Thank you for not shouting when the smoke alarm went off while blowing drying my hair. :-)

for our needs it was in a good place it could do with a makeover breakfast was good value and dinning room is good

Lovely cheap and old hotel, basic facilities, but good staff and great room and facilities for the price.

Staff were helpful.

Floorboards creaked in my room, as did those of the people in the room next to me, to the extent they woke me with a start at 6am. Hairs in my bathroom, some wallpaper peeling off my bathroom wall, no change of sheets in my room

It's excellent position in the city centre lowerbar. It is an old hotel with parking available.Lovely squeaky floorboards everywhere.

Lack of shower/bath shampoo in the room.

Its a quirky old hotel and really OK for the money, the staff are exceptionally helpful and delightfully cheerful.

The staff could not do enough for us, very friendly. Perfect location. Breakfast was good. Bed comfy. To be honest I would stay again as it was value for money and served its purpose.

It was a little bit dated and could do with a freshen up. The wardrobe was scary to use as it looked like it was going to fall down and the other furniture in the room was stained and old.

My stay was only one night but the hotel lived up to expectations

The room was quite small but comfortable although the furniture was quite dated

The location is excellent and car parking is free if there is a space

The building is old and the rooms need updating, particularly the bathroom - doing this will probably increase the room rate

The location. Close to the port. The breakfast was good

The toilet in the shower. This gets wet when one showers. I also did not like the glass door for the toilet.

The position of the room over a quiet peaceful tree lined street. A reasonably comfortable double bed.

Lights that did not work including one without a light bulb. A toilet that would only flush when nobody nearby was flushing their loo. A lovely shower unit which only supplied cold water! A tv that did not work, etc. a hotel definitely to be avoided in future but then I usually stay in 5 star hotels and as a pensioner this is a luxury I cannot often afford. I would recommend Southampton but no way would I recommend your hotel which needs a lot of tlc!

trivial things - the bedroom wallpaper & horrible chair, general decor of the hotel was "tired"

Loved being so close to the centre of the city. Also the option of parking and not driving was great. While the hotel was in need of some overall maintenance, the aspect of being close to everything overrode any concerns for us. Wifi was great thanks.

Not much

parking on prems, comfortable bed. plenty of hot water. clean. The price did reflect what we received.

A very drunk girl made noises all night and nothing done about it. The décor. very tired. No biscuits with coffee. No brown sugar.

Everything about my four-night stay at The Star was wonderful. The location is perfect, being as it is right in the the historic town's centre, close to shops, medieval buildings, the train station and the harbour. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room comfortable.

Not a lot.... breakfast looked good

Dirty carpet.... room and ensuite in need of decoration bedding nice and clean.

Very noisy banging of doors . Sounded like the next room guests were actually in our room , very small room, hotel is in urgent need of renovation , television only worked if you banged it!! Very disappointed .

Probably quite interesting historic hotel but they could have made more of this.

I really didn't like having a see through door on the en-suite bathroom - I can see no reason why they can't at least put something on the glass to cover it. Also the towel rail fell off the wall when I went to put a towel on it. The whole hotel looked like it was interesting but really needed some care and attention.

Central location Friendly staff throughout, right down to the cheery chambermaids, awaiting our checkout.

Long and winding route layout, from reception to room. Lower room numbers are nearer.

Ideal location in the city centre

insufficient on site parking our room was quite noisy

The sheets were very clean

The windows were covered in mold. The shower cubicle could be seen from the opposite car park and there was no curtain. The bathroom smelt of mould. The TV remote did not work and was selotaped together. The parking arrangements were awkward.
