The hotel is situated in a lovely part of old Holmfirth, the views looking out from the front of the hotel of the old stone built buildings with the large dominating church must have been an inspiration to many an artist over the years. We parked the car without any problem but noticed the small car park soon filled up. We found all the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. The dining room and bar area's were very comfortable. There was a good selection of well kept hand pulled ales but expensive, 50p per pint less would have been more realistic. The bedroom although small was nice, clean and comfortable its feature was a balcony which due to the good weather and view made our stay most enjoyable. The breakfast was good but we realised afterwards we had missed out on a course with choices including porridge, kippers and omelettes. Would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to others. There was some noise late at night from a nearby pub but it didnt really disturb us.

I use it regularly mainly for the location and it's quaintness. The staff are always very attentive and polite but also it's nice to go to a hotel that still has British staff.

Informal atmosphere. Staff very friendly and helpful. Centrally located next to concert venue. Noisy disco to midnight - despite requesting a quiet room the lampshade was rattling with the noise. In fairness we were warned when we checked in. Bedroom very hot despite turning off radiator and opening window. Bedroom window near to kitchen vent - vent stack should be taller to take smells away.

The location and the room, the restaurant and the the late bar. There is a venue that has live bands on next to the hotel and after the event people gather at the rear at the hotel. The walls are very thin and these people were very noisy, shouting and drinking.

The breakfast was a reasonable size The rooms were tatty and in a poor state of repair. I even had to bleed the radiators myself! The free wifi that is advertised as being full hotel coverage, was at best patchy, other times, unusable. It is a 2 star but still charges like a 4 star. Very poor value for money, and I won't be staying there again.

The food was excellent, I would recommend anyone go and eat there, the breakfast was excellent too. This is not a good place to go for a good nights sleep. Me and my partner stayed there on Saturday night, it was 1.30 before things started to quieten down. The rooms are above the bar area and the area where the Christmas parties were happening. To make matters worse our room was virtually above the front door. The walls are extremely thin, when things did eventually quieten down I was kept awake by the guests next door snoring!

Nice hotel very handy for Picturedome giggs. The car park is very small especially when small cars take up 2 spaces, this is not monitored by the staff.

“Overall it was exceptional value. All the staff were extremely friendly. The landlord cooked us a meal on Sunday evening when food was supposed to stop at 6pm. Breakfasts were excellent as were evening meals. The only slight downside is that being a pub it is rather noisy.” Robert, Sheffield |
