No Restaurant No Bar
nice clean room good location
Location, quick check in, just rang and got someone, quick to put towels in room when found none, great value for money at £30! (discount rate i think) Italian restaurant right downstairs..
smallish bed, but hey for £30 it did the business!
There was absolutely not one redeeming feature.
It is hard to know where to begin but after staying at more than 100 hotels over the last six years this was by far the worst, I find it incredibly that Booking.com can write that the rooms have recently been refurbished, the whole place is run down and dirty, we even found condoms in our room and I would not write that lightly, it does have a beautiful staircase that is ruined by garish flashing lights draped all the way up it and the walls are painted in the most horrible Purple, it really is hard to believe how shockingly bad the place is, the only furniture in our room was a bed, a wardrobe and two bedside tables, the whole lot would not even get a bid at auction, no bedside lights, no lampshades, rain coming in the window, I could go on, depressingly bad.
Private car park, always a big bonus Room decor very nice with a boutique gothic feel Bed very comfortable As soon as you leave the reception area, it turns into quite a charming , sometimes impressive hotel
Check in was odd, when walking in the reception area the whole place looks unloved and is deserted, you have to use the telephone on the reception desk to get someone down. Young guy was helpful and seemed efficient even if it did seem we'd got him out of bed! (Was 2.30pm in the afternoon) , would be interested to see what our American visitors think of all this, lol!
Our room had everything we required including a comfortable bed, TV with freeview, free WiFi, and an OK bathroom. The staff were quite attentive which was welcomed when we required something else. Location was good in the middle of the high street near the castle.
There isn't a lift so getting to the top floor (like we had to) might be a bit of a struggle. There wasn't anyone on reception and the room didn't come with a safe, which might be a luxury to some but it's a useful thing in any hotel room.
Good location, comfy beds, good parking. Was OK for our needs. OK for the money.
Felt like a renovation not completed. Only saw staff briefly on arrival. Had to telephone on arrival to reception, no one around. Don't expect any form of luxury, extremely basic accommodation. Electric extention cables everywhere. No lift, so no good for disabled persons.
The 4 poster room was good
The floor mat was full of black stains in the bathroom, plus the central heating was switched off DEC8TH and cmon people get that breakfast room sorted , i stayed there 8 years ago the breakfast room was great, plus once you payed money you never saw any staff have stayed there lots of times but it looks really run down but i love battle
central location,close parking,clean room,
no wifi in our room
- Another free upgrade to double - Spacious room - Lovely bed - Decent shower
- TV needs to be bigger for the size of the room
- free upgrade to double - nice sized room
- telly a bit small for the room
The hotel is right in the center of Battle so you can easily get to restaurants or stagger home from the pub if that's what you're looking for. The bed was so comfortable I wanted to buy it. Bit of a shame that there weren't any breakfast facilities included but we did know that before we booked. The room was lovely and clean with a nice blend of old architecture and smart fixtures and fittings. Perfect for the price.
No breakfast facilities included on Sundays!
The chap on the desk was very helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms good. A good, reasonably priced place to stay
Was a shame that the Breakfast room was being refurnished - but we were warned in advance, and charged less accordingly; the chap at reception did recommend places close by to get breakfast.
The hour of continuous Fire alarm at 4am
Comfortable four poster bed. The George is conveniently located for shops, Battle Abbey and local restaurants and pubs. When the TV did not work in the first room, Michael, the receptionist, upgraded us to a four poster bedroom.
The TV in the first room turned on but it suddenly started to change stations by itself. The so-called techie had no idea how to fix it so we moved rooms. The new room had a great bed but was on the high street side so was noisey. About midnight the drains started bubbling up on the shower stall then at 6am the fire alarm went off. They could not shut it down for an hour and a quarter when it shut down by itself. The following day the alarm company found nothing wrong with the system so maybe a Poltergeist?? It is a very old building. Kind of left us sleep walking the next day but they swore none of the above ever happened before. I wonder. They also have no breakfast facility but it was reasonably priced.
LOCATION WAS NICE .
WAS UPGRADED BUT NOT WORTH THE UPGRADE OR THE MONEY SHOULD BE MORE VALUE FOR MONEY. AND CLEANER NOT ONE TO CONTACT ON RECEPTION. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL
the bed was comfortable and the shower was great
Everything one could need in a cosy little attic room, with easy access to local attractions, and in an historic old building
We had the 4 poster bedroom, found it very comfortable and clean, would have no problem staying there again!
The hotel decor needs a little TLC
Location ideal for visiting Battle Abbey at the end of the High Street! Family friendly Italian restaurant as part of the hotel made a late arrival easy for us to get a pleasant meal. Family room was extremely spacious and bathroom modern.
Thought 'no meal option' advertised meant no evening meal so was a bit disappointed the Bed and Breakfast didn't offer breakfast. Thank goodness a cafe was open on the Sunday.
My colleagues reported back that the George was hospitable and friendly as well as clean and tidy. Breakfast was good
Says what it said on the tin
A little tired
Wallpaper hanging off wall
The exhaust fan/air conditioner located right below my room. The noise was horrendous and the staff's only help was to say it goes off at 22:00. Industrial ear plugs and turning up the TV very loud only just masked the sound. No double glazing or sound insulation. One pain of glass was broken and fixed with sticky tape which didn't help. Absolute night mare. No Breakfast either and for the price they were charging there should have been. Over priced.
