The SwanHigh Street, CO10 9QA Lavenham (Show map) Wonderful, Score from 92 reviews“Lavenham is a glorious mediaeval village and The Swan is simply wonderful. We had a beautiful newly renovated room (a junior suite). The staff are marvellous and the food in the sumptuous fully beamed restaurant was lovely. Can't recommend this hotel and location highly enough.”
Sharon,
Milton Keynes
In the Suffolk countryside, between Bury St. Edmunds and Sudbury, this beautiful 15th-century building offers 4-star accommodations and a restaurant with 2 AA Rosettes for its fine food. Lavenham is one of the best-preserved Tudor villages in Britain, and The Swan is perhaps one of England's finest historic hotels. The building has been carefully restored and beautifully renovated, with ancient oak beams, large open fireplaces and a minstrel gallery. Decorated in warm, relaxing colors, the rooms with private bathrooms combine historic features with modern facilities. Each includes a flat-screen plasma TV and facilities for making tea and coffee. The Swan serves modern British cuisine, made using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Guests can dine in the informal Garden Lounge and historic Old Bar. Outdoor dining is possible on the grounds, as well as fine dining in the Gallery Restaurant. Hotel Rooms: 45

Beautiful medieval building, with nooks and crannies, small stairs and the famous Minstrels Gallery in the dining room.Friendly staff and cannot do too much for you - 60% of vstaff were foreign girls experiencing England.Breakfast varied and not buffet, which made a pleasant change! We ate in the brasserie the first night and food was hot and served well. We did not eat in the dining room. Some of the breakfast food was not as hot as we like it and the coffee was disappointingly bland for a hotel of this standard The car park was small and we had to leave our car the second night in the road..

We loved the building and comfort and it had a really homely feeling it was warm and cozy. The staff were helpful and friendly with a smile. The breakfast was so good !! The long wait for Dinner even though the restaurant was not busy or full. The dinning room staff were not attentive enough during service. We would of liked a larger room with more natural light - next time we would go for a suite.

There is not really much to say about the Swan apart from absolute brilliance its the best hotel we have ever stayed in and will certainly return as soon as possible and we highly reccommend it to all our family and friends.

It was very comfortably, enjoyable one night break. Staff were attentive and friendly but not in your face. Food was excellent, with great service. Would definitely go back for another enjoyable short break.

Simply fabulous location and possibly the most captivating hotel we have ever visited. The staff were all so welcoming and our room cosy and beautifully appointed with genuine old world charm. The dining room must be seen to be believed and the log fires were wonderfully. Full marks and more we will be back next year. Jan and Ian Robinson

Nice atmosphere. Very authentic extensions 'in the style of'. Stunning medeival setting in a charming old town. Food so so! Breakfast toast and coffee -cold. Eggs Benedict muffin stale. Dinner menu much too nouveau cuisine - so old hat now. Better more plain food in keeping with the medeival atmosphere. I had a bit of a problem choosing a real meat dish. What happened to beef, lamb and pork?

From the moment of our arrival the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable, even surprising my husband on his birthday. The location of the hotel in a mediaeval town is fascinating and the surrounding area is perfect for rural walking or market town visiting.

The situation and the very long interesting history The buildings themselves are very extensive and have an amazing history . The ambience is unbelievable The Suffolk room and Wool hall are unique in their structure, character, history and longevity. Full marks to the Swan for restoring and keeping the rooms in such an excellent standard. The Airmans bar has much of interest and again an interestig history with us Forces The Dining hall is an amazing building and it is hard to believe that it was constructed only some 60 years ago.Again the Swan must be congratulated for undertaking such a historic looking structure Would really like to revisit again knowing it is such a welcoming, friendly Hotel. The only thing was finding ones way around to and from the bedroom to the facilities etc. We would have liked to have a plan or sketch map of the of the whole hotel, showing dining areas, recepton, rooms, Wool Hall Suffolk Room, garden and outside sitting area(for the summer)

Very comfortable and staff very friendly. Felt for room standard/facilities £150-£180 more appropriate rate rather than £200 we had to pay.

Looking around the Town The fact that we where unable to book the restaurant when we arrived as they where fully booked with non residents which we found unusual and disapointing, it would appear that non residents take priority?

The hotel was in a good location and they building is lovely. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful. They lost our breakfast order & left us sitting for almost an hour until we asked what was going on. They were very apologetic though so I expect this kind of thing is rare.

Still has many attractive features ( first stay was in 1950s). Please do not "condense" the interior any more! I visit Suffolk for old family connections and try to stay at the Swan when my wife can come as well. Another pleasant memory, but next time we should stay for at least 2 nights. Think of a special attractive rate for mid week stays..Stanley Simpson . Only 1 disabled space, but we were lucky a member of the public de cided to drive out as we wished to park. The general lighting in the room was too low and the bedside lamps were not bright enough to read in bed if we had wanted to do so.
