Friendliness and helpfulness of staff was very good so was the food even though I felt a little on the pricey side. I found the hotel bedroom extremely cold and had to ask for a heater to be put in it. The radiators although warmish are situated under the sash windows and the heat goes out through them. I know it is winter but I even had to go out and buy a hot water bottle from Wilkinson's!

Our room was clean and comfortable unfortunately not very warm considering that was late November even though we were given a small fan heater.

I needed a single room for just the one night, and it did the job. Very friendly welcome on arrival. I had to leave very early in the morning, so bfast (continental) was left for me to help myself, which I appreciated. Whilst in need of refurbishment, the room was large enough and clean. There is free wifi [useful as mobile signal (on Three) is inexistant inside].

Location Shower in room didn't work properly - scalding hot water which could not be regulated. Nothing done about it when advised hotel of this. Broken window in room - very draughty and cold as stay was in November 2011. Breakfast took too long to make - only scrambled eggs ordered but waited ages for this to be served.

It was handy for a last minute few days away. Just simple lack of attention to detail - incorrectly fitted toilet seats (so you got cold legs when you sat down - Uuueeeh!!). Old hot water system so you waited ages for even a warm shower and then it was so hot you couldn't control it.

I found the staff very friendly and very very helpful. There was a good menu and they have a first class chef The bar was a very pleasant place to spend your evening after dinner. The hosts did everything to make sure you enjoyed your stay. I think The Imperial Hotel is extremely rundown and very shabby, inside and out.In the room we had(12) the shower was next to useless, the white seat on the pink toilet would not stay up on it's own(wrong one), the interior window frames were dirty and I mean dirty,in the bathroom you could scrape it off with your nail,in some places the paper was coming off the wall, there was a burn mark on the carpet in the shape of an iron(that was just unfortunate),The hair dryer never worked,I'm not sure it ever did?

The hotel is situated on the high street with ample car parking. It is in the town centre close to the shops. It is a very old building, once a Coaching Inn. Some of the fabric of the building is in need of repair, (Window frames, etc. the furniture has a 70’s feel about them although serviceable, I feel that the worn carpets and the bedroom furniture is in need of replacement. The bathroom in the room I used had fitted carpet on the floor. This consequently is constantly damp and the carpet around the toilet gave off an odour. The breakfasts were very good only to be let down by the lack of staff. However our stay was comfortable.

Castle Douglas on a Saturday evening in August was like a ghost town. There would appear to be no pubs although the hotel itself had a friendly enough bar but the hotel stops serving meals at 8 pm - on a saturday! There were very few places to eat. The breakfast the next morning was good and the hotel comfortable but it is fading and needs a revamp.

The staff were willing and the food was reasonable. The hotel is very faded and run-down. It was not especially clean and it looked and felt very behind-the-times.
