Situated in Lerwick, Shetland's main town, the Shetland Hotel provides an ideal base for all your requirements. Lerwick is Shetland's capital, and is itself a busy cosmopolitan and charismatic harbor town full of history. Ideal for the business guest who can take advantage of the central location and well equipped conference, meeting rooms, and office suite - or for the vacation traveler, very convenient for the Holmsgarth Ferry Terminal, spacious modern bedrooms, and the Oasis Bistro offering local and international cuisine. Suite was excellent and the food was to die for. The exterior of the hotel could do with updating as very drap and looks just like a council building.

The location of the hotel, although opposite the ferry terminal, was ideal as it was a short walk or five minute drive to the city centre. The room was basic and comfortable with an above average bathroom, which was a nice bonus. The in-hotel restaurant and lounge serve a good range of food and the furnishings were appropriate for this grade of hotel. The staff were particularly helpful which made it easy for a first time visitor to the Shetland Islands. There was also an excellent selection of "What to Do in Shetland" pamphlets and information leaflets in the Reception area. The hotel looks a little tired from the outside (brown brick). There is a nice cafe which appears to form part of the hotel building (sofas, television, wi-fi) but, although there was once clearly a connecting internal door, the entrance now means leaving the hotel and walking a short distance outside to enter through a separate door, which seems quite odd. Also the hotel wi-fi only registered as 67 kps speed (although it is an incredibly reasonable £5 for five days to access) so don't expect to be uploading any photographs or streaming your favourite music. It's more than adequate for sending and receiving e-mails though.

Although we were convenient and comfortable at the Shetland standards were little better than a good 'Premier Inn', whereas the rate was almost three times as much. That said we would have no hesitation in returning.

Rooms are all clean and a reasonable size. Would recommend but only because all hotels are expensive on Shetland. Switched me to a twin room from a double without asking. Wifi has good signal but is slow. No tea spoons with cups at breakfast! Had to stir with end of large spoon. This eas same on all tables.

Good breakfast. We weren't actually there very much as we were there for a wedding so away at that mostly Was a little disappointed about the level of communication with staff as there was no one there from Shetland and sometimes found it difficult to make myself clear to staff as they did not understand what I was saying, and I could not always understand them. We found no native british speakers!!!!

Said to be disabled accessible - it is not - all doors are fire doors as would be expected - impossible for the lone traveller to get through unaided - fortunately other guests were ready to help. Floors 3-5 are not served by the lift and originally I was allocated a room on the 5th floor - this was changed to the 2nd. Will be visiting Shetland again but not staying at this hotel.

Hotel clean, reception and restaurant staff very friendly. Hotel in need of re-decorating, looks tired, although bathroom recently refited. It was winter so room window remained shut but in the summer room could be very noisy above main road and opposite ferry terminal.
