Front desk staff exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Nothing really caused me any concern.
Breakfast was excellent as were the staff,
Breakfast milk not in a chiller, warm milk on cereal. The Ash restaurant was disappointing, the floor was dirty with lots of crumbs, we had 4 different waiters at our table, the staff also appeared to be having an argument at the bar, not loudly but still quite obvious, we chose to eat out on our second night.
Good for train travellers
No proper restaurant facilities in evening
location location location cloak/luggage room lift to upper floors old world charm
too expensive not enough value for the money endlessly long check in process overly crowded foyer (suggest separate group check-in spot) too many staff in restaurant food prices excessive no view
Convenient parking. Efficient and friendly waiters and reception staff
Bar staff in Ash Restuarant. Main courses tended to be overcooked.
Nice and central. Grand surroundings. Pleasant staff.
Rooms were hot - no form of air conditioning or even a fan (although to be fair we didn't ask for one).
I love this hotel and have been twice before. The interior is beautiful. On previous stays I had a double room but this time I had a very comfortable single on the third floor. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice. Its next door to the railway station and very near the pedestrianized shopping area and across the road from the Victorian Market. You can get taxis outside and there is internet access a few yards away adjoining the station for those of us who don't take their gadgets on holiday.
I read about the satellite TV but the channels available in my room were very limited.
the relaxed atmsphere particularly the lounge area
being without wi-fi expensive to buy
Residents area was away from casual dining/drinking. Easy access to train station.
Room wasn't ready when told it would be. Lift very slow to respond. Staff reluctant to allow breakfast when not booked - yet I was willing to pay. Woken each morning by train engine at 0600hrs which then continued for 2 x hours.
room size light level in room windows did not open early continental breakfast booked and paid but not provided very early check out time carpet in second level hallway badly wrinkled - trip hazard restaurant food average and fairly expensive bar staff not on the ball breakfast not replenished quickly enough and tables not cleared timeously
Booked this hotel for its proximity to station. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast, and our twin room was very comfortable.
The lift was very slow
Perfect location for shops, bars and restaurants. Friendly staff , brilliant breakfast
Building structure and features were beautiful. Dining room staff delightful. Loved the hotel but looks tired and in need of work to return it to its former glory.
Reception staff did not appear to know what they were doing. Long wait for check in until a senior staff member assisted. Rooms require to have wallpaper removed and fresh paint applied to suit the building. Please remove all the plastic silk flowers makes the place look tacky. Art work on the beautiful staircase out of place, not suitable.
Friendly staff. Lovely internal decor.
Placed a breakfast order to the room at 8am. Didn't arrive. Dialling 0 for reception proved fruitless. I had to dial the external hotel number to contact reception desk. Breakfast arrived at my room at 8.50am and had clearly been rushed. Couldn't eat it in the end. Very apologetic staff but not a very reliable service.
Food was terrible. Air con was none existent, staff couldn't care less, the shower didn't work! Apart from that…it was fine.
Location is central and ideal for train travel
Restaurant Very spacious room Very friendly helpful staff
Bit hard to find the hotel
Excellent room - very spacious and comfortable. Covenient location. Good public rooms. A lot of money has been spent on the hotel, but see below.
Poor food - quality and value. Most staff (some notable exceptions) simply did not seem happy and guests appeared an inconvenience. Now need to give attention to food and staff.
close to train and bus links close to shops and walk to river fine for a night when you are travelling the next day by bus or train. No potential for travel aggro.
Needs refurb...very 1980s
We found the hotel very easily and while there was no free parking left at the hotel, the nearby car park was reasonably priced. We loved our room and the general ambiance of the hotel. The reception staff were very welcoming.
The only downside of our stay was the reception we got when arriving down for breakfast at 9.15am (breakfast served until 9.30am) We felt we were in the way! My husband's bowl of fruit was cleared while we were up getting tea....the cooked breakfast was not as hot as it might have been and many items were not available! The staff were pleasant but gave the impression we should have been down earlier! We weren't the last either!!
Couldn't beat the location for a one night stop over, minutes walk from bus stn, and next door to train stn, excellent in-house breakfast. Wonderful Victorian decor, like walking in to a time capsule!
Very noisy, unable to open windows at night for fresh air due to the outside noise (however fans were provided in the room), recommend ear plugs as a must. A few doormen would also have been appreciated.
old building, the room is not big, parking place are not enough
