Score from 327 reviews Very good
Location close to shops was excellent. Public areas looked nice A very comfy bed and we didn't get woken up by any noisy neighbouring rooms. Powerfull shower was excellent.
Our room was poorly finished in many areas window couldn't lock no ends on the curtain pole and many repairs in the bathroom not finished off very well our room needed updating - room 31
Stunning building and décor. Excellent helpful and friendly staff.
Disappointed with the temperature of the breakfast which was a shame as the products were of good quality.
stayed here for a wedding main areas of the hotel are nice but it is showing signs of wear and tear. Our room downstairs very small, needs updating but does the job, hence time for a spruce up
Price vs quality of rooms
Shower was great, staff very friendly.
Shabby decor, slightly tired facilities.
Location, Bed, Staff.
Condition of executive room, Old and need upgrading on safety and condition. Read my other two reports. Bar and car park too small for guests and function people.
Service from staff outstanding
Beds and rooms needed bringing into 21st century and not a reflection on staff
Staff and location
Noise from the room next door during the night
Good location near town centre with shops around, late check out when asked, helped us when we wanted to stay another night let us stay in same room
Reception staff were a bit stuck Up tried to have a laugh and she just made you feel like an idiot, quite uncomfortable
I love this hotel from the minute you pull up in the car park the building is steeped in history. What really makes this place for me is the attentive staff! They are all so lovely (even at 8am in Christmas morning). They go out of their way to help you with anything. Inside the hotel has luxury furnishing and fittings. Breakfast is great in the morning. There is not a bad word to say about this hotel.
It's not a dislike it's more of a "would like". It would be great if the hotel could assign one or two rooms on the ground floor at special times of the year such as christmas so that you can bring your dog with you.
Loved complementary fruit basket
Breakfast supplies running low
We could not fault the hotel in any way on arrival receptionist could not be more helpful in allocating a suitable room for us. The whole experience was five star and is our hotel of choice when we are staying in the north east.
Hard to find a parking space when we returned at night but there were xmas parties going on in the restaurant.
Staff very good. Room was well presented, once cleaned. Good family room for us
Room was not ready when we arrived. Hot dishes at breakfast not ready at advertised time
Gorgeous decor in the room.
Shower didn't work, and toilet smelt funny.
Staff couldn't do enough, they were friendly and accommodating. Lovely bedroom, albeit small. Nice breakfast. Definitely would book again.
good breakfast, excellent central location in town, good parking, nice room
Did Not Stay checked into another hotel
Being asked to park in the Town Centre when I had called the day before to book a disabled parking spot. The hotel does not have designated disabled parking bays. Not best pleased after driving 421 miles to get to the hotel
excellent food helpful and friendly staff rooms clean, warm and spacious
The bed, the helpful staff, the ambience
Bar prices expensive. Choices at breakfast extra cost.
Pleasant staff. Clean room & bathroom. Instant hot water. Good Wi-Fi. Located on edge of town centre. Good breakfast choice.
Tired room décor. Awkward car park layout, may not be space available if hotel is hosting a function.
staff were great, great value room, high standards
the room was overly warm.
Comlimentary mince pies/fruit etc in room Flexible attitude to diet preferences at dinner etc Staff all helpful/apparently happy Good size room Best accomodation for some time
Uncovered wooden floors ground floor - footsteps audible late at night/early morning - first floor bedroom Pitiable paper napkin at dinner ! Slight lack of attention between courses Shower leaking water on to floor
Most of the hotel the staff were very helpful and kind. Breakfast was great hotel good location great place we stay here every time we visit the UK.
We booked an upgraded room and early book in through booking.com only to find no upgrade just a basic room and no early boom in wasn't a happy man but wasn't the receptionist's fault but still not happy.
Welcome on arrival. Christmas decoration and ambience very good. People late for breakfast are served at table. Please adopt for all guests.
Only one comfortable chair in upgrade room. Sash window cords broken so couldn't open. 'Hot buffet breakfast' wasn't at 8.45. Tortuous route from buffet to seating.
Good location, clean and comfortable room. Staff very friendly and helpfull
The location of the hotel is good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The bed was very uncomfortable as were the pillows. The dining room was initially very cold, although when asked the staff turned up the heating. Two of my guests sat with their coats on during supper.
