Nivky a member of staff went the extra mile & helped us relocate to your hotel over the road, On arrival 2 members of staff were outside having a disagreement, not a good welcome to the hotel! I booked in January & also invited another mature couple to stay the first night with us,we were very unhappy with the size of the room & in particular the shower/bathroom area. The facilities were not value for money.

Very clean room and the most comfortable bed i've ever slept in. The staff were always polite, friendly and helpful and the food was fabulous. My only complaint is that the internet connection was very poor and kept shutting off at its own will. Not that something like that can be helped but that was the only negative to staying here

Location to town is excellent, easy to find and overall the staff are helpful and friendly. The decor of the hotel is tired and dated, the room although clean felt dirty with stains on the walls, peeling paintwork and hairs left around the bath. That said, the bed was comfortable and facilities ok however. The hotel claimed to have wifi, but was impossible to connect to it as the signal was poor in every location we tried. The hotel website actually shows a room that is in another hotel, not the royalist.

Pretty hotel in a good location, right in the heart of the lovely town of Stow-in-the-Wold. Quaint good size room. Room overlooking the road, so there was quite a bit of traffic noise in the early morning.

The hotel was very warm and comfortable in the room. Plenty of hot water, nice clean bedding and a very comfortable bed. Adequate facilities. The breakfasts were very pleasant and nourishing, nicely served and in the better of the two restaurants. Breakfast staff particularly friendly and helpful. The building itself was full of interest and history, this was attractive too. It was not until the last morning that we learned the hotel was in receivership. This accounted for the lack of enthusiasm of some of the staff. I did not enjoy the evening meals, served in the bar restaurant, which was cold and uninviting. The service here was rather poor to say the least. Some of the furnishings/decoration was looking tired, but understandably until it is taken over, the hotel will not receive the care and attention it deserves, which is sad as it is a most interesting building with lots of history.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean. The location was good - central to Stow-on-the-Wold Decor is tired and does not warrant it's £135/night price tag. I've been to cheaper hotels that didn't look so neglected.

Room 2 The main negative - and a very significant negative - was the size of the shower/toilet room. The wash basin was the smallest I have seen in a so called family hotel & the toilet (due to have been squeezed in between a wall and the shower cubicle) could not have been negotiated by anyone of ample proportions. Quite absurd! Had we been staying for more than 1 night I would have asked for another room or a reduction in my bill. Otherwise the food was good and the service what one would expect in a low/medium prices country hotel

Breakfast Location Gilchrist & Soames toiletries Clean crisp bedding Upon arrival, we rang the bell and the receptionist arrived with a "hello" and then.....nothing! Dreadful welcome - didn't utter another word until a bell was rang in the bar (just once!) and she muttered "I can't be in two places at once" !!!! The room itself (room 5) was tiny (was this really the 'classic double' we had paid for?) and it was shabby - desperately in need of paint and a filthy carpet with both stains and dust - yeuk! Do people actually live like this? The bathroom was the size of a small cupboard with a bath made for a hobbit and a toilet which doesn't flush properly! There was no spare toilet roll and the one left for us had about 10 sheets on it! (My husband found a storage cupboard on the floor below as the receptionist can't be in 2...... Overall, it certainly was not the luxury break we were expecting and we had dinner elsewhere both nights - I can recommend The Kings Arms and The Talbot - great food at both!!!!!!

Friendly and helpful staff. Perhaps the relatively small size of this hotel contributed to this feeling of friendliness. A beautiful old building. A comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and comfortable bedroom. Very quiet and peaceful. The food was excellent. The position of the hotel was ideal - in the middle of the lovely town of Stow, and central to many attractive Cotswold villages.

The staff was friendly. I realize the hotel is very old, however that is no excuse for not being clean. The hotel is carpeted in many areas including the dining room and in some of the bathrooms. It was stained and dirty and had stretched out and looked worn, and we requested a different room when the first one had a carpeted bathroom. In the second room we were given the bathroom had linoleum and it was obvious that it had been vacuumed but not mopped. The bed was also a bit lumpy and not that comfortable.

Ideal central location . Staff helpful and friendly , room 5 a little worn out but bed very comfortable and bedding crisp and clean . Breakfast was excellent and cooked beautiful . Our room 5 had no shower and small bathroom was in need of a spruce up . The main dinning room needs either a new carpet or a stone floor putting down . The carpet was in need of a good clean .

Liked the general look of the hotel, history and central location. We also like the informal atmosphere of pub for a meal on Friday (on site) but also more formal restaurant (on site) on Saturday. Friendy staff. Our room had poor sound insulation, perhaps to be expected in very old building and we could hear a lot going on below in the bar, but the bar was not busy, so not really a problem for us. Carpets in our room not very clean. I was a bit disappointed with menu in 947ad restaraunt, not as good as sample menu advertised on web and food in pub on Friday was only okay. Wifi limited coverage, not in room.

The Royalist had plenty of atmosphere, it it very old and had that quaint feel to it, the staff were friendlyand all in all a pleasent stay. The hotel had very narrow corridors and the bedrooms were small with no draws for clothing. The car park is very tight but there is a bigger one over the road(but you have to ask about it)

The room was excellent - large and full of character The car park was tiny although this was not a problem during our stay as the hotel was not full - jacuzzi/bathroom had no proper shower- the en suite bathroom was up a small flight of stairs - not entirely convenient in the middle of the night

Great location for touring the Cotswolds; excellent food especially evening meals; unique historic character; easy pedestrian access to town centre and other pubs/facilities; pretty good value for half-board. Slightly abrupt receptionist on arrival; no draught beer in the historic bar!

Nice room The Royalist has the potential to be a really lovely place to spend a weekend. It is well located and a lovely building. Unfortunately, the staff let it down. They are largely absent - the front desk is unmanned, and no amount of ringing the bell has any effect. The pub is equally empty of customers and bar staff. And when you do see one, they are wholly unhelpful, entirely resenting even the most basic request. The exception was a friendly young woman on the breakfast service, who was being berated in public for reasons best known to her boss. Also, the food at their sister hotel over the road was shocking.

building is lovely, pleasure to stay in, nice location although quiet. ok value for money even though we got a deal on late rooms. Cups in rooms were dirty, couldnt get hold of reception on many an occasion, as not staffed at all times. Asked for more toast at breakfast as the breakfast itself was tiny, the girl looked put out! Not a very friendly place staff wise at all, it definelty lacks that friendly warm feel, so did not at all get that welcoming approach which is a great shame at such a nice building as this should go hand in hand. When we first turned up they did not have our reservation on record, but the young girl did not act friendly or helpful about this. This place employs under 20's staff, it should work on customer relations with the staff

Historic building in the heart of picturesque Stow-on-the-wold. Pretty bedroom and comfortable dining room. Staff were helpful. Good value for money. Cooked breakfast was a little dry and the decor in the hotel was a bit scruffy round the edges. A chip in the bath, scuffed wallpaper, slightly worn carpets and damp patches on the ceiling for example. The bath and sink taps in our en suite were a bit unpredictable! But for a 3 star hotel in such a lovely setting it was still good value.
