Comfy bed. Spacious room
Could hear someone snoring in the next room.
The food was really good the staff were all really friendly and attentive The bed was really comfortable
The room was rather hot even with the radiator turned off. I thought having the window open might have meant it was noisy but it wasn't.
excellent location - and was able to book in late afer 2400 hrs
Good staff - Clean and breakfast was good!
A little noisy, but there was a wedding party on
- Staff friendliness - Breakfast quality - Location - Vintage atmosphere
- Maybe bathroom would needs refurbishment
Staff very helpful
Food was typical pub Room very old and basic Price was over priced for what you get, I have stayed at £70 hotel with whold lot more comfort.
I liked the location near to the centre. The good value meal options that kept us in the hotel. The food was well presented, tasty and service was friendly.
I didn't understand why the fire door upstairs was kept open and what was automatic about it.
Convenient location not far from railway station. Pleasant informality in a building of great character and history. Very good breakfast.
Some awkwardness in finding one's way around long corridors and seemingly numberless little staircases. Bathroom door ill-fitting and jamming. Not all lights in the room working.
quiet and nice near downtown good view really great food fun atmosphere
creaky floors I couldn't wald to the loo at night without waking my wife and the neighbours (almost) shower hard to use - ideosyncratic! No Skype - No iTunes - restricted Internet which means a lot to me old uncomfortable furniture no bureaus in room - limited drawers
The location of the hotel and the choice of food on the menu in the restaurant, the staff was very helpful and polite.
Did not like the service for breakfast on the morning we left, it was obvious there were some staff problems as we had to wait more than an hour to be served breakfast, there were four of us in our party and each one of us ate our breakfast on our own, the food and drinks were cold and the staff who were on duty had no idea what to do,I felt sorry for the staff and I personally thought the manager should have come out and spoken to the guests, there were some very unhappy guests in the restaurant that morning, the problem was rectified on check out but I would have preferred a stress free breakfast.
Staff very helpful. Good breakfast. All round very pleasent.
Good location, good price, room was economical.
The late night music which was too loud, some staff seemed to be frosty, the food had a long wait and wasn't the nicest!
The staff (reception, bar etc) were all very friendly and helpful. The central location is good. The bedroom was nice with a reasonably modern bathroom, and an extremely comfortable bed. Bar food and Greene King beers were also excellent.
A minor criticism, overall, but the corridors are drab and so feel dirty (although I am fairly sure they are not). They are in urgent need of brightening up with redecoration and new carpets
I booked this hotel as I had an exam the next day and it was close to the exam centre, the hotel didn't inform me when booking that there would be a wedding at the venue. The music didn't finish until 12.30pm and then there was people arguing outside of my room until 1pm, there was no one on reception that could sort any of this out and if there was they wasn't answering there phone. I've never been in a hotel were I could still hear music with ear plugs in and 2 pillows in top of my head. Then the breakfast the next morning wasn't nice at all, it's definatly over priced and would not recommend anyone to stay there. When I complained the next morning all I got was a lousy apology.
Room was clean and comfortable staff were pleasant
Staff, food, bar.
Door handle to bathroom stuck and was sharp.
Olde worlde charm, courtyard, bar area. Quiet night's sleep despite town centre location (no function on the night we stayed)
Some bumpy floorboards (character?)
Staff friendly helpful Rooms clean, comfortable. Location ideal for my needs
Nothing of note - except no wholemeal bread for toast at breakfast on a Monday morning!!! hiccup in ordering
One of the friendliest, most comfortable hotels we have stayed in. All the staff impressed us with their professionalism, assistance and general attitude towards us and their work. Nothing was too much trouble, even though we were on such a short stay. The manager also was a friendly and approachable man who took time to advise us of an alternative route home so we missed a very long traffic backlog. The food was also far better than we had expected. A very well presented menu, breakfast excellent--and hot. Our stay this time was a necessity--we shall return just for pleasure, to explore the local countryside etc. We shall not be looking for alternative accommodation, we are already looking forward to staying at The George. Please pass on our thanks to the staff.
Give me long enough and I'm sure I'll think of something!!!!!!
Location into city center, close to railway station
Bar/restraunt was excellent Room was a good size Very clean City center location Friendly service assisted me with my heavy luggage. Storybook courtyard.
If i were to stay again i would ask before booking if there is to be a wedding during my stay...it was very noisy and there were numerous fights breakout in the room hallways. I felt they were understaffed for the occasion. Reception didnt always pick up upon calling.
The room was generally in very poor condition. Carpets dirty water marks down wall from a leak. Wallpaper peeling from ceiling. Fire door outside our room padlocked. Creaking floorboards outside our room especially noisy when people walking around at 3 am. Very disappointed as we booked this as a wedding anniversary treat.
The George has character. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The beds were comfortable and clean. The breakfast was very good - well cooked and presented with good choice. There was plenty of hot water. We thought it was good value.
The decor could have been better. My room was very dusty. My window was fine but other members of my party could not close the window properly. The hotel was noisy but there was a wedding so that was due to other guests not down to the hotel.
Loud noise from wedding party that lasted beyond midnight. Children running up and down corridor throughout. The english breakfast was of a very poor quality. Room had faulty bathroom door lock. Broken and boarded corridor window. Sub-standard paintwork throughout. Not informed of wedding party. Need full refund!
Large room.Bed very comfortable. Good food. Good bar with great atmosphere. Ideal location.Staff very helpful. Quiet even with a wedding reception on same floor.
