The friendly hotel is halfway between London and Scotland, and 9 miles south of Scotch Corner in an area that is easily accessible and ideal for touring Yorkshire. Refurbished in Spring 2005, the lodge is perfectly situated for a North/South stopover, or to discover the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors.

The Old Market Square restaurant and cafe bar enjoy an award-winning reputation, renowned for their traditional English cuisine complimented by friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Hambleton Suite is the perfect venue for a meeting or special event, be it a luncheon, dinner, training seminar or wedding reception. Situated on the ground floor overlooking the gardens, the suite with private lounge area and bar is able to accommodate up to 100 guests or delegates. The Courtyard Suite is a larger meeting and training facility for up to 150 delegates.

Full English breakfast is served in the main restaurant from 07:00. There is full range of cereal, toast, local cheeses, fruit, yogurt and a full cooked 'Yorkshire' breakfast.

Room information

The special executive rooms are the most recent bedrooms added to The Lodge and have flat-screen televisions and air conditioning. For the extra little price difference between a standard and special executive room, the hotel suggests that you book a special executive room when available.

Area information

Bedale and the surrounding area is ideal for walking, fishing, riding, touring by car and shopping. Country houses and castles abound in this beautiful landscape that was painted by Turner and written about in the Herriot novels. The Heartbeat television series was filmed near here.

Croft Motor Racing Circuit (15 km) and the historic towns and cities of York, Ripon, Richmond and Harrogate are all within easy reach. Lightwater Valley theme park (10 km) and shopping centre are only a 15 minute drive away. Set within 175 acres of country park, here there is fun for all the family; enjoy white-knuckle roller-coasters, or, for the less adventurous, there is a steam train, boating lake and a children's visitor farm.

The Lodge has a tourist information centre located in the shop. The Wensleydale Railway passes through some of the most beautiful scenery in the Yorkshire Dales, running for 17 miles from Leeming Bar to Redmire on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Trains run throughout the year (daily during the summer, at weekends and during school holiday periods during the rest of the year).
