Freshly ground coffee at breakfast, nice buffet at breakfast, food hot and fresh, service friendly Room dusty and felt dirty, other peoples hairs on toilet, sink, in bath and shower area. Window glass smashed (looked like a bullet hole), opening window would not close and as had flat roof did not feel safe during the night. Warned not to leave items in car. Altogether not a very pleasant stay. |

The staff very very friendly and helpful. I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 15 years and it has become tired and out dated in need of lots of investment and refurbuishment. |

Excellent room - refurbished since my last stay - room was clean, en suite bathroom also refurbished and very clean also. Excellent breakfast as usual. Grapefruit, juices, cereals, toast, bacon, sausage, tomato, scrambled egg and beans. tea or coffee. |

The price was ok considering the hotel is near to the town centre and ideally located for shopping. We asked to move rooms as there were very loud people singing in the room above ours. We were moved into a quieter and nicer room by a lovely staff member but would still have to say that the hotel seemed to need updating throughout. The breakfast was mediocre. |

Close to the city centre and it was cheap enough for a basic one night stay. |

Polite and courtieous staff that more than make you feel at home giving a warm atmosphere and acceptance to all. The only thing i would comment on is the breakfast. The toast when served in a rack is normally cut into triangles not served as a whole slice. Tomatoes were fresh but an alternative of tinned would be nice. The scrambled egg was very rich in butter and would possibly be better without. |

The staff were helpful and always extremely courteous from check in to check out They stopped serving meals before the advertised time so we had to go out in the rain to find hot food |

For the price paid it was very good value. I found the single room quite small for a one week stay. |

The friendly atmosphere of the hotel, the quality of the food provided.I feel I was made to feel welcome from booking in to booking out.I will certainly use the Portland Hotel on my next visit to Birmingham. My only complaint if it is one, whilst there is Sky television in the main area, after a long drive to Birmingham I would like a better selection of tv chanels to relax to |
