The Old Railway StationStation Road, GU28 0JF Petworth (Show map) Wonderful, Score from 14 reviews“It was a charming experience to sleep on board a Pullman carriage and dream of travelling to distant places! The 1930s ambience was well re-recreated and the whole experience was delightful.”

Guest rooms at the Old Railway Station hotel are in fully restored Edwardian Pullman train carriages. The whole station has been converted into an unusual and elegant hotel. The waiting room retains its 20 ft high vaulted ceiling and is now the guest lounge. It leads out onto the platform which is a summer breakfast venue. In winter, breakfast is served, accompanied by a roaring log fire, in the booking hall. The dining area backs onto the station master's and ticket offices, now the station kitchen, and features the original ticket windows. There are 2 guest rooms in the Station House, the rest are restored train carriages. All rooms have private bathrooms and flat-screen TVs. Petworth village is 1.2 miles from the Old Railway Station. Chicester is a 25-minute drive away while Bognor Regis and the seaside are 30 minutes away. Hotel Rooms: 8

If you blanche at the cost of a trip on the Orient Express itself, consider staying in one of the carriages of this hotel as a quirky alternative - they are beautifully appointed, as is the breakfast room in the Old Railway Station itself. This place doesn't disappoint, especiallly if you pay a little extra to get one of the slightly larger carriages.

Wonderful accomodation, the bedroom carriage was a wee bit small but a real treat. The service at The Old Railway Station was personal thoughtful and friendly, would definitely reccomend this to others. The local pub nearby where we had dinner ,wasn't so great, with average and overpriced food.

The novelty of staying in a railway carriage was so nice, everywhere was quiet and peaceful, the trees surrounding were full of birds and everywhere was clean and tidy. The waiting room used as sitting room/dining room was full of fascinating railway memorabillia. The platform overlooking very colourful gardens was set up for breakfast and also for afternoon cream teas and added to the 'holiday' atmosphere. The cream tea was super with the scones served warm straight from the oven, and the breakfast was amazing - the best breakfast we have had for years, even compared with places like Skibo and Bovey Castles which we have also stayed in. All this coupled with badger watching at Cowdray Park and you have a super weekend.

Very attentive staff, very relaxed atmosphere and excellent breakfast Lovely comfortable bed, however the slightest move made bed squeak, so disturbed sleep.

A nostalgic trip down memory lane, sleeping in beautifully restored, Pullman railway coaches. (the King Pullman is the one to book), all in a Grade II listed environment. A fantastic historic association with King Edward VII and a delightful experience all round. A definite and resounding YES to repeat visits and, in fact, have decided that a quarterly trip to that part of the UK will include a weekend stopover to relax and chill out.

The location was good and the greeting /service by the staff was excellent. Really made to feel welcome. Breakfast on the platform was a novel experience and we could not fault the food.It was handy to have "The Badger" pub at the end of the track with nice setting and good food.

The courtesy, friendliness of all staff. Great breakfast. Perfect and unique setting. The treatment made you feel you would like to go back to The Old Railway Station and experience more time there. Ours was only an overnight stop and I felt it should have been longer! Thanks to all concerned for making it a most unusual and pleasant "stop-over" Nobodys fault at all but the night we stayed the heavens opened and the noise of the rain on the Pullman did disturb the sleep a little. However, overall it did not spoil the short visit!

Very 19th century feel. Railway carriages beautifully converted although for large people a little cramped. It rained during e night and e sound of rain was lovely. Breakfast in the old booking office waiting room was wonderful. Not good if you have a lot of luggage, but a vey romantic setting Not enough room for a lot of luggsge
