Very good,
Score from 313 reviews
Set in over 5 acres of private gardens, The Old Swan was once the famous retreat of Agatha Christie. It offers modern rooms with en suite facilities, and free on-site parking. Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it now features rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV and trouser press. Some also have a stand-alone bath and views over the garden. The traditional Swan Lounge and Bar offers a selection of beverages and afternoon teas, while the Wedgewood and Library restaurants serve fresh, locally sourced dishes. The Old Swan was home to Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926, and has since been used as a film set for the 1977 film, Agatha. Just a short walk from Harrogate town centre, the building is 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Betty’s Tearoom and 15 minutes from Harrogate Railway Station. Hotel Rooms: 136, Hotel Chain: Classic Lodges. Most recent booking for this hotel was yesterday at 16:18 from United Kingdom.

Clean and comfortable. Good location to the town and convention centre. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and have not come across a 'handling surcharge' for settling the account with a credit card. To be told there is an additional fee after your stay has been confirmed at an agreed internet rate, has put me off staying here again. It was only a nominal charge but why not include it in the price? Then the customer doesn't feel that they're being fleeced for extra cash when they leave.

The convenience of the location of the hotel, staff very helpful and friendly. Just happened to get rather a surly waitress at Breakfast one morning, who just did not know how to smile. !!!!!

It was like being in a country hotel but in the town centre very very good The downside was that our breakfast was just piled onto the plate,no presentation at all and it was a shame as the food was quite nice.

Staf very friendly, good location. Gardens at rear overgrown, neglected[advertised gardens manicured and landscaped] no safe in room poor attention to detail, ie dining room chair marked and in need of repair had to queue for breakfast 1 morning as hotel v busy, more staff would have prevented this buffet breakfast due to v busy hotel, not as good as prepared to order, ie overcooked eggs, undercooked bacon, again insufficient staff pillows hard and uncomfortable overpriced for facilities

Bed was comfortable, shower was good, modern bathroom; helpful staff. Disap[ointed with hotel and the value, (paid £130). Corridors in need of painting; dining chairs stained and worn. Room was dark and bedside light and two lights in the bathroom did not work. Although food at breakfast was of good quality it was luke warm. Would not stay again.

The location was paramount for the purpose of my trip and that, combined with the friendliness and pleasant attitude of the staff, "ticked all the right boxes" for me. The rooms (this was my second stay) are excellent and well appointed. I very much hope to be able to return again. There is/was nothing that I didn't like about Old Swan Hotel!

We particularly enjoyed the friendlyness of all the staff, from reception desk to waiters and room service. For the first time we had two evening meals at the hotel, they were both very enjoyable. We also like the rooms on the ground floor for relaxing, reading, chatting. It was a very relaxing stay, the room was comfortable, we enjoyed partial views to the park, a great improvement to last time. However we appreciate that a lot of the rooms are at the back of the hotel where the view is not so great. Many thanks for giving us a room on the side of the hotel with some views on the park, room no 284.

It was well situated for us, 6 schoolfriends on a weekend break to catch up with gossip and shopping The menus on the evening there was not a lot to choose from even a simple roast would have been great for one of our group who has to watch what she eats

Pleasant, friendly staff. Bedrooms were 'tired'. Evening meal in restaurant was disappointing - small portions of mediocre food at inflated prices.

Location excellent for walking into town. Free parking. Quaintness and architecture of the building. Curteous staff. Well cooked breakfast. Excellent shower. Ever so slightly tired feel to the bedroom. Thermostat on heaters needs to be turned down - room and bathroom too warm.

Friendly staff The hotel sound installion is poor. When guests are closing room doors it can be heard everywhere.Definately not a place for a light sleeper! We upgraded to executive room and had to call room service for the items which should have been provided for this room.Same happened again on the second night of our stay.We also found our shower producing only hot water and heating system which is either on or off but couldn't be asked to complain anymore. This hotel is past it sell by date and perfect for catering for bus tours and down grade weddings.

I have been promising myself a visit because of the Agatha Christie link.I Arranged to stay there with my mother. We both enjoyed the experience. Wasn't as "elegant" as I'd hoped. Maybe I was expecting too much of the 1920s to have been preserved.

Location was superb being a short walk from Harrogate town centre. Magnificent building and prices were reasonable. The hotel last refurbished in 2006 is in need of some TLC as it's fraying at the edges. Shame that the grounds of the hotel are suffering from lack of attention as the potential to create an amazing space exists.
