I have used booking.com for business & leisure for many years - this is my 1st review. reacting to some previous negative reviews for this property, I must say that I was extremely satisfied with my stay. the hosts/staff/dinner & breakfast/beds & bedrooms were all excellent. I would have no hesitation in staying here next time I am in bath. good luck to Dave & Jen & their brilliantly independent hotel. such a great find.
no fault whatsoever of the hotel, but the mobile phone reception is not too clever. come on phone companies - get this sorted.
The whole experience of our stay was excellent. Highly recommended
No minus points at all.
Very expensive for what it was. No hair dryer. Virtually no phone signal. Difficult to find.
The rooms were clean bright and large. The family room that had 1 x double and 3 singles was a great size and extremely comfortable.
Have nothing negative to say.
breakfast only served until 9am!
How helpful & efficient staff were. Kindness (provining milk) Having its own car park. The spectacular views from Upstairs. Excellent & varied breakfast.
Our own problem with finding the place at night.
Tired fixtures and fittings. Smell of damp. Tasteless food.
The guest house was very peaceful and homely. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful. We had the family room for 4 and all the beds were comfortable. The food was excellent and great value for money.
A bit hard to find as it is in the countryside but this makes it a peaceful place to stay.
owners/ staff very friendly and helpful, bed comfortable, room and general areas were clean and tidy, breakfast was very good, cosy bar area, price was good compaired to bath city prices.
room on the small size but after all you only sleep there?bar closed to early on sunday night just when we were having a good laugh
Staff is extremely courteous and always there with a helping hand or tip. Location is great, very close to Bath. Food in the restaurant is excellent.
Warm friendly helpful staff, comfortably room with a good choice of breakfast options.
Very quiet country location but close enough to Bath and several other attractions, plus Mendips walks. Very friendly and attentive staff. The lounge looks as though it would be very snug on winter evenings
Although styled a hotel it's more like a very large B&B but also offering dinners. The dinner food was good (particularly the starters) but breakfast choice limited for this price range (eg: no fresh fruit, smoked salmon etc). Clean and well kept inside but the exterior doesn't look as good.
immaculate bedding & towels, clean room with tea/coffee. Toys in room for children.
Smell of damp in reception, cold atmosphere, very old and tired, needs some tlc to warrant cost.
Breakfast menu - why have all those 'or's when the staff are quite happy to give you half of one option and half of another? Just ask people what they want from the list. Not everyone will eat you out of house and home, and the person who does will tell everyone else how wonderful you are.
Lovely staff, comfortable bed and what an amazing breakfast.
Poor mobile reception if which is not the hotel's fault.
Our fantastic hosts couldn't have been more welcoming. We had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to come back again.
Welcoming, attentive staff Cleanliness Good, served breakfast Recent addition of wifi (though didn't actually make use of it) Car parking
I never like your location question - depends what you want/need 2-star rating is right - reflecting very average restaurant (and no available draught beer!) It's not cheap for what you get
Nice, spacious room.
Overpriced room, Spartan breakfast, overcooked vegetables at dinner.
Comfortable stay, polite/friendly/helpful staff, good shower, basic room needs met & great breakfast :)
Due to the high temperature/good weather the room was too warm with no air conditioning, we were given a fan! Needed more plug sockets for your gadgets and location remote meant poor phone signal! :(
Staff were hardworking, friendly and efficient; owner took a genuine interest in guests at her hotel without being obtrusive. Pleasantly surprised at the standard and quality of the food in the restaurant in the evening. Other groups of guests seemed to have spent several nights at the hotel and got to know each other. Peaceful view over fields opposite. Slightly dated lounge with small bar, but didn't matter, very relaxing atmosphere.
Slight difficulty finding it: keep following the brown sign down the lane and don't lose your nerve.
friendlly staff comfortable room excellent food.
Got there late but they still managed to supply a great meal. Room was great with plenty of room to spread out. Good nights sleep and a full breakfast. I'll be back.
Lovely family run feel, very welcoming and beautiful location.
No mobile phone signal due to being tucked away in a valley; connecting to wifi proved troublesome.
Staff very friendly location child friendly
We stayed for two night's at The Old Malthouse the staff were fantastic and we had a lovely dinner there on one of the nights. Breakfast is great as well. It is ideally situated for sightseeing and we will definitely return one day. A really lovely hotel. Thanks to David and all the staff.
