Located in Gloucester’s city centre, the New County Hotel offers free Wi-Fi, a contemporary bar and restaurant and offers discounted car park vouchers.
Score from 220 reviews Good
Friendly and helpful staff, food good, centrally located, room comfortable and clean. Loads of character, this building is 600 plus years old, will stay again.
Unfortunately the area has been pedestrianised, but the subsidised car is only a 5 minute walk away.
The inn was beautiful, very interesting and right in the centre of the city. We both loved the city, but although we would visit Gloucester again, we both think that the New Inn isn't geared at people of our age, but younger people. This is a great shame! SORRY it wasn't RELAXIN for us.
The room was much too hot!! although there was no heating on at all in the room neither myself nor my husband could get to sleep because of the heat... The window was open throughout our stay to create a draught, but this didn't work at all. Furthermore, the view from our window was a high brick wall! No circulation of air in the room at all. Also the noise of the entertainment was awful on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights until very late.
Building, room, location and a good bar.
No on site parking and a Disco was held on Saturday night which was very loud and stopped us from sleeping.
i liked the character of the place
the fact that if you arrived after 20.45 you could not get any food. arrived 21.20 all they could offer was crisps in the bar.
The age of the building on the outside looks good.
The staff were mostly off hand except for the young girl that served dinner. Beds had other peoples hairs, no mattress protectors and none on pillows. TV sound very poor large white light in middle of TV remained on all night. Worst was SatNav and google maps couldn't find. No one said no parking a good 10 minutes walk in rain. Overall a never repeat. Shame because a beautiful Hertiage building. Management company needs to be taken to task as will quickly slip into decline.Cash only in bar food in restaurant all microwaved. Toilet wouldn't stop running . Breakfast give it a miss. Walk to hotel from parking not best area of town. So disappointed only hotel in 2 weeks from thus site not enjoyed.
Good location Nice room with a big bathroom Breakfast was OK
Mould in the bathroom Wi-fi worked pretty badly
Location, staff, breakfast was fab and they even provided me with aspirins!!!!
Nothing really. Knew what to expect and it exceeded expectations.
It is a lovely place very old and creaky, room 118 the lady jane suit was very nice but OMG was it hot, we did ask for the radiators to be turned down but the were old and needed replacing, so windows open so rather noisey but still a great weekend
The hot room
kareoke nights are dreadful! lol! spoils the atmosphere loads and is tacky. you have a lovely medieval building and yet you spoil it by making it look like a second rate old fashioned dive. it needs a bit more tlc put into it and style!!
My fourth visit......lovely room once again, pleasant, helpful staff, great breakfast.
The heating was operating and the room was warm but this was all that was good about it.
The carpet flooring was so dirty it was disgusting to step on it. The matress was all bumps. The TV set and the hair dryer were out of order and there was no phone in the room to call reception and ask for help. The reception desk is located in the restaurant on the ground floor and to reach it one needs to get fully dressed, walk outside, cross the yard and enter the restaurant. I had a bit of luck with the hair dryer: when in the morning I was standing with my hair wet and thinking desperately what to do I heard the housekeeper talking loudly just outside my door. I openned the door and asked her for a working hair dryer and it was delivered promptly. In addition the walls in the room were as this as paper and the floors squeaking, I heard every step of step and sound from the neighbouring room as well as from above and from below. My sleep was limited to just a few hours because of the noise as my neighbours watched TV until after midnight and 6 am the kitchen below apparently began operating.
Beautiful hotel, comfortable rooms, friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Our room was quiet despite the live music. Staff sorted out problem in room very quickly.
Residents not being able to sit in the reception area in the evening. This could very easily be made a residents only bar in the evening. The music was unbelievably loud in the public bar - we would have liked somewhere quiet to sit with our friend.
Difficult to find, rude staff, vagrants fighting at the front door, parking facility across town and in a not-so-very-nice location. Quite a hike with luggage, or without. Would not recommend.
The building itself - old, historic and very charming. With a nice courtyard, pub, cafe and a restaurant. Brilliant location - close to everywhere. Clean bathroom, towels and crisp-clean duvet plus very comfy bed!
The rooms' interior a bit dated, but hey, what do you expect from a 15th century Inn? It has to be old, that's it's charm.
Friendly atmosphere. Clean and tidy. Good sized room and en-suite. Central location and good quality bars and restaurants on site.
No on site parking or access to drop bags off. Wi Fi doesn't work in bedrooms.
Friendly, helpful staff. Clean, spacious, comfortable room. Different atmosphere to a "chain" hotel.
Breakfast..Lumpy bed..Broken hair dryer..loads of fluff in radiator..Stains on ceiling..In dire need of refurb.. Although the bed was new it was however a very cheap one.
hotel and staff and the cathedral
Gloucester itself was a let down, not a place I would visit twice. Did not feel safe enough to go out at night, and no restuarants around so had to eat at the hotel.
City centre location, good atmosphere, enjoyed hearty breakfast, especially on Monday.
Car parking arrangements & drop off zone details could have been better. Not offered discount pass for first night's parking so cost more than expected. Toasting bread in queue not good as food going cold and other people pushing in.
Stayed in the Oak Suite with a four poster. Lots of up and down floors and heavy oak beams. Great atmosphere. Good pub food, dinner and breakfast. Reasonable prices. Right in the centre of Gloucester.
The wifi connected fine. Lots of coverage with 6 different routers. But not one of them would connect to the internet. Parking is pay and display. £12 = 24 hours, and a good 5-10 minute walk.
the free upgrade to a better room the amazing breakfast
The location in the center of town. Good value for money. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. Would stay here again!!
Close to town Nice courtyard
Breakfast ends at 9:30am on a weekend Shower was cold Room was noisy overnight Hotel was 'tired'
nice building, staffs were friendly
It's not cleaned the shower room. The shampoo which ex-guest used left there, also the hair. Flies were in the room.(something which looked like packed fish was on the dub-avoid-net out of the window)
A great hotel, full of character and just what you'd expect from a building so old. I loved the fact that my room was slightly downhill!!! A superb place, very central and great value for money.
