This modern hotel and recreational club, located to the south of Colchester, is the premier hotel in north Essex. The hotel features 110 bedrooms which have been carefully designed with your personal comfort in mind. The beautiful scenes of Constable country, including Flatford Mill and Dedham, are a short distance and numerous other attractions include Colchester Castle, art galleries, stately homes, gardens and a number of English vineyards open to the public. The elegant lounge and cocktail bar provides the perfect meeting place and somewhere to relax before dining in the splendid Roman Room Restaurant, which offers a selection of international cuisine, complemented by carefully selected wines from around the world and served by friendly and professional staff. The Lifestyle Health & Leisure Club is complimentary to residents during their stay and facilities include a 50-foot indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms, fully air-conditioned gym and 2 outdoor tennis courts. The hotel is beautiful, the room was clean, warm and inviting. Although the hotel was lovely when I called they didn't even have my booking, yet I had received a email confirming my booking. In the end I was able to get a room however the lady on the phone wasn't overly polite or customer service orientated. I feel that when working in a hotel you should always have a kind and warm approach when speaking, especially with guests and especially when you've lost the reservation.

Everything, the hotel was very poor food was terrible and the staff were rude and unprofessional , we didn't even stay the night we checked out after 4 hours of being there! They should be closed down with the food they serve! It made me and my partner I'll! We have taken pictures of the food and shall be going for a full refund if not more! The rooms are dated and not so luxury like they are stated! I would give this hotel a 1 star don't see how it's classed as a 4 star. The worst stay of our lives!

When room provided was not acceptable we were moved to a much nicer room. When we arrived to check in they did not have our booking, this is the second time this has happened. Even when we checked out they still could not find any original booking even tho we had written confirmation from booking.com

I really enjoyed everything about the hotel the staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was absolutly wonderful. The room was cosy and very well presented. I really enjoyed my stay and I would recommened it to anyone. The only thing I would say is that the food was over priced and I didn't see any children's food on the menu in the room I stayed in.

I booked a Twin and a Double Room, I requested the twin room be on the ground floor due to my mother being disabled, when checking in we found that both the rooms were on the 1st floor, the hotel having no lift my mother would not be able to get to her room, while we were discovering this a member of staff heard the conversation and got a ground floor room for her. At breakfast there was scrambled egg but no fried eggds, which suited me but my husband does enjoy his fried egg

Good location.....good quality that you expect from Best Western No restaurant facility because they had Christmas parties booked had to have room service with much restricted menu and an additional tray charge. Not what one expects from a hotel of this quality.

Pretty ok. The hotel is average I do not think it deserves a 4 star rating more a low 3 star is more deserving. Requested a cot to be in our room, not there when we arrived with a tired baby. Room service was expensive, we ordered at 11.04 pm and had to order off the limited menu as the main one finished at 11 pm on top pf this the first choice sandwiche was not available Found it expensive at £11.90 for two sandwiches with a £3.00 charge to deliver to the room. It took 43 minutes to be delivered! Room decor could do with an updating wallpaper peeling off.

It was quiet and comfortable. The food at our evening meal was very good and well presented. Drinks bought at the bar were very expensive: £8 for a pint of shandy and a glass of wine. Breakfast was disappointing, even for a continential one.
