The location and staff were excellent.
Room was not ready at 2pm. There was no tea/coffee in room. No instructions for the tv.
I recently booked the hotel for a surprise 30th birthday trip for my boyfriend and it was such a great stay. We were given a room overlooking Princes Street and surrounding areas and the room was very nicely decorated, comfortable and warm. We enjoyed a drink in the bar in the evening which was relaxing and a nice way to start off our evening. The spa/pool area was nice with, again, a nice chilled relaxed environment. The staff were very attentive and helpful from check in to throughout our stay. We arrived back in our room after dinner to a lovely letter written wishing my boyfriend a happy birthday and some beautiful chocolates. I would not hesitate to stay in this wonderful hotel again, hopefully in the near future! Thank you!
No late checkout
Excellent location. Good food
Long waiting time for slow elevator.
Room was Ok albeit rather tired (eg carpet). Window didn't shut 100% and draught kept us awake all night - completely unacceptable for quality hotel in January. Staff showed little interest when advised and no offer of discount.
The staff handled our complaint very well, and we were very happy with the outcome.
The temperature in the first room was unbearably hot, and the flowers we ordered disappointing.
Location Fabulous building Style
The helpful and friendly staff, the huge room and very individual style of the hotel. Very central to both the Old and New Town.
Parking has to be in the station (to get the hotel's discount of 30% off you must pay in cash.) No free Wifi.
Central location, helpful staff, access to pool, sauna and steam room
I loved the access to the spa.
Our toilet didn't work properly and they couldn't fix it. We were not offered an alternative room or a discount. We were kept awake by the toilet filling in the night and it wouldn't always flush. Not what I expect from a 5 star hotel. I would not return.
Big room, good beds, awesome breakfast.
Spa did not let my 7 yo son in cause some age limit. Lobby was confusing.
Room and facilities
Comfy rooms, great spa/leisure facilities, friendly staff, nice bar with reasonable prices (for a hotel in central Edinburgh)
Room was so hot that, even sleeping on top of the duvet with the window open (as far as I could lift it), I was too hot! I had turned off the radiator, so I assume it's underfloor heating, and the temperature control on the wall didn't seem to work.
Great view of the city from corner bay window. Very comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast. Nice prints on the walls.
Narrow corridors from stair. Very hot when first entered room. No curtains on the bathroom! Not a very big bath in a large bathroom. Minor thing, but TV cables unsightly on central unit.
The staff were very friendly and the hotel was lovely had a nice layout.
The rooms view was looking onto the bridge and station which was the best view in the world! The room was uncomfortably warm.
Greeting; service; room - perfect; pool; location. Fantastic. Consistently excellent. Thank you.
Everything, only small point was the heating in the room was far too warm.
We had a lovely comfortable room on the top floor, with a giant bath in the bay window corner of the room. Stunning views across Edinburgh. Luxurious towels, dressing gowns and bedding. Superb dinner in the brasserie dining room.
The rooms are uncomfortably hot. My room had a small window so had very little natural light and had to have the lights on at all times of day.
Convenient for old and new town Leisure facilities a bonus
Staff were very stand offish Room was not ready at 2pm as stated in notes Service poor at breakfast - no eggs available
I loved the ambience and the dramatic richness of the hotel. It was a former newspaper building built in 1905 and remodeled in to a hotel about 14 years ago. It feels so rich and luxurious but updates are needed quite obviously. Staff was perfect!
The WIFI was the worst ever! For such an expensive 5 star hotel I would expect excellent high speed bandwidth in this day and age. Also the noise was so loud from the street (even on the 7th floor and with triple windows) that I was kept awake all night long and so tired the next day. That was our only full day to explore the City so I was dragging all day. They did move us to a quieter and larger room so we were happy second night, but only had a few hours the next morning to explore before leaving.
We arrived five hours before check in time and they allowed us into the room early without any issues. All the staff were lovely.
We would have liked to have breakfast there but it was just too expensive to even consider.
Breakfast was lovely.
The room wasn't ready for arrival. the reception staff didn't give any hotel info on arrival, no guide in rooms for mealtimes etc.
Great location and facilities. Lots of room and comfortable with a great shower. Amazing views. Little extras like a dvd player, do not disturb indicator, fridge and private hatch made it distinctive.
Free wifi didn't exist, needed to sign up at a fee. Entertainment centre had its own volume and no sky channels as indicated.
The staffs were very helpful in everything! All you have to do is ask! ;) and I love the comfy of the room too!
I was disappointed with the wifi signal. My girlfriend and I ended up using out 3G instead because it was faster even though the signal in the building is pretty limited.
