Friendly staff The bed was too small, only 4 foot 6. It was supposed to be a classic double room! There was hair on the carpet. The wallpaper by the bed was peeling off. The room was over priced at £155 with no breakfast. A RIP OFF

For a tourist, the hotel is conveniently located for both sightseeing and shopping. The view onto Winchester Cathedral was especially nice.

Modern, well-appointed Accor group hotel in the Mercure brand. Everything as expected - staff were friendly and helpful, facilities up to standard. The hotel is right on the edge of the Cathedral close, and my room, which was spacious and comfortable, had a wonderful view of the Cathedral itself. Parking on site, with overflow to adjacent public car park (I was fortunate to find a space).

The staff were very professional and friendly. Close to shops and restaurants in Winchester. Ten minute walk from railway station. Although close to amenities the hotel is in an isolated narrow street which is dimly lit at night. Not good for walking to and from hotel when dark!

The Mercure Wessex was a great place to stay, the staff were friendly and very helpful, breakfast was fantastic and the location was perfect for a city break to Winchester as it is right in the centre of everything. Our room was big for a double classic and very comfortable and clean and we had a view of Winchester Cathedral from our window! Best hotel we have stayed at in UK. would recommend to anyone. Fab!!! thank you

This hotel is centrally placed for the cathedral, musuems, galleries and all points of interest in the city. Shops and restaurants are close. There is plenty of choice at breakfast. The hotel is comfortable, nicely decorated and well-furnished. We stay at Winchester often and the Wessex usually provides the best value for money for a three-night stay. I guess it's time to update the rather conventional bath and shower fittings in favour of walk-in wetrooms. As we are getting less mobile, these would be more helpful to us than high-sided baths. Everybody can use a wetroom.

It is in a fantastic location right next to the cathedral. The car park is very small and was full, this was annoying as we were travelling with a baby and had a lot of luggage and then had to pay parking. We asked for breakfast in our room this was half an hour late and we had to call for missing bits to our breakfast. The hotel lift is tiny especially with bags and a baby and it is not a pushchair/ wheelchair friendly hotel with a lot of stairs.

The position of the Wessex cannot be beaten if you want to be in the centre of Winchester. We paid a little extra for a room with a view of the Minster and we were not disappointed. The hotel was signposted discretely and we drove straight to it.Staff were efficient and friendly and food in the hotel restaurant was very good.

Rooms and general facilities were as expected ( including fridge) Views exceptional. Very quiet and relaxing . Overpriced bar facilities at our party.. Although the bar prices were reduced during the evening I would normally expect ( having worked in the trade) double price plus vat on drinks but to my knowledge this was not the case and as the party was pre-arranged /private one would have expected some consideration to pricing.
