Rowers HotelSt Omers Road, Dunston, NE11 9EJ Gateshead (Show map) Pleasant, Score from 42 reviews“Friendly and helpful staff, pleasant informal atmosphere with a nicely cooked tasty breakfast. Good value for money, will go again.”
Patrick,
Southampton
Less than a mile from Gateshead’s MetroCentre, Europe's largest shopping mall, this charming hotel offers comfortable, well-appointed en suite accommodation with a nautical theme. The Rowers Hotel is also very close to Newcastle’s city centre and the Quayside. With the hotel as a comfortable base, you can enjoy cultural events at the Sage Gateshead or at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Alternatively, you could experience Newcastle's vibrant nightlife. The hotel’s recent refurbishments have created luxurious surroundings, but the atmosphere is always homely and relaxed. The Rowers' décor is nautical, to reflect its riverside traditions. Oak panelling throughout adds a warm, traditional look. There is a pleasant, sunny conservatory overlooking the gardens. All of the en suite rooms have a TV, radio and tea/coffee making facilities. Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout. Hotel Rooms: 10

Nice hotel, staff were very friendly and a good breakfast was served in the morning. It's only a bus ride into the city.

Leaving. The room stank. Bin full of stangent water probably from radiator made room stink like rotting meat. Staff removed bin but it was in carpets. Arrived back late at night and room was terrible struggled to sleep. Digusting is the word for our room. Hotel in desperate need of some TLC. Would be good value for money if it get cleaned. A little elbow grease goes along way

Lets do the Time Warp again! Well, the Rowers needs updating to say the least! However, we were looking for a hotel for the night as our son was doing the Great North Run. Nearly every hotel had more than doubled their prices and the Rowers was the only one I could find that had kept their normal rates - so, for that reason alone it gets my vote. We had a warm welcome, the room (and the hotel itself) is in real need of decorating and updating, but it was adequate and we had a decent hot cooked breakfast the next morning. Ideal for the Metro Centre and Costco - both only a 10 minute walk away. Lets face it, if you want the Hilton luxury, then you have to pay for it. Good budget hotel.

Too out-dated, squashed into a cabin-style bed I had to climb over my partner to get out of it....... Decor not good at all. Needs a complete over-haul. Taps missing, bath from 1920's...... more >>>

my wife booked a twin room at rowers hotel for my son and myself. we came down to attend the iron maiden concert. the staff were cheery and helpfull, the breakfast on sunday morning was first class, our room was clean and comfortable. parking space for the car which is not always the case in city centre hotels so, to us this was a bonus. we will without a doubt be using the rowers again, and let family and friends know. many thanks........pete & scott there was nothing atall that we didn't like about the rowers hotel.

I liked the food, breakfast. I liked the proximity to the town and the City. I like the friendliness of the staff that came into our contact. The cleanliness of the hotel was poor. Window ledges were unclean, with stains on wood, and a covering of dust. I didn't like the fact the lights in the room and bathroom were not working. I didn't like the temperature of the rooms. Too hot.

There is nothing to like about this hotel. From the threadbare carpet at the front door, the extremely small room and the completely disinterested staff this has been the worst hotel on our 4 week uk holiday.

I have really appreciated the kindness and the availability of the lady who prepared the breakfast and took care of the clients when they woke up. The room itself has kept its traditionnal english b&b style with its chair, bed even the bath tub. It's great for people who want to discover the old traditional english b&b The bed sheet, the pillows, the towels didn't smell fresh at all. There was actually a very smell and I couldn't really use the towel after my shower I could bearly stand the smell nor the tidiness of the towel. The bed sheet wasn't clean.

Ok for what we needed but not the cleanest hotel. If you stay here, don't look for dirt in corners, you won't like what you see!
