Friendly helpful staff & good food.
Nice looking old building in a leafy location, with spacious public rooms, refreshingly NOT minimalist decor and furnishings, but comfortable furniture, prints on the walls, nice window-dressing, all in good taste and there was a warmth about the place thanks to the lovely Christmas decorations; Breakfast tables were beautifully set on white pressed linen and a good and plentiful breakfast was served by an efficient and discreet perfect waitress, which gave class to the whole experience; All the hotel staff were friendly; Our room looked inviting and comfortable with a nice bathroom
Loudly creaking floorboards in the room and in the corridor, every step was accompanied by the sound of groaning, crackling wood; Double duvets on single beds that hung down touching the carpet on one side and almost touching it on the other side. Apparently they are supplied to accommodate bull elephant sized people who wouldn't find single duvets sufficient. I wonder how children would find sleeping under the weight of these over-sized duvets; We were staying only for two nights to attend a funeral and then a reception in the Strathaven Hotel. In the function room we were seated at very large circular tables, so that the people more than two seats away were more or less out of earshot, unless we shouted. All the guests at the reception occupied altogether three of these large tables that were quite far from each other. The result: we were involuntarily separated into three groups and missed out on mixing with most of the guests until we were at the door saying good byes, so that was disappointing as this occasion was the last of the "Gathering of the Clans" in this case. A different arrangement of tables could have worked better, seeing that everyone in the room were related and not strangers. Although there were 2 chairs supplied in our room, only one was a comfortable one, a small armchair, the other one was a very uncomfortable chair, that couldn't really be used to watch TV from for any length of time. We do not sit in bed, it's detrimental to the mattress!
Friendly and welcoming staff, good room and fine dinner and breakfast.
Comfy bed & great steak.
Excellent food in the Bar
Location was accessible to Glasgow and the south of. Not too expensive. Food in the bar was excellent and good value
Ordere tea at brekfast - Never arrived! Ordered Poached eggs on toast, poached eggs arrived skidding across the plate "Not on toast" There was only 4 people in the breakfast room including me, staff not exactly rushed off their feet???
A quiet - country house setting - lovely old building. Strathaven is a small tidy town with an excellent park close by for a walk. Excellent shower facilities and good bar style restaurant
My room (a single) was quite small and well used.
The staff where always most helpfull and polite,
The fact you had no lift. And the single room was at the top of two flights of stairs, Which took my independence away,
Staff were as helpful as they could be. Breakfast not bad one day but very poor on second day (Sunday Morning)
Room was overpriced, tiny , on third floor and hotel very " tired".No lift and had a lot of luggage. Not good for business travel.
Friendly and helpful staff
Very friendly and welcoming. Lovely evening meal.
Breakfast buffet was tired and stale. Bed rather firm!
The gardens are really beautiful. The staff are helpful and friendly in the main.
The hotel is in need of updating. The décor is dated and worn.
The atmosphere each member of staff made you feel your comfort was important to them and were friendly and helpfulnothing
Nothing really. Except maybe a friendlier place for the smoker not hidden in the Bushes that's all
I've used this hotel a couple of times before, and it's still a good place to stay.
Unreliable wi-fi - although to be fair, they got their IT guy in at about 9pm in an effort to solve the problem.
Friendly and welcoming staff, good room and fine dinner and breakfast. Would happily stay again and not too far to drive from the M6.
Staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful.
