I think the hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the location was great. The rooms were clean and well presented. I was treated with respect and consideration. They even refunded my meal because it took a while to arrive which was a really great jesture on their part and one which I did not expect. I think the breakfast at £15.50, the parking at £8 per day and the use of internet at £4 per hour were vastly over priced and obviously aimed at a tourist market. The lighting in the rooms wasnt that great and I had a particular problem with the taps in my room which were stiff and very hard to turn off.

Friendly staff The bed was too small, only 4 foot 6. It was supposed to be a classic double room! There was hair on the carpet. The wallpaper by the bed was peeling off. The room was over priced at £155 with no breakfast. A RIP OFF

I have stayed in many hotels this years, mostly 5 star, and this was by far the best. The staff went above and beyond, the room was a good size with a cathedral view, the location was perfect, right in the centre of the city but away from the main road and any noise. I can't recommend it enough, the best place I have stayed. I would love to visit there again soon.

The hotel was perfectly located to the shops & bars and is situated directly next to the cathedral. We were lucky to view the cathedral from our window. Would recommend eating out at the old vine in great minster street, the food was divine, and very good service. Will definatly be returning to Mercure Wessex Winchester again.

Staff were very professional and friendly - the best hotel staff I have encountered to date. Room was clean and comfortable, and had everything you might need. Attention to detail did not go unmissed. My only regret is that I only stayed one night! Water wasn't very hot in the morning, and the pressure was a little low in the shower. Although room was quite soundproof, the extractor fan and heating system was quite noisy, and could disturb light sleepers.

location to the city centre - a very tired 1964 build hotel with nothing of note - no other good points - staff have poor leadership and the hotel manager was never seen on 3 days despite a complaint about the dirty room - nothing else - see below for reasons. the negative points are listed: 1. room was dirty and unclean 2. bedsheets old and ripped 3. bathroom really dirty and not cleaned 4. electrical faulty light over bath - serious health hazard 5. dirty resturant - christmas decorations lying about 6. not heard of taoast rackes for breakfast 7. complaint made and refund of £100 plus not charged 8. manager did not appear once in 3 day stay despite complaint made first day. 9 deputy manager did best she - laura - could do in the circumstances 10. a very non customer friendly hotel - not customer focused.

The room had everything you needed. Iron, hairdryer, dressing gowns etc etc. It was nice and quiet and very clean. Parking was reasonable. The reception staff had limited local knowledge, couldn't really answer a couple of questions I had.

Location was brilliant. Room was adequate and comfortable. Staff were adept and helpful. Offer price meant that 'room only' for £59 was a good value deal. A shortage of parking. We ordered room service, but a £5 tray charge is far too steep. The cost of dinner initially seemed reasonable, but the portions were small and the quality of food was only just acceptable, as a result we felt it was vastly overriced. We won't be eating in again.

Location is good Rooms on the small side, a bit worse for wear ( bathroom fittings worn, hard to use, furniture missing handles and broken drawer etc. ) Parking @£8 overnight. Lack of atmosphere in bar/restaurant. Geting Bill set out in a very complicated way, and not as discussed. Staff not particularly friendly

The hotel is in a great location right next to the cathedral. The main high street is on its doorstep with a very good selection of high street stores and many individual shops. The town is very pretty with a lovely old world feel. The staff in the hotel were very good and the room was well furnished and with a fridge which is always useful. We intend to return in the summer for a break to have another look at this lovely city and stay in this hotel again.

The location was perfect for us with a view from our room direct onto the Cathedral. The hotel car park is far too small for the hotel plus an £8.00 per night charge which we thought was pricey, other central car parks were full and the closest one with spaces is about 5 miles away ! The room was comfy and clean although the bathroom was in need of decor attention !

We had a great time. The room was just beautiful, over-looking the cathedral and was worth the extra £10 ! Parking and location were excellent as was the service. Wouldn't hesitate in reccommending it to family and friends. Although the cleanliness of the room was good, I fely that the sink could have done with a scrub and a touch of bleach !!
