Brian,
Ely
Sitting in the shadows of Ely Cathedral, Lamb Hotel dates back to the 15th century and retains its atmosphere as a thriving coaching inn. The Lamb boasts 31 comfortable rooms with private bathrooms. Meals and drinks are served all day in the bar and restaurant. Traditional beers, wines, spirits and teas and coffees are available. The Lamb Hotel's history dates back to the time of King Richard II. Ely has old streets and medieval gateways, timbered houses and parkland stretching down to the Great Ouse River. Cambridge is nearby, and Newmarket, famous for horse racing, is 12 miles away. Hotel Rooms: 31, Hotel Chain: Old English Inns.

We were more than pleasantly surprised with the freshness of the hotel. We stayed in room 8 which was spacious with an excellent bed. The bathroom is tiny by any standards and toilet seat was broken but the towels fresh and fluffy. Location in centre of Ely contributes much to ambience, staff throughout helpfull and friendly, wonderfully sociable bar/restaurant - we recommend The Lamb highly!!

Firstly the location is very good. It is near to the cathedral, museums and Cromwell's house. If you want to go to Cambridge, Newmarket , Peterborough or any of the neighbouring towns there is a bus stop just behind the hotel and the railway station is about 15 minute walk downhill.(take a taxi up from the station unless you are very fit). There is a taxi stand there as well.Staff were helpful and pleasant at all times.Had a very nice stay at the Lamb Hotel.Love the old architecture and quaintness of the city.

Location and good quality food. Refuse bin in en-suite had not been emptied (orange peel and shower gel from previous guest) and toilet was full of someones hair which obviously meant it had not been cleaned! Otherwise, the room was clean and tidy. Noise from outside main road was still heard even though secondary glazing was fitted, not a good nights sleep - try to get a room away from the main road side.

Location - for shops and Cathedral. The receptionist was very helpful, and (the same young woman) was cheerful and helpful at breakfast on Sunday morning The bathroom was very narrow. You could have stolen a foot or two from the bedroom to make the bathroom much more comfortable.

As I went to Ely to attend a wedding in the cathedral and the Lamb is almost next door it was a natural choice. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. There is a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere and I find small hotels like the Lamb much more fun to stay at rather than one of the hotels or motels in large, impersonal chains. Nothing to dislike really except the lack of a lift which can be a problem. The price charged at £75 per night for a single room is a little on the steep side.

Bed very comfortable, bathroom acceptable and shower excellent. Room reasonable size and decor. We arrived at 4pm on a cold, wet winters day. Car park good. Reception efficient, room ice cold ( radiators off), no master light switch so room was dark and one had to go round the 4 bedside/wall lights to switch them on individually. Breakfast acceptable if you wanted a full breakfast, but just a slice of toast - difficult to arrange. All in all - a disappointing stay - that was over-priced for the room/service.

The staff were very good. Bedroom very cold and depressing. Bathroom was the worst one I have ever stayed in. Tiles were dirty I could not fancy a shower the hole of the room felt as though it needed to be pulled down. We stayed in the Castle & Ball part of you group which was excellent. I would never stay at the Lamb again. We were so cold in our room we could not sleep. We stay over Oct & Nov in about 24 hotels and this was the worst I have ever stayed in and I hope we never stay in one like this again. Dreadful. I feel we should have had a refund

It was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and nothing was a bother.I Was attending events in the cathedral so it was ideally situated with being only a few hundred yards from the entrance .There was a good choice of food all day which meant I could eat there .
