Standing in 3.3 acres of landscape gardens just 1 mile from the historic Cathedral City of Hereford. the hotel provides a beautiful and peaceful haven for rest, relaxation and business.
Score from 339 reviews Good
This 16th-century inn is in the beautiful Wye Valley, in the cider orchards between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye. It has free on-site parking, free Wi-Fi, a traditional bar and a modern restaurant.

The rooms were clean
The gentleman on reception was very rude
Not able to access the hotel via Widemarsh St in the day. Difficult to contact reception to confirm booking, tried four times.
The perfect location and the grace and comfort which one increasingly, and sadly, associates with a bygone era
relaxed friendly welcome and atmosphere Comfortable room plenty of useful extras very enjoyable stay
slight worn /torn carpet in places in bedroom and worn ripped arms on sofa
Location was perfect, check in and check out was hassle free clean good sized room with en suite.
Bed was very soft.
Friendly efficient staff, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast, convenient free secure parking
Everything been nice and perfect
The bed was so comfy
Shower was blistering hot or freezing cold couldn't get it to right temperature
Staff at reception were helpful...changed my room when it was too noisy. Free wifi, good location.
Noise of the doors slaming most of the night! I was so tired by the end of the week due to lack of sleep. Breakfast cost was too high..could not just have toast unless you paid the full amount of £6something.
I liked there is a free parking for the guests. It was warm and the bathroom was clean. The bed was very comfortable. The receptionists was nice and polite. Perfect location in the centre of the city.
The room was basic with old furniture. The floor in the room was like an old house and it was making noice at some places when you walk over. The TV was the smallest possible. The internet was not free. Our room was next to the lift and we was able to hear everybody who decided to use it. This room wasn't worthing the price we paid.
location, character of hotel, comfort, staff, breakfast, value for money.
The location is excellent. We were right next to the shops and near the indoor shopping centre. Close by to the theatre which was the main reason we were there for. The staff were truly great, and if you needed anything then your request was dealt with right away.
The food was horrendous in the evening. It had clearly been left under the "hot" lamps for most of the day and was just awful, I had to take my 1 year old elsewhere in the freezing cold as I just couldn't give him that food. The room was ok, but the carpet was torn and instead of replacing it they had nailed it down which was sharp if your feet caught it and they are very lucky my one year old didn't harm himself by this hazard. The beds feel soft at first but the mornings prove that they are extremely uncomfortable. The housekeeping nearly lost my sons favourite toy as instead of moving it off the bed to re make it the toy was tucked down by the wall!
Cost, parking, location
A little tired, a warren of corridors to find rooms
Location good and friendly staff.
Room clean and tidy but our stay was spoilt by the fact that the room smelt very strongly of paint as it had recently been decorated and this made breathing for myself and grandson difficult as we are both asthmatic.
Location is excellent. Parking is available for guests. Bedding clean. Staff friendly.
Decor is now tired. Needs some care & attention. Room floorboards creak like crazy. No heating in bathroom and heated towel rail not working. Shower difficult to adjust. Mattress was very thin. No eggs for breakfast! Just scrambled available which suggests powdered egg! Breakfast not worth it. Do as someone else suggests and go around the corner.
The welcome and friendliness of staff
The shower was pretty poor - very low pressure
Beds where so comfortable
Style of room furnishings
Not really v bad but basin drain nearly blocked
Staff friendliness and cooperation.
The ambience at this hotel was very special. I felt like I was in an Agatha Christie novel. It felt classic, without being opulent with sweeping staircases, nooks and crannies and huge oversized mirrors half way down the stair case. It was a breath of fresh air from the clinical-atmosphere of some other hotels.
No water pressure couldn't have a shower , whole building needs an overhaul if they want to continue to charge good money
Room reasonably clean and bed was very comfortable.
Staff not very visible; some staff were scruffily dressed; tired looking paintwork and decoration throughout; doors being slammed late in the night (that's more to do with the residents though).
Lovel traditional hotel, down in the lobby and dining areas very nice traditional decor.
Plumbing needs updating. Windows are draftie.
It was right in the centre of the city. Staff extremely friendly . Room was great size and lovely and warm
But of a problem with the bath, had to fill with shower as tap wouldn't work which took some time . No room service
