the staff were extremely friendly and helpful it's very dark everywhere - the bathroom was a little too dark to do your makeup properly, I wasn't able to read the menu or my book in the retaurant in the evening, the swimming pool was too dark underwater when swimming. A little extra lighting would be extremely helpful.

Geograhic situation of the hotel is really fine, specially during the August festival. One guy in charge of the luggage and of showing the room is very nice, the only one we met smiling. Restaurant is nice looking and the food /wine are good. The price during the festival period is quite too high by comparaison to the services of the hotel. Ratio/quality price is really bad. No air conditionning: the atmosphere of the rooms is quite warm and humid. We had to use a fan blowing during all the night. Some people at the reception are not sympathic at all (check out without a smile nor a word !). Bathroom is small, does not smell good, completely outside of the supposed standard of the hotel. Street is very noisy and the insulation not efficient. Parking is very far and unconvenient.Clearly not worth the price.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and minor hitches were dealt with very promptly (extra bed had been put in room). Great location, and lots of gestures towards its history as home of the Scotsman newspaper. We found the room uncomfortably hot and stuffy, even with the heat control right down.( opening the windows meant it was too noisy with traffic below).

Clean, well decorated. Staff very friendly. The rooms were very dark & the lighting inadequate. The volume on my tv wasn't working & despite 2 calls to reception, it wasn't fixed (or looked at). The drop off at the main entrance is a nightmare: busy road, bus lane and no dedicated place to pull over and unload. During my second visit, Ihad the presence of mind to call the esk to await my car arriving so the concierge could quickly unload my bags from the car before I needed to speed off.

Location was about the best feature, everything else was pretty average except the price of the rooms Thwe Scotsman does not accomidate international travelers very well. The staff do not seem emporered to help and they also did not seem to know anything about good customer service.

Staff were friendly. We were dissappointed by the room. The decor needs an upgrade and currently I would not describe it as 5 star standard. Noise from nightclub below affects many rooms on a saaturday night.

The Scotsman Hotel was fabulus from the moment we walked into the hotel the receptionarea and staff were very freindly and welcoming and this continued through out the whole stay all the staff were very polite and incredably helpful nothing was to much trouble day or night. The Scotsman is idearly located to be able to see the whole of Edinburgh without having to travel. The rooms were very clean, we were upgraded to an executive suit wich was amazing the veiws were stunning. The Spa facillaties were emaculate and provided lots of opertunites for fitness or relaxation. all in all an exeption experience. Thank you!

The porters were very helpful and friendly and were a lovely welcoming face to the hotel. Excellent Only one small complaint which would not affect my recommendation of the hotel to others and that is: no tissues in the bedroom and not enough toilet tissue in the ensuite

Great location. Very comfortable room with great views onto Princes Street. Easy walking distance to Shops.Despite great central location their was no street noise in our room which overlooked Waverly Station. Had a snack lunch in the Hotel restaurant Which was excellent and reasonably priced. Very friendly and helpful staff throughout the Hotel.

Helpful and pleasant staff, terific location for travel by train, especially if you know about the door into Market St. I found the bathroom just a little cramped, not a huge issue but the loo in particular was obstructed by a unnecessary phone on the wall

Generally good, individual rooms although we were unhappy with the first allocated room and consequently were transferred to an Editors Room. This was a fantastic upgrade with excellent views of the city. Staff were friendly and helpful. We will make a point of returning when next in Edinburgh.
