This is a superb hotel. The staff are excellent - friendly and helpful at all times. The rooms are large and comfortable. It is located in a quiet village but is only a short distance from the a303 which provides easy access to local towns and tourist attractions.

Rooms very spacious and good bathrooms. Tea/coffe, ironing board, trouser press etc in all rooms is good. Beautiful area, extreemly tidy around the grounds of the hotel. Very well run. Freindly staff. Excellent breakfast, huge menu. Evening meal menu good too. Lots of different choices to suit all. Shower too hot and unable to reset to a satisfactory temp. Although Recomended Michellin star, it would not get one. Food was good, but having eaten in a large group for 3 nights we sampled lots of dishes, some good some not so good. T bone steak too tough to cut even with a steak knife and our comments were passed on to staff but no feed back from kitchen, even though the entire steak still left uneaten, no alteration of bill, £17.50 for a steak you cant eat, plus £2.25 for chips, plus your veg- makes it rather expensive.-i would want my meat supplier to know about this, they obvious were not that interested, that is a shame.

All hotel facilites provided in one set up I.E. good restaurant, good accommodation and ample parking. Very relaxed yet professionally run. Good sized accommodation, but see problems with it being so hot in the room though. We had a lovely room which was upstairs which we asked for. However it needs to be pointed out that this is quite a walk from the reception area and needs to be noted if you have trouble walking - we didn'T. The room as it is upstairs was incredibly hot, would not want to stay there during hot weather - think it must have a flat roof as the window to the large room is not large and thus does not let too much air in. A suggestion would be to possibly enable both sets of windows to be allowed to open rather than just the one in the bedroom area.

Beautiful accomodation, Bathroom lovely and luxurious. There is a lovely patio outside your room where you can sit and have a drink. Staff very helpful. Food delicious. Wonderful stay. Would happily stay there again. Shower can be a little troublesome, but just have to wait a few seconds for temperature to adjust. The weather was extremely hot and humid when we stayed and the room was consequently very hot. However, the hotel does provide vertical fans for you to use. These are stored in the wardrobe when not in use.

We liked everything about the hotel. Our second stay here and we would stay again. We did not eat in the restaurant for evening meals so cannot comment here, but breakfasts were fine. Ventilation in the rooms on hot nights was a bit of a problem and a thinner duvet would have helped. It woiuldn't prevent us from staying here again, but it is something toi be aware of in hot weather.

Only the location. The impression given is that you are staying in an old 'character' building (from the photos) - the reality is you are in a new-ish but tired, annex. The rooms were unbelievably hot with no ventilation at all apart from the sliding patio door. We were over-charged on our bill - didn't bother complaining.

Our room was clean and quiet during our stay and the bedding was clean and crisp. The level of service was lower than expected of a hotel advertising its self as a three star hotel with a five star attitude. The tag line of luxury room was a little misleading as it felt no better than a Premier Inn and it took three room moves to eventually get a room with all the facilities in good working order. The restaurant was ambient however the space between tables was exceptionally small and impossible to have a private conversation espicially when the restuarant was busy. Our order of Mediteranian Vegatable Wellington was a piece of pastry filled with carrots, potato and tomato did not meet the expectation of 'mediteranian' and the Fish cakes were more of a potato rosti with onions as lacked any fish flavour!

Very good, 8.4
Score from 103 reviews
“The setting in charming Montacute was exactly what we were looking for. The inn has a sense of history and at the same time concern for contemporary traveler's needs. Our dinner was excellent and the traditional English Breakfast was updated just enough. I also enjoyed exploring the churchyard next door and hiking St Michael's Hill.” Nancy, Freeland |
