The George23 High Street, TN33 0EA Battle (Show map) Good, Score from 16 reviewsThe 300 year old George Hotel provides comfortable accommodations for visitors to the historic town of Battle. Visit the place where English history changed forever. Walk over the battlefield where William the Conqueror stood. The George Hotel was established in 1699, but there has been an inn on the site for over 600 years. Previously the town hall of Battle, the George building was once a military court during the Napoleonic wars. All rooms have private bathrooms, with TV and tea making facilities. Full English breakfast is served freshly cooked between 7am and 9am. Continental breakfast can also be served in your room by prior arrangement. The hotel is popular with wedding parties and tours, being within 5 minutes walk of picturesque Battle Abbey. Battle itself provides a great choice of restaurants and shops, while the seaside towns of Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea are less than 20 minutes drive away. Battle train station also provides an excellent train service to London, with direct access from Charing Cross and London Bridge train stations. Please note that the hotel has no elevator. The hotel is strictly non-smoking. Hotel Rooms: 22

The location in the heart of the town centre amongst the shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants is by far the best feature of the guest house. The ad-hoc reception and the side entrance make it feel more like a dormitory or hostel. I was pleasantly surprised with the comfort of the basic room, given the poor intorduction.

Nice room, with four poster bed and large Jacuzzi. Great location for local pubs and restaurants. Easy access for Battle Abbey and country walks. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast sausage was horrid.

It was above the restaurant that we had a meal in. There was no indication that one of the rooms had been cancelled. The English of the person on the desk was not very good. The lights in the room were not bright enough. The bed seemed very small and the duvet did not really cover two people in comfort. We did not stay for breakfast so cannot comment on that.

The room was clean, warm and comfortable. Although this is advertised as a hotel it is now a bed and breakfast establishment. The former hotel bar and restaurant (at the front of the building) have been sold off to an Italian restaurant chain. Access to the accommodation is now via a side alley only. There is no room service or other facilities - just breakfast.

Location. Being next to Thai restaurant - excellent meal No lift (I was on the 3rd floor); wifi didn't work - despite being advertised; breakfast was not very good (not much choice, weak coffee, no muesli or brown bread option). Also quite run down. But you get what you pay for...

Location, friendly staff, good welcome & good breakfast, In the process of being updated by new owners. Poor parking,no heating in our room & noisy floor boards. But the building is a few hundred years old and would expect a few creaks etc.
