The exreme helpfulness and frienliness of the staff The cocktail bar was closed on the evening of my stay and it was impossible to have a quiet, relaxed drink in the small bar that was open due to its being filled with a bunch of raucus sanddancers.

The room was damp and smelt badly, and was in general poor repair. The shower barely functioned. The tv did not have the channels claimed for it. Staff were in general unhelpful and uninterested, with the exception of breakfast service which was very friendly. All in all this hotel would have just about been reasonable value at half the price we paid.

Location close to all amenities of South Shields town and seafront. Staff professional and friendly. No toilet roll holder on our particular bathroom wall but not a big deal.

Really nice room with excellent furniture and a lovely bed. Had a nice view of the sea. Spacious room and free wifi was a bonus. The restaurant food isn't really aimed at hotel guests so much. The menu was more of a Sunday lunch menu, and our meals weren't particularly nice when we checked in at 8.00pm.

the buffet breakfast was very nice and the service was good, the hot food was hot and tasty. staff were polite and friendly. the bed had a very hard mattress, and i mean hard and not firm. my own mattress at home is firm and i do know the difference, so we didnt have a restful sleep. this is our 2nd stay there and were in a different and it wasn't a problem then so i suppose its just 'pot luck' regarding the bed.

The location of this hotel is good for our needs, since members of our family who we were visiting live very close by. We also had Sunday lunch at the hotel, which was well cooked and value for money. Although the hotel is very clean throughout, we think the rooms are now getting a little "tired" and could do with redecorating.

Hotel a disgrace. Room smelt very strongly of paint. Staff were surly, unapologetic and even denied there was a smell! Shower did not provide hot water.

Breakfast was great, super English with everything. First class service. The rooms were dated and need an upgrading The bathroom/toilet was tatty, toilet seat chipped, extractor did not work. Room was hot, with windows open it was noisy due to ventilation unit outside window. Only a thick duvet supplied, no sheets. All in all, a not so good stay. This used to be a classy hotel years ago.

nice comfy bed (a proper double, which makes a change from two singles pushed together) Spartan. Just because it's budget doesn't mean you can't put a cheap picture or two on the walls

We arrived at the hotel on the Friday, the following day we discovered a leak in the ceiling, the rain had been extremely heavy. We reported this to reception twice and nothing was done. However on reporting a third time to a different receptionist we were offered a change of room and a discount on the bill.Apart from this incident we were very happy with staff and facillities, the hotel could do with a bit of updating but it is clean, comfortable and an ideal location. The dining room is very nice, food good and service very good. When we discovered our room had a leak from the ceiling the receptionist on duty did nothing to help, when I am staying in a hotel I expect to feel valued. However when we reported it a third time to a different receptionist she was very helpful and did everything I would have expected, she offered us a change of room and a discount for the third night. We did not change rooms as the weather had improved and the leak cleared up but it was good to have the option.
