Room was fine and staff ok Breakfast was, to be honest, very disappointing. It is usually my favourite meal at a hotel. Choice of cereals very limited. I was looking forward to a hot breakfast and chose the Eggs Benedict. The Hollandaise sauce was inedible (tasted strongly of vinegar) and ruined the meal. Coffee cold and tasteless.

We felt that the staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. They used their own initiative but lacked, at times, any clearly co-ordinated management. We also felt that at times they were a bit stretched. The hotel was in very good order, well decorated and many of the old original features of the building have been carefully maintained. The bedrooms were large, well furnished and comfortable. The bar, as the hotel claims, offers the finest view in Ross. Would be lovely in the summer, sipping pimms on the balcony loking down across Herefordshire and watching the river Wye below. The breakfasts were great with plenty of choice. Other than the breakfasts, the food left a lot to be desired. Trying to offer two meals for £9.95 will attract some customers but the inevitable disappointing quality could lose others. Either use fesh garnish or none at all. Overcooked, limp vegetables are not appatising. Reheated, pre-cooked fish pie......and so on. Even the quite expensive sirloin of steak, which was cooked well, was spoilt by rather soggy chips and overcooked vegetables. If the Royal Hotel addressed the quality of its lunches and dinners, it would become one of the top hotels in the area.

Comfortable, quiet, clean, very large ensuite room (superior), comfortable kingsize bed and all the usual room facilities. Dining room does Sunday evening hot meals as well as all other days. The bathroom toilet had a slow leak from the base (reported)! A routine inspection should have picked this up beforehand.

First visit: Welcomed, booked in efficiently, comfortable room, pleasant meal in restaurant, drink in bar, easy to find, ample car parking Second visit: Similar but even better room for not much extra. Only downside was unavailability of restuarant leading to meal in bar with very small number of staff very hard-pressed. But still enjoyable stay, despite torrential rain!

Our room ws very clean, the bathroom had been refurbished well, we had a large room with armchairs and a good tv. The beds were comfortable - a good room but the outlook was poor. The bar was fine as was the dining room. The food was fine too. Poor outlook from room 21

Location was good and easy reach to town centre without being in the middle of it all. Access by car easy and excellent parking. The view from the bar is beautiful. Great shower. Plentiful breakfast. Needs some renovation in corridor, torn and worn carpets, steps and long way to my room, through 3 fire doors. Bit difficult with luggage.

The staff were very friendly and exceptionally helpful. The rooms are a bit dated and the shower curtains could do with changing as they do smell when you enter the room for the 1st time. We stayed for 1 night but had an enjoyable meal in the restaurant and the food was good

As is usual with our stays at the Royal, we had another great time! The room with the outstanding view over the river was superb! The staff (Gail, Bernard, Stef and Kirsty) are all so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. This hotel represents tremendous value for money and we can't wait for our next stay!

The staff were friendly, efficient and polite, and the veiw from our room overlooking the river was perfect. We dined in the hotel and found the food to be very good, giving excellent value for money and catering for a range of tastes and pockets. There were welcoming log fires in the bar and a large garden which would be a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a drink in warmer weather. We found the room to be rather hot at night and did not know how to turn down the heating, but we managed to cool down by opening the patio doors.
