Handy to battleground and abbey.
Room was comfortable, family room with shower. Excellent Italian restaurant attached to hotel
Stairs. We were a mature couple with a 4 year old on 2nd floor. Reception not staffed, had to ring internal number from reception. Didn't see a member of staff again, keys put in box on way out. Felt it was too pricey for room only
On arrival we were told that the 'kitchen' was not working! Although we were given a discount there was no provision made to find a venue for breakfast. We were left to our own devices! There appeared to be no attempt to repair the kitchen. Staff seemed non existent! Bedrooms were tidied each day, but that was all.
Large spacious room Large TV
Very creaky floors, but it is a very old hotel! No lifts.
Very good value for the price and was clean.
Problem in the kitchen, so no breakfast :-(
Location. There was only one member of staff but he was very helpful & cooked a lovely breakfast.
Don't think there's a lift which could be a problem for some.
location, character, good value
no air con/hot weather, attic room up 4 flights of stairs (know when booking), shower poor, (hold above your heads style)
location ,beautiful little place
Everyone was polite and the breakfast was excellent.
The stairs to the top was a little harsh with suitcase and parking was not sufficient for all guests.
Good location ..nice italian restaurant below hotel..
Abit tired looking..no staff around unless you ring reception..water pressure low..no fire exit warnings in room
Spacious room, in a very pleasant town. Battle Abbey and battlefield site worth visiting Thai restaurant adjacent to hotel is superb.
Too many parking spaces taken up by non residents. Shabby entrance to Hotel from car park.
The room was good. Great Location
House keeping was not good. Bed not made well. Towel not changed. Bathroom floor needed cleaning.
Location and staff were friendly!
Room 1 with its amazing jacuzzi tub, complimentary refrigerator and pretty furnishings. This room was also very clean, and the bathroom seemed recently completely redone -- luxury hotel quality in a hotel that is otherwise clean and cute but a bit tatty in places. The location is right on the high street, very central with great tea shops and shopping all around.
The check-in checkout process felt a little random --people were not always available at front desk and some of our questions took a while to be answered. If you are in a room that is situated on the staircases it can be loud at night.
American/Canadian receptionist who checked us in - lovely, welcoming, helpful Good wifi.
Very poor service from an indian(?) man who answered the phone when I called with a query. Room furnishings cheap and appeared to he the result of DIY . Window didn't lock, mirror cracked, bottom of bath stained - tatty. Would have taken very little effort to have made the rooms chic and avant guarde but looked like a 1960s b&b. 2'6" single beds - nice clean bed linen, nice tiles in bathroom, carpet good condition but the decor and furniture let the room down badly. Room very hot - no aircon. Shower only just warm enough. Not enough car parking spaces - had to use public car park - no security.
Beautiful old building, right in the centre of town. Very nice Italian Restaurant attached.
My room was right at the top of the stairs, and the cold tap in the basin would not turn on. Think it needed a new washer.
Room was clean, bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The staircase is truly a work of art and worth a visit in its own right.
The decor needs a refresh. It all looks a bit tired. Having said that, value for money was excellent so no complaints.
The staff were polite and helpful
Out dated decor and furniture
Room number 4 was very clean with comfortable four poster bed and good shower. Magnificent staircase for a 300 year old building!
The corridor between Reception and the Breakfast Room is in need of decoration as paper is peeling from the wall which lets down the Hotel's appearance.
no glasses in room and unable to get some!
The decor was rather dated and furnishings old and not matching. good for basic place to stop off. No luxury there. It is clean!
Staff were very helpful. I left my kindle in the bedroom and they arranged for it to be returned to me by secure mail!
Bed very comfortable
Stayed there 4 days /nights didn't get any clean towels , there was a t shirt left on floor from people in there before us , the people who ran it and it must have been a large family as they had there office next to our bedroom and the noise was very loud at all hrs of the night and doors banging , they were in and out till 3am all the nights we stayed
My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the attic rooms at the George and we were happily surprised at how spacey it was! The room was lovely and clean and the bed was comfortable! The bathroom was also quite big and clean as well.
The lack of parking was a problem because I had to park in a pay and display for a few hours before getting a space at the hotel
The car parking facility was great in the centre of town. The TV had good reception and I liked being able to make myself a drink especially after such a long journey.
The radiator in the bathroom was only hot at the bottom - it probably needed bleeding of air.
