Score from 1619 reviews Very good
Loved the location, close to everything, simply in the heart of the old town. the food was great both breakfast and dinner. The building is beautiful and the staff were kind.
The room was large but the bathroom was very small and we had to "wrong" side of the building with not so much view. Also the entrance to the room was very narrow.
everything except ac.
ac in room did not allow the temperature to be turned down enough.
Location is excellent
Very slow wifi (i.e. picture in social media can't be loaded)
Traditional British hotel at a central location.
They did not wake us up on the departure day, eventhough we asked for a wake up call.
Bath in the turret
Hadn't been cleaned behind the bath
Having breakfast in bed looking out the window seeing the beautiful views
Someone was smoking in the other rooms had too get up at 4 in the morning
Ian, the concierge location large room good shower
awful carpet in the room rather slow internet with different passwords per device - that's outdated
Great location close to the High Street and within an easy walk to restaurants in the new town. As a converted newspaper building, the rooms & suites were very unique. The decor in the bar/restaurant and lobby was quite elegant. They offered some nice touches like complimentary whiskey in the room.
The mattress was not very comfortable and being on a lower floor there was some noise from the train station. Couldn't get Wi-Fi in the hotel bar.
free room upgrade, excellent views from the room, shower was excellent, good breakfast a nice stay, helpful Scottish staff.
on returning to the hotel about 2200 hrs after a night out we decided to have a nightcap in the hotel bar, most tables were taken, we sat at an empty table in the bar but were asked not to sit there as the table was being readied for breakfast by an Eastern European member of staff, this member of staff was rude and abrasive we ended up sitting in reception drinking our expensive whisky. Not what you expect from a £200 a night hotel.
The room is dark and old, so as the facilities. Not sure is that they assigned the worst room to me. The toilet keep on making noisy sound even the maintenance guy checked it. And the toilet is lecking.
The room was a generous size with an excellent view of the city. The Brasserie was very nice and the marble decor was fabulous.
Thought the room could do with a fresh carpet because it looked quite drab and worn. I thought the room would be plusher than it was- a bit disappointed.
The size of the rooms were wonderful. The bathroom nice and modern. The staff wonderfully helpful, particularly the one gentleman who helped take our bags across the street to the train station then escorted us all the way to our train car.
Nothing we didn't like although there is no AC and I guess that could be a problem at times. Also we didn't eat breakfast so can't comment on that.
Great location both for old and new towns. Helpful and friendly staff. Good breakfasts. Free use of the pool in the spa.
No air conditioning so slept with a window open despite some noise from the street.
Nothing at all was a problem to the staff. Great location right in the Heart of the City!!
Dinner menu was a little limited but food was very high standard. Please extend menu a little!!
The view was superb, the location excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. The dining room breakfast was good, I wish we'd understood the price listed on the room reservation, we paid a higher price.
The shower was very inconvenient - the glass did not keep water from the floor. A tub mat for seniors is recommended. Americans expect washcloths! The beds were too short. As two ladies we expected separate beds, not pushed apart twin beds from a king bed. Also, MY credit card FULL number was listed on all correspondence - FIX that!
Staff was extremely helpful. Room was lovely. Food good.
Only suggestion would be to add a clock next to the bed.
Poor a la carte menu, luke warm buffet style breakfast, shanby stained carpets in corridor. Not what you would expect from a hotel of this calibre
High quality, nice staff. Very friendly atmosphere and in a perfect location.
The location was great for both the old and new city. The staff was excellent. Especially the concereige team.
The Pom configurations were odd. The first room provided was totally unworkable. The second room was better but sloping roof lines made life interesting. The bathroom mirror was on a 45 degree angle so you had to look up to shave. The room was very warm and we were told could not be corrected.
Everything. The staff was superb. The room was big, with all the amenites including a Nespresso coffee machine. Breakfast was plentiful ,with a very good variety. Location was excellent, one block from rail station. Highly recommendable
Location Historic building Friendly staff
Swisscom wifi hit or miss
The Scotsman is a beautiful hotel. It is located centrally with access to the Royal Mile, Waverly train station and the castle. The room was spacious and comfortable and clean. The staff were very helpful and the service was great. Overall, I enjoyed my stay with just one caveat described below.
The hotel is located beside a pub which played very loud music until 5 am. I stayed at the hotel from Monday to Saturday and this was only a problem on the Friday night. The hotel staff were helpful but this was outside of their control. If a good night's sleep is important to you, ask for a location on the other side of the hotel away from the pub. Wifi was available but I had to sign in every 24 hours - it was a bit cumbersome.
Location...great Concierge staff...spacious rooms..
The lay out is a bit disconnected, the breakfast could definitely have been better, same buffet selection every single day....the end tables next to the bed were dusty... Not what I'd expect to see in a hotel rated as such. But, location could not have been better and concierge staff was great.
The free upgrade to a suite, the leisure facilities and the friendliness of all the staff.
The carpet in the room let it down as it was tired and wrinkled.
