This 16th-century inn is in the beautiful Wye Valley, in the cider orchards between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye. It has free on-site parking, free Wi-Fi, a traditional bar and a modern restaurant.

Score from 118 reviews Very good
Excellent location. Extremely friendly staff. Lovely building and well appointed rooms. Good value for money
The shower was old and tricky and the water was brown when first being used, but we got used to that in the end. Everything else was great for the price.
Location, friendly staff, car parking, value for money
Convenience and history
Comfy beds Good size room Friendly and helpful staff
Breakfast ok but not great
The Staff were very helpful
It was supposedly haunted!
This hotel is right in the centre of Hereford and has its own free car park.On our stay we were warm and comfortable, with plenty of space in both bedroom and bathroom.
The appearance of the hotel throughout is fairly dismal and run down. The service at breakfast was - to be kind - erratic and we did not feel tempted to try the hotel dinner which offered both English and Indian dishes. .
Parking availability - very little, so difficult to park unless you book in very early. Other car parks locally are very expensive. I think it would be better for guests to be able to book a space then at least they can be aware beforehand that they may have to make alternative arrangements.
Location was excellent. Right in the middle of the town centre. Road out front was quiet
Hotel needs total re-decorating and rooms up grading.BUT bedroom was very clean and tidy.
Large old building. Clean and comfortable and right in town with parking.
Reception area very tired looking. Bit off putting but room and restaurant where fine.
Beautiful, spacious lounge to relax in and have a drink from the bar. Car park was a great asset.
Could not get the shower to work so ended up having to have a bath.
Staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel in general and my room were very clean.
The bed was remarkably uncomfortable -- elderly mattress?
Staff were lovely.
Shower didn't work very good. Water wasn't hot and the room was freezing, we asked for extra heater. Bit upset the fact 110 and it was for me and the husband to get away. We picked this having people saying this was a top hotel.
the large dining room
The location was brilliant and it was a beautiful building.
Room was very tired and dirty, altho beds were clean, they looked like a 5yr old had made them. The carpet was worn into holes, so was the sofa, it looked like if wed sat on it, we would have gone straight through. Needs to go to tip. Radiator in bathroom didn't work so room was very cold. Lampshades were filthy and covered in cobwebs.
Close proximity to Cathedral and quaint shopping area.
What you would rightly expect of a period City hotel of this standing. I have stayed at the hotel many times over a lot of years (40+) and always enjoyed my stay albeit for only one night each time.
The Hot water supply to room 233 was pathetic with the flow not much greater than a trickle.
It may be dated, but it's good value for money. Central location. Good breakfast.
The location was very nice. The staff were excellent and opened the bar for late night drinks when we wanted a few more.
The hotel was a bit dated, but had charm to it still.
We were very relaxed and comfortable at the hotel, as was our dog. The location was ideal for us. We would definitely stay at the Green Dragon again.
Atmosphere--an aging hotel with some classic features. Location very good for us: near cathedral and bus stop, with a fine Thai restaurant two doors away.
A trifle threadbare and in need of refurb.
The manner in which we were treated at reception
Lovely old building which could do with a bit of TLC .Right in the hart of Hereford rooms are clean and most of the staff were very friendly except for the first day ( May be he was having a bad day)
The room was very hot and the radiator would not turn off so made sleeping difficult . this was sorted out but it would have been good if a fan was in the room . Also I have never heard a floor that made such a noise as you walked over .with a small amount of maintenance this could be put right
size or room
hard mattress and squeaky floor in room. poor breakfast
This is an hotel of great character and old fashioned charm.
What a shame that such a grand old lady is becoming more like a bag lady. The staff do their best to maintain standards but my bathroom verged on the unacceptable. Long over due a complete, but tasteful, refurbishment.
Price, location,breakfast.Quiet room.
Television faulty, mattress knackered, shower pressure weak. But that was all reflected in the price. Generally you get what pay for
