A wonderful Christmas shopping trip. Staff were excellent, location perfect for shopping, Christmas market, bars and restaurants. Junior suite was lovely with fantastic views over Princes Street and the Christmas market.
That we didn't book longer!
Location and big room. Excellent hotel and will highly recommend.
Breakfast is too expensive.
central position of hotel, high standards maintained throughout our stay, proffesionalism on display from all staff, large bedrooms.really satisfied customer.
The room was nice, staff friendly
There is a nuightclub directly below the hotel, we complained and were told the music would stop around 12am, however the music went on until 4am. We complained to the manager and got discount from them but not enough to satisfy. No way is this a 5 star hotel
The spa was wonderful. Had booked a spa session for my wife as a treat she said it was one of the best she has had. Pool is great, along with the other spa facilities.
Food was not good, both restaurant and room service. Did the taste of Scotland menu only for it to be changed from what we ordered. Cod instead of game for main course but they still kept the game sauce and sides with it. With breakfast ordered next day for the room we got toast that was rubbery and cooked only on one side and soft poached eggs that one was raw and the other well done instead. Room was dusty and in need of some attention. Speakers on the walls were covered in dust and ceiling had cobwebs all over it. One speaker did not work properly. Cupboard with TV in it did not shut properly. Bed was small for a double. We did hand in a letter detailing the complaints we found to reception as we were leaving and were told the manager would contact us about it. 5 days later and still no reply. I have stayed in 4 star hotels for less money that were far cleaner and had better food than here. This was supposed to be a wonderful weekend for us and we felt let down by the experience.
The location is really good: 5 min walk from the railway station; 10 min walk from Grassmarket; 5 min walk to Princes Street and the surrounding shops. It's therefore a good base for most things. The hotel building is beautiful, full of character and well-presented. We had a champagne afternoon tea at the hotel restaurant. It was very nice, particularly the sweets. Really lovely Christmas-themed desserts. The shower in our room was nice. The bathroom was very clean. The hotel was warm, as was our room (although that was too warm, even in December!). There's a nice pool for guests, with a jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. There's an arctic shower and a tropical shower, which were good.
We stayed in a classic double room for just over £133. It was a nice room, although a little more basic to what I expected, having seen other classic double rooms on the hotel's website.I think in terms of value for money, we could have had a better room. I found the bed comfortable, although small. However, my fiancé found the bed very uncomfortable and unsupportive. I think the rooms could benefit from a better way for guests to control the temperature: our room was too hot. The service was slow for afternoon tea. Bearing in mind it was a Monday and there were approximately 9 people in there (us included), I think they could have done better in that regard. The pool was a little dark.
Service Not listening to customer requests No wifi
We liked Everything. Location. Staff were very helpful Great Gym Great Spa with lovely staff, especially Charlene. Excellent breakfasts and beautiful evening meals. All in all a perfect stay.
Nothing really. If anything could be improved it would be the chilly corridors but that is only a minor complaint. Everything else was perfect.
Quietness Comfortable bed Great spa and Massage
WIFI was a little hit and miss
The concierge remembered our names. The restaurant manager offered us an umbrella when we left as it was raining We were given a free upgrade without asking for one The pool Proximity to station Breakfast
We didn't like the disjointed suite we hadn't asked to be upgraded to, but it seemed ungrateful to say that to the lovely concierge who was proudly showing us around! Because it is a converted office it really is rather disjointed. Not difficult to get around at all, but reception is small ( though cosy) and restaurant/bar not an easy area to just hang/wait. Being charged 10% service charge on 2 cocktails at the bar??
Hotel staff were fantastic. Meals were great, Steak cooked to perfection. Location great. View from our room was lovely.
Helpful friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble, food excellent.
Everything that you expect from a very good hotel, AND it is located just across the street from Edinburgh's main train station.
Great location, super room with excellent facilities. Very spacious, all fixtures and fittings worked well. Food excellent
Great location, wonderful suite, very friendly and helpful staff - highly recommended!
Very nice hotel in a great location. Menu could have been better but on the whole good.
Fantastic hotel in centre of Edinburgh close to all major attractions - superb room, clean, well stocked bathroom, excellent restaurant, super, attentive staff,
car parking nearby not easy- ot cheap
Close to train station. Concierge staff were excellent. The pool and changing facilities were very good. High standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel.
Tropicarium in spa was out of use and apparently has been for months. Having to request body lotion (info in room advising you to contact reception or housekeeping if you would like some). Travel size hairdryer in room - would expect full size in 5* hotel. The service at breakfast was very poor
5star service. Very helpful staff who fixed my friends I.Pad, thank you. Food was delicious.
After initial problems with the room we were given, the staff were extremely understanding, attentive and helpful in arranging for us to be moved to another room. This second room was very comfortable with all facilities functional. Recommend the breakfasts and evening meals, which are taken in the North Bridge Brasserie. Would recommend this hotel for its location and ambiance even though there were some initial negatives.
The room we were first given, had a number of issues. It was too hot even with the air conditioning set to cool and the radiator off, the carpet was not fitted correctly in the entrance to the room, the bed mattress had seen better days and the kettle did not work. All of this could have been avoided if the rooms are inspected/checked on a regular basis.
Very nice, comfortable hotel. Great breakfast.
Bits of paper with long complex codes that only last 24 hours and you have to keep logging yourself in when you have been out of the hotel. An one for each device. Why not do what most sensible hotels do and put your room number and name in and it lasts for all of yiur stay.
We loved the location and the facilities
The room was too hot and could not be turned down. The bath was tiny and not good.
The bed was excellent as was the room. In a world of bad hotel beds The Scotsman shines.
The Wifi system doesn't work well and it's difficult to connect.
ask fraser the conciërge about the city. The young man is a walking history book!
