Clean room Comfy bed Hairdryer Iron/board Trouser press
Could not turn on shower, black flakey paint on windows, chipped bath, stains on ceiling, make up mirror so high you could not use when sitting
The food in the bar was superb and very good value Lounge was very warm and comfortable for a relaxing evening
I don't need to say this I am sure everybody makes the same comment SQUEAKY FLOORBOARDS IN ROOMS
We have stayed a number of times now and will continue to go back. The George has everything you need for a short stay.
Staff were friendly Lovely cosy atmosphere on a very cold night
Breakfast was only average, full English not quite what is usual.
Quaint cosy room, clean & warm.Quiet room, good food, friendly Staff, loved our stay.
Television too small unable to read tv guide and it kept freezing.Otherwise no complaints.
Hotel room was clean, warm and comfortable. Reception person (male) was friendly and polite.
Lack of service or polite staff in the bar. It was a Saturday night and busy however not enough staff were available and the ones that were working served the locals and ignored the residents or none regulars to the hotel. Another resident standing next to me at the bar waited like I did whilst the bar staff served 5 other customers in front of us and it would have been a sixth if I hadn't shouted out that we had been waiting for over 15 minutes and could they please serve us! When we did eventually get served the barman was very abrupt and his manner was rude! My daughter ordered her breakfast to be delivered to her room but it failed to arrive, on checking outside the door her order was still hanging on the door handle hence she went to work with no breakfast as she then didn't have time to go and eat in the breakfast room! The order was placed on the door handle well before the stated time of 4am!
The hotel was very nice indeed and had a good Christmas atmosphere. The location is great and on top of everything else it was a trip down memory lane. My wife and I had our wedding reception in the hotel 33 years ago.
The food unfortunately was a bit to much like school dinners for me.
A pre arrival telephone conversation asking if check in could be any earlier than the usual 2 pm the receptionist was very helpful and managed to get the room ready an hour earlier. A free carpark was very handy and free wifi very good. The lounge area very inviting with a roaring fire. Bar meals very good value and tasty.
First impressions of our twin room was small but adequate as we were only staying one night it did not matter but a longer stay and I would have asked for a room change. The radiator had no controls and early eve was okay but when we returned it was quite cold , not warm enough for such a cold night . The main light was far too low for a beamed ceiling could have been quite dangerous as very sharp edges on. The bath took 40 mins to empty not sure why but it g lugged away for ages. I realise the building is old but god you could not take a step without the whole floor creaking loudly. And the beds . I tend to suffer a little with backache but I could not sleep as felt every spring, I felt broken when I got up, everything hurt. And finally breakfast was good but the toasters ridiculous so slow. The restaurant was really cold so could not enjoy it. There was only three tables taken as it was early so not busy but even then when we asked for tomato sauce a waiter went off to get it and never returned , I would hate to be there when busy , not good enough for a so called BESPOKE hotel
The free parking was excellent. the staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. There was an interesting history of the hotel.
The George is full of old world charm andcomfort. It was lovely to return from a day flogging round the shops to a roaring fire and a friendly welcome. We ate in both nights - the food was delicious and excellent value.
next year we will book earlier and ask for a first floor room. the stairs to the second floor were somewhat vertiginous for old folk!
The room was lovely with many of the old features. Bed was very comfortable and on this occasion the room was heated right as normally it is too warm. Receptionist very friendly and booking in was easy.
The family had a meal and on this occasion the service was poor, which is a shame as normally it is very good.
Facinating, historic building.Friendly and good atmosphere. Lovely food. Good value for money.
Like the location
Bit tired and jaded could do with an update .
Lovely cosy feeling to the hotel
The friendliness of all the Staff during our three night stay. Nothing was too much trouble.
The street noise late at night and early morning
Bathroom was tiny
The hotle is in a good position for what I wanted, and it was easy to book
I have stayed before, and the service was not as good, for example at breakfast, when ordering the breakfast staff did not seem to listen to what I asked for,and they were not busy at the time, the heating was over hot in the bedroom and I was informed that nit couldnt be controlled,so I had to put the air condition on, The hotel could do better mainly in the dining area just by listening to the guests and making sure that the guests get what they ordered
Service at breakfast was very poor. Had to get up and go and find someone every time we wanted something and it wasn't even busy. Think the staff at breakfast need to be trained that they should actually be waiting on tables.
friendly and helpful sfaff
nothing to write home about
Lovely old building with many features. Good car park at rear for residents. Had a family get together evening meal which was excellent - both food and service. Breakfast had good choice too.
Wi-fi very optional ! OK in reception, but none in room. Quite a lot of early morning noise (buses etc) from High street as our room was on front of building, even with secondary double glazing. Bed comfy but on castors and because floor was old and uneven it rolled ! Bathroom could do with an update. All OK for a short stay.
Very Quaint building with lots of History, Well kept, Staff very Friendly and Helpful
I wish I could have stayed longer
Ambience and comfort
Loud music playing, very creaky floorboard!
Friendly helpful staff
Location for ease of access to the castle
Rooms too hot Ridiculous oversized light Shower didn't work Dated Poor quality room decor
We love the warmth and the cosy atmosphere of the lounge bar and the staff are always pleasant.
Was not impressed with the cracked sink in the bathroom(308) as it looked like it had been like it for a while.
