The food was excellent. The room was cold and considering it was marketed as the honeymoon suite not much privacy as you are on the ground floor with people walking past !The bed was terrible, sagging and we had a sleepless night. The heaters in the bathroom was not switched on and we ran out of water after 1 bath!My husband didn't much enjoy his cold shower! The breakfast service was extremely poor, there didn't seem to be any control over who was serving what table. We had to ask for tea, again toast and again for breakfast. The so called buffet had run out of more or less everything!Even glasses!Need I say more!

Excellent Hotel right in the heart of the old town Rye. This is a proper five star with luxurious rooms and very attentive staff. The food is expensive but really top quality. Breakfasts are amazing. For a romantice break it is ideal. No parking at the Hotel but we got round that ok as you can park from 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm on the street outside and move your car to an all day car park (only £1.50 a day) which is 500 yards away.

The hotel is beautifully furnished. The staff welcoming and friendly. We had a wonderful time. A very small point but some of the seating around the perimiter on the upper level of the restaurant was not comfortable owing to the hight of the seats relative to the hight of the tables. These are on the right hand side as you enter the restaurant from the reception.

Pleasant staff. Convenient location. There were no windows that could be opened in the bedroom only a double glass door which on a ground floor is not secure, particularly at night when air is needed. The bathroom could have been cleaner, particularly the shower and bathrail.

Very cozy, although we chose a weekend where there was a large function going on so we found it hard to get service at the bar!!

Just a very pleasant place to stay in an attractive location. Breakfasts were good, we liked the pears in ginger in particular, room was comfortable and the staff were helpful and attentive. Although the food was in general terms good there was a tendency to overcook some of the dishes e.g. fish and chips was rather dry also toast was sometimes burnt.

Cheerful, helpful and plentiful staff, excellent food, very convenient location, very quiet at night, comfortable rooms and plenty of space in the restaurant, bar and public areas. Duvet too efficient.. We had to ask for sheet instead and just use the bedspread on top.....but the weather was warm for early November. Sumptuous bathroom, but I'd feel guilty about taking a bath in so large a tub, given the scarcity of water in se England! A lot of rather steep winding stairs and doors, which would be difficult for anyone with reduced mobility, as there is no lift.

The decor was really lovely. The service was good. The attention to detail - Frette sheets, ren bath products, Teapigs tea etc. The location was central for Rye. No parking facilities - probably not a problem in winter but definitely in the summer. Details regarding this should be on the website as most people will arrive in Rye by car. Also, be clear about the target clientele - couples without children of any age and families with small children don't mix well. We would not have booked if we had known that the young family with children is king in this hotel. As a couple, we did not appreciate the bar area accommodating small children, babies in fact. We went to the Mermaid Bar instead that provided the suitably adult environment that we expect in a licensed premises. We also didn't eat in the restaurant because we didn't want to run the risk of our evenings being further ruined by, not just the children - it's hardly their fault their parents choose to take them into adult spaces after bedtime, but their parents trying to keep them in order. Our room (30) was lovely, however, we were underneath a family with small children. The constant patter (or rather loud thumping) of tiny feet, the loud noises at bathtime, the sound of crying or a parental telling off was not conducive to the relaxing treat we had anticipated for ourselves. There were other rooms that are not family rooms and we didn't book a family room! Sorry, but it meant The George didn't make any money out of us and we didn't get to fully enjoy what it has to offer.

Excellent hotel. Very nice and quiet rooms with all facilities. The restaurant offers fine food and waiters are very relaxed. Open kitchen. We love the UK for holidays and this is the best hotel in the very nice town of Rye. Book and look for yourself WIFI was not working in the evening. Reason ? In the morning it worked. The girl on duty at the reception could not book us 30 min earlier in the restaurant for unclear reasons. These are however minor points

Wondeful chill out stay which was ideal for my husband and I. We stayed 2 nights. Liked the Hotel v much, ideal for shopping and lovely restaurants, just a step outside the front door. The bed was v comfortable, although the George is right on the High St it is v quiet at night, and you do get a lovely nights sleep. Ideal location for Camber & Hastings. Flat shoes recommended as the cobbles are not always easy to walk on. Rye is steeped in History so a v interesting place to visit. I loved the quaint shops, and lovely tea shops. Highly recommeded. Thank you for the upgrade. We will return. Eileen In an ideal world I would have liked a spa area/gym - having said that I'm not sure what room you have to do that...... (the toilet flush in room 46 needs looking at).

Great location for visiting Rye. Rooms were very comfortable and their renovation done to a high standard. We had dinner at their restaurant and found the food to be good, yet found some staff to be underwhelming and other staff quite good making a mixed experience. The morning breakfast was superb. Some dinner staff demonstrated different levels of enthusiasm. You'll need to park in the station car park or near the city wall car park; it's not that far, but you will need to buy the multi-day option before buying the one day option… not really The George in Rye issue.

We both loved everything about the hotel, our room was luxuriously comfortable, peaceful and relaxing and our every need was met by the friendly reception staff. Would also seriously recommend the Restaurant where we enjoyed a fantastic meal on Saturday night - make sure you book though as it gets very busy. Will definitely be going back again.

Good attention from staff who were relaxed but professional. Room 20 was good but perhaps not luxurious but good enough. The small terrace outside is a nice touch and was good to have. The whole layout is impressive -the mix of designer chic and antique works very well. The food was very good and reasonably priced. I have seen some comments that it is expensive but don't get that at all. We enjoyed both lunch and evening meal. Good energy to the place with plenty of helpful staff which is unusual but definitely appreciated. The room (20) was a bit too noisy from whoever was upstairs - just voices and footsteps but still very audible and a bit irritating. The tables for eating in the bar area (beneath the open terrace) were a little uncomfortable - that is to say the chairs too low but more importantly one felt a little out of the action as the main restaurant room has the ambiance one is looking for (or indeed the outside terrace which looks great) .The back bar area (with the bay window seat) could be a little more interesting but is still good compared to the 5 or 6 tables before the main restaurant. Did not feel entirely comfortable and felt a bit exposed . Maybe if there were two or three larger tables there instead it would give a little more intimacy and comfort. But again, overall, the experience was good.

Lovely location. Very pleasant staff. Hotel very clean and lots of character. No on site car park not a problem as public car park only 5 mins walk and cost just £1.50 for 24 hours. Rye is a very pretty interesting town and The George is ideal place to stay. Accommodation slightly expensive.

Nice hotel in a great location. Rye is a wonderful place. A tad expensive for what it offers. There probably is better value to be had in Rye at one of the smaller places.

A lot of thought and care has gone into the decor and refurbishment... we got lots of ideas about how we'd like to do our own home! The room was fantastic - comfortable, spacious and felt like a modern take on a classic style. The staff were helpful, friendly and efficient, and we even broke the habit of a lifetime and ate in the hotel restaurant rather than find a local place, as the menu looked so good.

“I greatly enjoyed the hospitality and friendliness of the staff, who were both prompt, courteous and obviously skilled at their profession. I was able to book a taxi for my journey to the station even though it is a relatively short distance, but I had a number of bags (the fare was £5.60) for future information for other travellers and the driver was most pleasant, particularly having to navigate the cobbles. The purpose of my stay was to attend a Friends Day at Great Dixter House & Garden. I look forward to a return stay in the near future to further explore Rye and its delightful surroundings.” Doreen, Moreton |
