The receptionist during the day and the gentleman covering the reception during the night were both extremely friendly and welcoming. The rooms were very comfortable, and spacious and homely. I was informed that during the night when the reception was closed, I must go to the bar entrance to collect my key to return to my room, however we were late back and the bar was closed, which I was not informed of. Hence I was unsure of how to re-access the hotel. Luckily there was a gentleman at reception who allowed me back in the hotel, however I am unsure as to whether or not the man would be there all night?

The staff were exceptionally helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Kind of made up for the bad bits! The breakfast was pretty good too as it was cooked as asked and there was lots of it! The hotel was pretty dated and we could hear every noise from the adjoining room. The bed was pretty uncomfortable and the bathroom wasn't the greatest.

We were apprehensive after reading the reviews but could not disagree more with the majority! Room was comfortable with modern tv, clean as well. Breakfast was good - both full english and continental - and the staff were friendly. You get what you pay for and we were very pleased. Getting lost on the way!

Though it looks old, it was very clean and cosy. Liked the fact that room was supplied with enough coffee/hot chocolate sachets for my one night stay. My one little complaint would be that walls seemed to be thin, so noises from next room were heard easily. That's nit-picking though.

Apart from very helpful staff not much else. Guest staying on upper floor played loud music late into the night and early morning. No writing desk in room. No external light at the entrance of guest rooms in annex where I stayed.

The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one. The breafast was really good with unlimited buffet too. Wi Fi would be good. Most people have their own mobile devices these days and Wi Fi would enable them to access the Internet.

The friendliness of the staff, their local knowledge and their competence. For the first time since I can remember I managed to sleep immediately in a bed which wasn't my own. I do not normally indulge in an English breakfast, but I did at this hotel and it wins my award for the best I have sampled at any time in my life. Just people allowing doors to slam. But that is society of today.

We stayed at the hotel very last minute as we were let down by another local hotel. Bookings.com was quick and easy. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, with own bathroom, clean towels and tea and coffee facilities, which was fab. The hotel was close to Manchester Academy for us to drive there - so we were thrilled. Lovely hotel and lovely staff ... And fantastic price @ £29 for the night with free parking ... Thank you Annie and Mark from Caerphilly, South Wales.

Handy location with free parking. I made a mistake in not booking a reliable brand for this trip with guests . Hotel was embarrassingly grotty, especially in communal areas where dirty carpets are patched up with duct tape. One bedroom smelt bad, two were small and window wouldn't close in the third. Loose tiles on bathroom floor, uncontrollable tv with wrong remote, thin walls so I could hear everything in next door room. And there's an ignominious trip through cellar bar dive for out of hours access. Don't expect any help - receptionist just trots out party line from comfort of her chair.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel was a very good price. Excellent facilities in the room. It was an old fashioned building but lovely. There was no restaurant in the hotel and only take-aways near by.

We book the hotel when going to Old Trafford for the football. Hardly the most luxurious hotel but the staff and the atmosphere are magnificent.

Very near to tram station Flooring on the stair, corridor and room though looked well carpeted, but very noisy as you walk on it. Creeping sounds from lifted wood planks underneath the carpet breakfast so so only... Not worth to pay for additional gbp7. Mattress is very old... Sunk in as you sleep on it

Not much good to say about this hotel. Fawlty Towers must have been better. Location was good as expected. There was no heating and the additional electric heater provided had too short a cable to plug in safely. The restaurant was closed so the bar staff ordered in takeaway food from around the corner. The main doors were locked at 8 and entrance was through the cellar bar.
