The room was approx. 8 ft wide and filled with a 4.6 or 5 ft double bed, and a bedside table on each side (why? -- this was booked as a single room!). Rather than sliding doors on the wardrobe next to the bed, it had two-foot wide hinged doors opening onto the bed in a 1.5-foot wide space, with the result that it was almost impossible to use the wardrobe.
I have no idea what the rest of the property was like -- I expect the double rooms are fine. But this room could only work as a single room with a narrower bed, one bedside table and preferably a wardrobe with sliding doors. It's not rocket science!
Single travellers always get a bad deal but this was ridiculous -- I am afraid at £69 a night, if I had been there more than one night, I would have insisted on a move.
The location of the hotel is superb, handy for the station and right on the main street, which was why I booked it. But inevitably very old-fashioned in style -- I don't mind this, but they really should try a bit harder with their room design, particularly for a single room where being on your own, you need things to be right.
