This historic old school offers relaxed surroundings with many of the services of a large hotel. Originally built in 1875 and converted after 1992, the old school now provides exceptional levels of comfort and quality accommodations. Many of the building's historic features have been retained, including the 130-year-old exposed beams, heavy school doors and the original bell tower. All rooms are large and benefit from central heating, king beds and designer Egyptian cotton bed linens. The walls are decorated with original art works. Services such as internet access and parking are provided free of charge. The Old School House is on Dartmoor National Park and only a short drive from the ancient stannery (tin mining) town of Tavistock, the naval city of Plymouth, Yelverton and Derriford. Interesting building. Attractively furnished and well equipped bedroom with plenty of storage space. Nice breakfast with home-made bread and marmalade, convenient parking. Not easy to find in picturesque village but with very narrow congested streets and narrow bridge. Advise ringing for precise directions before entering village. The shower in room 1 was rather feeble and difficult to adjust temperature.

Unusual and interesting conversion of an old school house. Comfortable and well appointed. Tasteful if slightly "quirky" style. Friendly hosts with good local knowledge. Excellent breakfast with local, good quality products. Delicious homemade bread and conserves.

On first sight of The Old School House we were very happy we chose here to stay. As soon as you walk in, the interior is absolutely beautiful, warm and welcoming, our room was stunning and the little finishing touches made it that extra bit more special, we felt completely relaxed as soon as we got there. The food was beautifully cooked, with plenty of choice and very delicious. We were very well looked after by Maxine and Chris, a beautiful place to stay and we will definitely go back.

A very friendly and happy place to stay with many personal touches. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and we given a lovely card and excellent service. The room was beautifully clean with lovely linen and furnishings. Digital radio and a wide variety of tv channels were provided to relax with. The ensuite bathroom was excellent with a large bath and shower facility. The breakfast was outstanding with many items hand made or farmed locally. We would highly recommend The Old School House with out reservation.

The location was very convenient on this occasion for visiting friends and we appreciated the quiet situation away from busy roads. The room was comfortable with plenty of hanging space and drawers. Great to have a fridge in addition to the usual tea/coffee making facility. We appreciated the locally grown/sourced food. We were disappointed with the evening meal, especially as we had read such high praise in the reviews. Soup, steak, beans and new potatoes, although good, was not a very interesting choice and not one I would select when eating out. I was particularly disappointed to be offered only a cheeseboard for dessert, again a choice I would never make. I did comment at the time that I would prefer fruit, but the few grapes had to suffice. We both felt that the evening meal did not give value for money. For the price charged we felt that a choice of dish and a variety of vegetables should have been offered.

A warm welcome awaited us when we arrived. We were shown to a lounge area which was stunning and so relaxing. The owners have two beautiful cats which we fell in love with, we didnt want to go to our rooms initially as we felt so comfortable and relaxed. The room was lovely and light and airy, windows in the ceiling, kingsize bed, good sized fridge, fresh milk, tea and coffee, luxury. We only stayed one night but we would have liked to have stayed longer. If we had to say anything negative it would be the check in time of 1700, we felt we would have liked it a bit earlier so that we could have settled in and got freshened up earlier.

From all locations we visit in the UK is this the best. Hospitality is great. Every day we've got good advice for places to visit. Breakfast and diner were excelent. Chris a "Master Chef". The diners were a real feast. Maxine is the nicest hostess we ever met. We will certain visit the Old School House again.

Lovely building with really quirky but comfortable and well equipped rooms. Breakfast was really good. The owner was very helpful and pleasant. Parking is always a bonus. The village is very nice with a couple of decent pubs. I would certainly stay here again. Very minor niggle is the signs all over the place saying what not to do! Perhaps I've watched too much '3 in a bed!'

The Old School House is in a very tranquil position, set in beautiful surroundings an ideal spot for a romantic break. The interior is done to a very high standard with all the facilities you require. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, and the food is top class, could not fault it any way, my only grumble would be that we couldn't stay any longer.
