Malcolm,
Nottingham
This refurbished hotel with free Wi-Fi was built in the late 18th century. It is located on the edge of the medieval market town of Hitchin. The charming family-run hotel has modern comforts, a cozy bar overlooking the grounds and a residents' TV lounge. Walk along the Hitchin’s old cobbled streets to explore the fine Tudor and Georgian buildings as well as the range of stores, restaurants, cafes, pub and theaters. Hotel Rooms: 20

Staff were friendly and helpful Flat screen TV Location to town centre Whilst there is no restaurant, the hotel has negotiated discount in more than 6 restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance (20% of food at Cafe Rouge, for instance) Car park entry is interesting, probably a nightmare in the ice or snow Some rooms in an annexe which means a walk out in the cold and it is quite noisy when people come in or go out

Location, walking distance into Hitchin. Young receptionist / waitress friendly. Good internet reception. Owner / manager surly and abrupt. Rooms tiny and very hot, not as pictures and certainly not executive. Breakfast served only until 9am. Breakfast cereals fine - cooked smelled greasy and mushrooms were tinned, sliced and looked and tasted horrid. Would be good as a budget hotel but not at prices charged. General feeling of 1970's.

Friendly staff and great location. The shower as you had to hold it up yourself, which is really difficult if you have long hair and have to wash it.

I felt that the welcome I received on my arrival at The Lord Lister, was as good as any I have ever received. It has a warm, friendly family atmosphere that is reflected by its staff. The breakfasts came hot, and the toast warm. Something that most hotels should always remember, is toast should always be warm, so the butter melts. The location is handy for everything, and its quiet. The only thing I would say is, my room was compact.and as a result felt very, very hot.( Due I should add, to the mild weather we are having , and not the hotel) thankfully there is a fan that I put on at night. It would be an idea to have a bit of ventilation in the room like an air brick or something, to allow air flow.

The hotel could do with a makeover. The rooms are very dated and generally had an unclean feel. The tv in my room did not work. Luckily I was out for the evening with business colleagues so I didn't have to spend very long in the room.

It's a very pretty little hotel and the staff are so friendly and make you feel welcome. The rooms needed a fair bit of modernising for £80 a night, there was no quilt, the hair dryer was similar to a hand dryer, just not as powerful. It's a lovely hotel just not worth £80 a night

A comfortable, independent hotel, run by welcoming and friendly staff, with an excellent family room and off-street parking. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the historic centre of Hitchin and excellent restaurants.

The Manager team and staff were congenial and helpful. The Hotle obviously very old, quaint and "historical". The room advertised as an executive double room was unexpectedly small and barely adequately furnished. No evening meal was availabel perhaps that was advisable based on the cooked breakfast needing a little help.
