Central location. Attractive building
No help with luggage offered. A poor shower
The general high standard and the courtesy and helpfulness of the restaurant staff.
The sometimes intrusive motor noise in the air-conditioning system.
I likes virtually everything about this hotel, particularly the location.
Room 102 - really needs a bigger sink in the bathroom and more shelves to put your stuff on.
Everything from start to finish was excellent.tge staff were great and the food was really nice . Would recommend to anyone ...
The hotel overlooks the beautiful Exeter Cathedral and is next door to the town centre. The building is very old and the floors slope but that adds to the character.

Service Superb restaurant
Lovely location, overlooking Exeter Cathedral, right in the city centre. Good bar, very good (but very costly) restaurant.
The rooms was tiny, really not ideal for two people. The bathroom was also very small, with nowhere to put anything. The bath and shower were at least 20 years old. The shower was little more than a dribble and the water screen leaked all over the floor. The building is very old so, if you're happy to be seduced (swindled) by the 'ye olde England' thing, you may love it. Personally, I found the sloping floors a tad annoying, especially given how little space there was in the room. The lady who checked us in could not have been less interested, and the lady who checked us out got our surname completely wrong. Unfortunately, the building was also covered in scaffolding and we were woken by loud banging ad the sight of a builder's butt right outside our 3rd floor window at 9am. Given this, the least they could have done was mark the price down. Definitely not worth £90. Overall, very unimpressed.
Lovely suite, lots of space and equipped to a very high standard. Again the floor was uneven in places, which is quaint if it isn't the whole room!
Recently stayed one night. Booked superior room - disappointingly small. Floor was at a considerable angle, enough so that the bed had different lengths of leg to accommodate this. Looked like an optical illusion but a rolling can proved it otherwise. Some may call this quaint but for a superior room not what I would expect. Moved rooms and had to pay for an upgrade as no other room available.
We stayed for one night a couple of weeks before Christmas. The location is perfect for shopping and exploring Exeter but even better when the Christmas market is just outside your door. The hotel has maintained its old world charm while giving all the comfort and amenities you expect. The staff were helpful and gave us room upgrades. Parking is a short walk away and bags can be dropped off on the doorstep. Breakfast was excellent
Location of hotel Style of furnishings, etc. Free wifi Bed Shower
Bathroom sink was miniscule with no surface space for any own belongings. Room overlooked narrow alley with very little light and opposite a pub.
Excellent, fast free wifi
Very limited space in bedroom
Very welcoming reception staff, very professional and helpful. View of cathedral from room.
We had to ask to be let in to the Champagne Bar and felt a bit awkward in there on our own, then no bars were open when we returned from our meal at 2230. It was New Years Day but still....
The staff were friendly and efficient. The car parking was very good value for money. The room was larger than expected with a very comfortable bed.
Location next to cathedral & Xmas market
Parking arrangements and bar facilities also breakfast was poor
Excellent room, as advertised - luxurious
Parking is not ideal - fine for young/light travellers but those with mobility issues would be wise to contact the hotel in advance.
Noisy air conditioning(?) unit outside ran through the night preventing sleep. Such a shame as everything else was very good.
The Abode Hotel is really the old Royal Clarence Hotel in poor disguise because the name of the old hotel is still emblazoned on their front. The hotel is set in Cathedral Yard opposite the cathedral. Reception was very efficient and helpful, producing an excellent map of the centre of Exeter for my use. It is 10 years since I last stayed at the hotel and although I recognised the bar, the rooms have been completely modernised. I was very very impressed by the decor. There has been a lot of thought put into the design of the rooms. The shower was very user friendly and I was particularly taken with the small hand towels by the hand basin. I only stayed in the restaurant for breakfast, which was very good.
I could not find a fault.
Superior room, decor throughout the hotel including taste in pictures, charm of hotel and location, polite staff, thorough cleaning of rooms, very comfortable bed, good shower, lovely bath area and shower products, biscuits in room and not over priced room snacks/drinks.
Lack of plugs in room so need to move kettle to floor position. View of dirty alleyway out of window. Expensive bar.
Location very good, great champagne bar were I enjoyed a delicious pina colada. Helpful staff. Kept a bit of character which is nice in an older style hotel.
Not keen on bath in bedroom would have preferred nice sofa as it took up too much room. Absolutely no view from window shame as its such a lovely spot.
The location perfect, all staff very courteous and polite. The food and service outstanding.
The bedroom was freezing no heating on when we arrived. Reception sorted out immediately by providing a heater. The only socket in the room was floor level hidden under a table, not ideal using a hair dryer as barely reached to dry your hair, and no mirror in view. There was a step up to the bath which was located in the room which then led into the shower room. A lovely large shower unfortunately the towel rail was sited on the opposite wall so you either dripped water all over the floor which makes it slippery or put the towel on the floor next to the shower. Plus it was not a heated towel rail so the room was cold not ideal in the winter. A small modern hand basin with a shelf protruding above so very little room to wash hands and clean teeth.
Location On Site facilities
Size of the room, previous visit room was spacious and adequate, this time it was a tiny room with the view of wall 1m away from the window. (room 103)
Location and ambience excellent
Standard double room very small and bed very soft
Staff were great, large hotel with a family hotel feeling, stayed in many hotels and most in Exeter. Receptionists were fantastic. will be back
