.

Area information

Just 4 miles away from Lake Ullswater, Penrith is the hub of the Eden Valley and the gateway to the Lake District. It is an interesting shopping centre with a good mix of traditional shops and sophisticated arcades where such items such as famed Penrith toffee and fudge, traditional Cumberland sausage and intriguing work of local artists and crafts people, are to be found.

The Tuesday market is just one of the many activities Penrith offers all year round. In May it is home to the May Day Gala Parade, in June the ever popular Appleby Horse Fair is held and in August the Agricultural Show, Lowther Show and Pottery Festival attracts many visitors.

Once the capital of Cumbria and the trading link between north and south,
Penrith still maintains excellent transport links via the train station and nearby M6 motorway.

Travel information

By car From the m6, leave the motorway at Junction 40 from the south or 41 from the north. Follow the signs for Penrith town centre. Once you enter the town centre itself you will see 'Woolworth's' on your right. Immediately after that turn left. After a few yards the road opens up; our car park in entered via the archway on the right. By rail to Penrith. Continue by taxi, bus or walk. (1/2 mile) By air to Newcastle (90 miles) or Manchester (120 miles): continue by coach or train.
