Staff were really good and friendly...... Stayed in room 805...... there was a knocking noise coming from somewhere near the door ... very annoying .... at first I thought it was someone at the door and even openned it..... The cold water tap need attention.... It drips if not turned off really forcefully.... And we couldnt get the reading lights to work.... Curtains on the larger window dosnt close fully ... therefore morning lights streams in.... Nothing major but these things would need attention.... The noise was the worst ...

Great hotel with character and the perfect location between the old and new town above the train station. Appreicated how quiet the hotel was as well. The Night Manager was a total fool.

The people working at the hotel are excellent. As well, the restaurant is excellent. The location is top notch. The room was small and the carpeting and the upholstery were very worn. For this quality of hotel I would expect that these would have been replaced long ago. As well, for the price that I paid I expected a nicer room. The bed was not a quality bed.

Very nice and comfortable room and facilities. We only stayed 2 nights, but the 2nd morning we had no hot water in the room. We had to leave early for a 3-day tour and really needed to shower, but were unable to. When we called, someone came up and looked at some things, turned the heat on full, but nothing happened. He never came back and we never did get any hot water before we had to check out. While the staff was apologetic, I was disappointed that, for as much money as we paid for the room that the hotel did nothing to compensate for the inconvenience. In fact, they had not put either of our breakfasts the previous 2 days on our room and I told them on checkout. It would have made a huge difference for them to have just said they would not charge us for the breakfasts (it was only 40 pounds total) due to the inconvenience, but they didn't do this either. We also had problems with the TV in the room -- we called to have someone come fix it but after 45 minutes, they never showed up. My husband crawled up behind the TV and was finally able to fix it. I don't know that I would stay here again; while the hotel was really lovely and very, very nice, it was a lot of money to spend and when it came down to the important customer service part that was lacking. It's easy to apologize and be really friendly, but to go the extra mile to make some small gesture that gives the customer the feeling that you understand the inconvenience is what makes the difference.

Atmosphere, welcome on arrival and general standard of room Our overall stay was very pleasant. Our only criticism was in respect o fthe comfort of the bed. While a hard bed is apparently good for you, our bed was so hard that our backs, thighs and legs ached. A bed a little softer would be appreciated!

Excellent location Architecture Comfortable bed Cleanliness Facilities On previous visits to The Scotsman we have found the service to be worthy of their five stars. However this was unfortunately not the case on this occasion. Although individually each member of staff we met was courteous, professional and helpful, they did not work well as a team, resulting in a catalogue of errors. The last of which would have resulted in the loss of an expensive bag and its contents due to the incompetency of the porters, had we not been alert to this possibility. In addition, although there is a button on the wall in the bedroom to adjust the heating, we were told by reception that these aren't connected to anything and therefore useless. The room was too hot even with the radiator turned off, so we had to open the window which made it too noisy due to passing traffic.

I stayed in Room #502 and absolutely loved it. The suite and views were amazing. The only issue I experienced was a window that was stuck open. When I asked to have it closed (due to heavy blustery winds), it was not done.

Amazingly beautiful building Booking was initially messed up as we requested a twin room. I find this often happens when booking through booking.com as often the only place you can specify a twin is in the comments section. We were deposited in the double room in front of the Telly whilst this was sorted. Eventually we got bored and told reception we were going to the bar. When we had finished our coffee we returned to reception to find the person dealing with our room had gone. Eventually we got a nice twin room. Breakfast was badly organized. After being asked if we wanted hot or cold milk with our coffee we were given neither. One of the breakfast orders was wrong and there was no cutlery to eat it with. Overall the hotel promises a lot and then fails to deliver. Would be a wonderful place if theses issues were sorted.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay . we met our grand-children who are studying there and it was really centrally located. They were able to reach us from their school within fifteen minutes and that suited us well. The facilities , staff and services were superb. We will go there any time we are in scotland and will also tell the immediate family who have to visit the student relatives. The price was right. Thank you for making my stay relaxed and enjoyable. feroza

The location was just right, just over the road from the railway station. The staff were friendly and welcoming but a little young, The room was a deluxe room with lots of space and nice bathroom, and a great veiw over the city. The swiming pool and steam room were just brillant both my wife and I will be returning very soon 9 out of 10. a welcoming gift brought to the room was a nice touch, and also a nice bottle of spring water was sent after we came back from a shoping trip this was very welcome. Breakfast was really nice and a great selection was on offer,we chose a cooked breakfast this was wonderfull. We cant wait to return soon well done to all in this wonderfull hotel. The staff were a little young on the reception desk for such a geat hotel, apart from that we had problems with the tv set in the room. These were only minor grips and the staff did put this right straight away.Only other fault was trying to find the swimming pool it is not well signed and so took some finding..

staff pleasant and helpful deluxe double romhuge rainfall shower over bath tv and sound system in room and bathroom fluffy towels n bathrobe central location comfy bed turn down service - put swimwear on radiator to dry, recleaned the room lovely spa ! very clean! pool sauna and steam room are excellent. and use of free GHDs in changing room! small bed length toes could dangle over end dust on top of mini bar cupboard where I threw my dress up to hang out of laziness - covered in dust afterwards - very high up cupboard door should have used the ample wardrobe space very much a maze !! pay attention to staff when being shown your room for lift instructions. we got lost finding the spa went to floor one and were greeted by big black doors. tried to enter spa from main market street enterence but noone answered intercom. found spa eventually. but this put me off early morning swim alone the next day as I have no sense of direction and would have got totally lost alone!

Iconic building on a grand Victorian scale but with a first class stylish bedroom, restaurant and lounge. Many water colour pictures decorate the rooms. Has a pool but didn't see it.Staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to store our bag which gave us another day in Edinburgh. Breakfast continental buffet was fresh and varied. We didn't have the cooked breakfast at an extra charge. Didn't eat in the evening so cannot comment. We had a 8th floor room and found this very quiet with good views of the city. Had a good price on the room.Full price is expensive. Location very central and a short walk from the rail station and Princess St.Would stay again if we could get the same price.

Great location for visiting Edinburgh city. We had a lovely time with our 16 month old daughter. Room service breakfast made the morning really relaxing and great for family time. She also enjoyed the indoor pool with Daddy after breakfast and the staff were really great with her. We had a superb time and would pass on our recommendation to others. Fantastic Value for money, good traditional 5 star service. No Parking on site - but ncp cnear by. £20.00 per day for parking charges.
