Staff very friendly Averagely priced Good food Excellent location
This hotel is in a listed building and some very early features had been retained and so full of character which is why I chose it! Also right in the centre and so an opportunity to look around this historic town. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. My room was cold on arrival, but I was quickly provided with a very effective heater and the next day the radiator was bled and the room was warm and cosy.
I was entirely happy during my stay and will book again if I am in the area.
The hotel had character and the staff were friendly. The food was good although the beans at breakfast were cold.
The room looked very tired. It must be a long time since this room had any TLC. the bathroom although looked cleanish was a disappointment. the shower took ages to warm through then nearly burns your skin off. the tiles around the bath had mold and mildew. the bath panel was badly scratched and the door had numerous missing prices of paint work. the bath room window didn't seal well so was noisy and cold. It is such a shame that the hotel has not spent time to update some of the well used and well loved furniture and decor. this hotel could be so lovely as it is filled with character.
The size of the room and the overall feel of the hotel.
On a busy high street. Noise from smokers outside the hotel, noise from boy racers.
Shower in first room was rediculous, very narrow with low beam I cut my head on.. Old building obviously but extremely creaky everywhere making it a bit noisy. Bar area a bit sad.
Central Location is perfect for town. Rooms are clean, staff are freindly and helpful.
This is an excellent hotel for business or pleasure. The rooms are extremely comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful and the restaurant is top quality. I will be returning here again. I would definitely recommend staying hete
Nothing not to like
Great location . Nice room . Lovely old features in the hotel .
Value, location, breakfast staff very helpful.
Bar abruptly closing for residents
The hotel is lovely with friendly staff and in a great location
The newly refurbished rooms are really good. Have everything you need, good wifi. Good food as well.
No issues at all.
The location and friendliness of staff
No complaints at all
Staff were awesome
Room could do with a little TLC
nice location.free car park.nice lounge area
got a good deal on price but really not worth the full rate that hotel charges.
Clean. Daytime reception helpful and nice.
Night reception took 15 minutes to answer the front door after midnight. Not enough tea sachets. House keeping started hoovering/cleaning at 830 when checkout is 11. Very noisey! Why not start later on a weekend! ?
Nice and close to the town centre for new year's partying; friendly, professional staff; free car park for residents; comfortable room and bed made for a good night's sleep; powerful hot shower
This was our second stay - last time we were in a room on the first floor, this time we were in the roof. On this occasion our room was of a lesser standard than the one we had last time, but at an equivalent price. Disappointing.
Wonderful historic building, comfort, good breakfast, large room with excellent bathroom, free parking in town centre, quality breakfast, helpful staff
Limited range of cask ales
comfy bed and lovely bath
Great location, bathroom was clean and new. The room was spacious and king bed for was comfortable. Breakfast was included and was a lovely start to each day.
The room and bed was on a slope so the we had to sleep at the opposite end of the bed. The bar staff were rude and because of the central location, a lot of street noise was heard through the night
receptionist very helpful assisting me with some stuff to keep my children occupied. bed very comfy breakfast lovely
not much for children to do. bar staff very slow almost going backwards. young waitress in breakfast lounge although very nice totally inexperienced re - people skills ie when I told her my daughter had nut allergy she just said 'aah oh' and the law of sod , my daughter had an allergic reaction to something at breakfast and her face started swelling, I had to go to the room to administer an epi pen.... I really enjoyed my stay and would have stayed again however this incident has put me off coming again...allergies should be taken very seriously in catering establishments and I feel it wasn't here.
The character and history of the hotel, my ancestors did manager this hotel back in the 1800's. It's over 500 years old and is haunted to this day. The bitter Adnams in the bar was excellent. Breakfast was acceptable.
Unfortunately although the hotel did have a certain Christmas ambience the amenities for hotel guests was very poor. The restaurant closed 6pm on Sunday and was empty on Monday and closed at 8pm. only bar snacks at Christmas!!!
Door keep bagging all night so we couldn't sleep at all
Good atmosphere and friendly staff, pleasant surroundings
No lift to second floor and lots of corridors to room
Loved pretty much everything , comfortable stay , warm and cosy with helpfull friendly staff .
it was a bit of a treck upto the bedroom , being a smoker it took ages to walk downstairs each time. .... no lifts but understandable because this is a old historic building .
