Well appointed accommodation
Cleanliness and facilities of the shower room
It's got that old fashioned feel despite being renovated which gives it charm and character.
Very clean and short walk to the town centre
Beds were very small and we normally like to choose our own breakfast
Pillows hard and flat. Floorboards on room above creaked until early hours obviously another resident had insomnia. Rooms so dreary need repainting. Very dark in room. The bar was awful due to ridiculous oversized Alice in Wonderland furniture making what should be a social able area very anti social. Extremely disappointing stay.
Venue for the planned 40/50 big band with Phil Lyons was excellent, hope they return and we will too. Evening meal and served breakfast was excellent.
The valence on the bed was very dirty, bathroom toiletries already used and half full, 1 teabag and 1 hot choc on our arrival day, second day all refreshed.
the public rooms
my room was basic and small also ice cold there was no room for me in the dining room for dinner a member of staff offered to book a table for me in the town, i am 83 and did not want to go out of the hotel at night. I had to eat in the bar not good.next morning when i spoke to the head waiter and told him at 8 pm the previous evening i could not get a table for dinner yet at 8 pm the dining room was only a third full he said the chefs couldn't cope with any more people. Who then cooked my bar meal? the fish pie was good the vgetables cold and i was unable to eat them. Very dissapointing as i was looking forward to my stay and sitting in that dining room.
Superb room - executive double. Fantastic location and good breakfast. Lovely grounds too.
Rock hard pillows :( Lovely bar staff but decidedly slow service... Parking a bit of a problem, make sure you get a permit otherwise Harrogate council will book you!!
Food lovely and central location
Would have liked better pillows
When I book a twin I expect a twin
Staff were nice ,hotel in a good spot
Tired, not that clean, food really bad. Limp cold toast , cold badly cooked breakfast , no clean tables !
could do with a general spruce up
a "interesting" wedding party going on. ordered two cocktails came in half pint glasses. Not a four star hotel by any standards Car parked way up the road.
The old charm of the hotel with lots of the original features. The ideal location too.
The room was rather small and it took sometime to check out as was a little unorganised.
Great location in a beautiful hotel. We chose it because of the Agatha Christie connection but it's proximity to town make it an ideal weekend get-a-way.
Service was slow especially at breakfast and in the bar. It was a busy weekend and it didn't look like there was enough staff to cover. Also very slow to clear tables so guests left standing outside dining room.
Quality of room in line with cost of room is an issue, £160 per night for room 141 premier Inn would have been better.
Very noisy in room due to function
Great location and beautiful communal areas. Breakfast was lovely, lots of friendly staff on hand to take your order and was served very quick.
Room a bit bland.
It's location and architecture
The room offered smelt of cooked food, no view from the window and definitely not as represented in the photo of the classic double. Room changed but equally disappointing. Breakfast very poor quality
We really enjoyed our stay, apart from the shower control would not turn the hot water down so consequently it was too hot to use! disappointing! luckily we had a bath as well!! The comfort of the bed and pillows was excellent I have stayed in the hotel before and had I have enjoyed both stays. Loved the Turkish Baths too!!! Thank you.
the shower !!
Close to convention centre
Breakfast was very expensive !!
Very helpful staff, excellent location, very good food, nice place to stay.
Very hard pillows resulted in poor sleep for 2 nights! Enjoyed Harrogate but stay was spoilt slightly by sleep deprivation.
Location and room cleanliness.
Only a double sized bed that slid away from the wall. The noise from the corridor's, could hear every word that was said, It is an old building, but the floor boards were very creaky and noisy both in the room and also in the corridors and the wardrobe vibrated noisily every time one walked past it. Also, it would appear that a lot of expense has been undergone in the large main bar area yet the service and encouragement to stay is not there. My husband and I sat down and a young man cleared away cups not really acknowledging us. At that point (as it was very quiet) he could have asked if we would like a drink, offer us a drinks bar menu ( apparently there isn't one!?) or at least told it was self service. After about 5 mins of looking and waiting whilst 2 bar staff were chatting at the bar my husband walked up to the bar, where upon they had disappeared round the back. As my husband was about to look round the back to call someone, a youing man came forward and served us pleasantly with 2 G&T's. For the next half an hour I did observe many elderly people, mainly ladies, coming into the bar and having to go up and order their own drinks. It just isn't the correct way to run this area, in my opinion. The Hotel would acquire far more revenue (and tips for staff) if it were table service with a pleasant and varied drinks menu, and what's wrong with 3 or 4 cocktails (one could be non alcoholic). It's all about service revenue and profitability. It could be so much better !
The hotel looks fabulous with so much character, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the location - slap bang in the middle of beautiful Harrogate - was perfect for a weekend of wandering and getting to know the town better.
The heating and plumbing are not really up to the job of a chilly January weekend but when we complained about banging pipes and a cold bathroom, we were upgraded to a suite. The restaurant food was good but a little bland - perhaps a nod to the average age of most of the guests when we stayed there.
The staff as always are very pleasant and accommodating. The room service was good and efficient and the food very tasty.
Liked the location of the hotel and being able to walk into Harrogate town centre
