I was upgraded to the Brown Room on my arrival. I loved the old beams in the ceiling and the historic character of the building in general. The breakfast was also very good. I am coeliac, so cannot eat gluten. The staff were very flexible and catered to my dietary requirements. Being a fairly light sleeper, I did notice the traffic noise a bit.

The one redeeming feature was the excellent breakfast and friendly staff/owner Very friendly staff but the hotel was a dissapointment. On arrival we found that no meals could be served apart from breakfast. The room bore no resemblance to the picture on the website. The ensuite was useable but you had to hold the toilet seat up by hand to be able to use the loo. Room looked tired without many of the expected features of a period building. Metal side bars on the bed frame were higher than the mattress which at times was very uncomfortable. The one redeeming feature was the excellent breakfast but even this did not out way the rather high price for very basic facilities. Living on its memories and reputation.

Perfect central location. Hotel with lovely character. But most of all, 5stars to the owners. Great hosts, and went out of their way to oblige. Look forward to seeing you again. Thankyou for my special breakfast !!

A very old building that needs a bit of tlc,the room was clean and the bed comfortable. The best thing was the Angel restaurant just down the road, a great meal in nice surroundings at a reasonable price, well worth a visit

The staff were very pleasant, the room was clean and the breakfast was excellent I didnt think it was an £85 room. The whole hotel had obviously seen better days and quite a lot of the decor was in real need of some work. No hand rails on the stairs.

Treated as special family members, nothing was too much trouble, even the slightest wish was acted on immediately. The booked Gold room had been upgraded, we stayed in a room with four poster bed which had all the usual facilities it was clean, spacious and comfortable. Would certainly visit again if in the area.

From the moment we walked in, Patrick (the owner) was nothing but hospitable. He took great care of us all weekend and made our stay really enjoyable. The breakfast was great... The bed was really comfortable. We would recommend anybody to go and check it out :-) x

Leading question 'What did you like best?' Leans to the positive and there were soooo many negatives. The bed was comfortable is the best part. Breakfast was good. Room cleanliness was shocking, the bathroom was particularly dirty and in disrepair - cracked sinks, masking tape holding the base of the shower cublicle together, dirty toilet seat, skin and soap scum in the shower grouting, cobwebs hanging from pretty much everywhere....I Could go on. We padi £65 per night and for that price I would have expected a standard to match any Premier Inn or Holiday Inn express at least. Car parking is tight and if you do end up entering the hotel via the back door watch out for the dog poo as they let their dog poo all over the garden - treacherous if you want to come back late at night!

We really enjoyed the welcome and friendliness of the owners - the room was comfortable although not over big. The breakfast was good quality and the dinner we had really enjoyable. A good base for visiting National Trust properties in the area.
