Wi fi in room, breakfast ok.
mattress was terrible , worst we ever had. Stairs to get to the room very hazardous. Toilet and shower far too small , awkward to use, Room too hot or too cold as one couldn't control the temp.
Last minute booking for visiting my daughter in Uni and needed a room for 3. This appeared at such a good price I must admit I wasn't sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the hotel. Sandra cooked our breakfast in the morning (all included in price) with a smile and exactly how we wanted it. We will stay again!
We couldn't complain about anything. The weather was the let-down, it teemed down!
Lack of room to sit in bedroom ecept on bed
breakfast waitress was very friendly
room was cold radiator never worked dust everywhere ,bathroom was tiny.
The staff were most friendly and helpful
The place was not very clean and needed much upgrading
Location was centre of town. Nice riverside view. Delicious breakfast. Good for shops, bars and restaurants. Near to Colchester Zoo and not far from Flatford Mill.
It was VERY hot in the rooms with no fans or aircon available. No food available in bar which shuts early. A bit noisy in the morning when builders go off to work early.
Warm and comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Lovely old building. Excellent value for money.
The room we were in was a little noisy, so we couldn't have a window open.
Sandra was friendly and attentive, couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect. The hotel is great value and in an ideal position.
Good value for money. Location is close to town centre (10-15 minutes walk). Room is clean enough.
Staff were not so happy with me checking in after midnight. Although it says on the hotel's page on Booking.com: "24-hour front desk", and Check-in times "From 14:00 hours", with no time-limit. I've mentioned while booking that I'm expecting to check-in at midnight.
Compact clean room, tea coffee facilities in room, tv, small ensuite
Did not like being called before 11 to tell me to checkout at 11 I knew this and didn't feel the call was necessary and spoiled my overall impression.
walls very thin!
Friendliness of staff. Went out of their way to be helpful to us Americans. Location excellent for seeing the town, close to trains and buses.
No bars, shelves, or hooks in the bath.
The staff was very nice and the breakfast was very hearty. Loved the antiquity of the building which of course made for older beds and smaller bathrooms.. We found Colchester to be a very interesting city and would have liked to have stayed there longer.
Cpnfusion about payiing - we had the assumption that we must pay in pounds on arrival and thus had changed money. We found out they had billed our credit cards and hopefully since we gave them the cash, we will see that charge cancelled.
Comfy beds, Nice shower room, Good choice of breakfast
Noisy neighbours during night time, Not so clean and old bedroom carpets
Very friendly family run hotel. Suited my needs completely. The breakfast was lovely and served by a lovely character! The room was small but clean with an adequate shower room and toilet. A bargain at the price paid!
The fact that the building was built in 1604 and you could still get the feeling of how it might have been at that time.
This building is very old, built around 1605 so was of great interest especially to my New Zealand husband. The staff were very nice and extremely helpful. Breakfast was very good.
There was nothing to dislike.
Well situated for visiting colchester town on foot. Very good value and with off road town centre parking
Location was perfect for all the bars and restaurants in the evening, friendly staff, easy parking, would choose again if I'm in the area
really enjoyed my stay at the Riverside hotel. I found the staff welcoming and friendly. The food was nice. The bed were comfortable and easily explained. Fresh towels every day and they didn't mind the mess. Being a zombie can become quite messy :P
would have like to have been offered more than one room key but apart from that excellent
the staff who made breakfast nice lady not the owner
every thing in hotel very dirty
Location was very good.Hotel and room were clean and breakfast enjoyable.
On two of the nights stayed the hotel was mainly occupied by contractors which meant that the car park was full with their vans. There is no lift and found the stairs to the first floor difficult. For two people the bedroom was on the small side. I would have preferred a receipt to have been issued on leaving.
It is lacking human attention
Comfy beds, plenty of hot water, good breakfast, very helpful and friendly staff! Central location by river.
Bit dusty in places. Some decor stuck in the '80s. Steep stairs if you have bad knees-but can't be helped as old building.
