The Westleton CrownThe Street, Nr. Southwold, IP17 3AD Westleton (Show map) Very good, Score from 99 reviews“A place to totally chill-out. Beautiful part of the Suffolk coastline. The whole experience was a pleasure, from the moment we arrived at the reception the staff were friendly and polite. Into the bar and the service was the same with a great knowledge of the beers and whiskeys on sale and a willingness to chat and make you feel right at home. The atmosphere in the bar area and the relax areas was great with their open log fires and tasteful decor. The evening meals although a bit on the pricey side were excellent quality along with the full English breakfast in the morning. Our room with on-suite was comfortable and clean and I found the beds very easy to sleep on! The village itself is a great location with its quant cottages, thatched church opposite the hotel, green, pond and local pub. There are great walks into the countryside just a few minutes stroll from the hotel, once there absolute peace and silence apart from the odd wood chopping. Even the local villagers had time to stop and chat. A very good hotel, in an excellent location.

Extremely pleasant staff Arrived late as planned and agreed with hotel at 2145 but late meal was not served over reasonable period of time for tired people wanting to turn in - there were other parties making life busy for staff but this was the impact it had on us - meal itself good. Room (Robin) hot at night with no ventilation control

Location, very pleasant staff at a nicely developed site. Reasonable value for money. The standard of the food did not match that of the hotel generally and was considered rather expensive for what was on offer.

We liked the location and the fact that it was an old coaching in with log fires and a nice atmosphere in the bar, parlour area. Our room in an annexe was comfortable and clean. Our service for our dinner on sat night (we were only thee one night) was very poor indeed. We waited over an hour for our main course. It was very good when it arrived but it was far too long to wait. Other guests were also waiting a very long time. The Crown was extremely under- staffed and considering they must have known the numbers coming in for dinner it was not good enough. We were given a free pudding as we did mention it to the one poor waitress who was having to do far too much. Unfortunately for that reason we will not return which is a shame as the location for walking on nearby beaches is superb.

It was easy to book on line and discounted rate made us choose them rather than a seaside location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean. Food in restaurant was very nice but could have done with another vegetarian option.

A reasonably comfortable hotel that happened to be located conveniently for my particular business needs on the day. I booked on line and secured a fixed price arrangement, although at checkout the bill presented reflected what the receptionist advised was a room upgrade amounting to an uplift of over 30%. When challenged on the basis that there had been nothing said to me at check in or at any stage until check out on this unsolicitored change, the bill was amended to the amount on the booking. Fortunately my bill included nothing other than the bed and breakfast charge, so the increase was easily spotted.

We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and wanted a quiet weekend away. The hotel fitted our needs. They were wonderful and had upgraded us to a best room. Everything was spotless and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Food to die for. Good selection of wines. Would stay again.

Lovely village location, hotel had a warm friendly pub feeling (log fires and traditional) but the rooms are of a 1st. Class hotel, modern and well designed. Quality of food was very good. Ideal for a weekend re-charge of batteries.

Village location. Comfortable, friendly. Reasonable beer selection, but the wines available were not great For example there were no light reds; e.g Beaujolais, Valpolicella, Dolcetto. Wines overpriced for the quality available e.g. Stoneburn Sauvignon and almost £50 for a Ch. Musar - no chance. Food goodish but not great - overpriced. e.g. £9 for a very modest cheeseboard that had been cut and sat in the fridge since the day before. Utterly tasteless. Overall Ok but overpriced for the quality of rooms, food and drink. PS; rooms could do with better sound insulation

Lovely stay in a lovely village near attractive coasrline and open country. Excellent food and vey comfortable room - excellent pillows!. Only reservation was that service at dinner (Wednesday) was quite slow and, while very friendly and willing, was not particularly accomplished. But so what? We had a lovely stay thank you. We are sorry it was only one night.

Location, style and comfort of room, filter coffee in room. We attended a wedding service in Westleton and checked in at the Crown around 3.30 am. No food available in the afternoon or sandwiches in the bar, food was only available after 6.30. Walking across car park to main building, from room

Lovely building, nice breakfast, friendly staff, good shower and a nice location. Our room was on the main road and rather noisy - a definate downside. It would have been nice to have our own coffee at breakfast, rather than having to keep on asking for another cup. Breakfast seemed a bit shambolic and we kept on having to ask for things - don't expect that when you're paying around £100 a night. There was no information in the room about the area or the hotel itself, which we have found useful and interesting in other places.

Lovely villAge location in lovely countryside. Staff were very friendly. Rooms were comfortable . Toiletries and bathroom fixtures of good standard. Lovely restaurant and well designed. The room was nicely decorated and cosy. The bed was like an ikea bed, too short and narrow, it let the room down. Food was good but slightly pricey for the standard. Dining chairs uncomfortable. No option of a room with shower....bath not conducive to a bad back. Personally found the receptionists cleavage off putting, though she was friendly and helpful...would look more professional if she was smarter. Breakfast was bland but looked nice. Tv in bedroom had poor reception. Room was pretty basic for the price.

A pleasing mix of old-world coaching inn combined with tastefully developed new rooms and facilities. The claim, when arriving on the first late afternoon, that "if you would like to eat with us tonight the restaurant is getting booked up quite quickly", which in the event it patently was not!!

Comfortable bed. Large bathroom with both bath and shower. Interesting building with very pleasant dining room, bar, sitting area and further eating area. Staff were very friendly. Lighting in the bathroom could have been better if there had been a light in the washbasin/mirror area. The food and wines were good but very pricey and by Sunday evening, there wasn't much to choose from on the specials list. Although the staff were very friendly, they were all young, so possibly didn't have the experience or maybe authority to respond adequately when a problem arose. I ordered an item from the starters, which could also be ordered as a main course portion. When it came, I asked the waiter to check that I had been given the main course portion. He confirmed that I had and was apologetic that it was so small but didn't offer to do anything about it, when it was clear that I was not satisfied. I found that very disappointing.

“Food (taste and portion size). Room: clean, comfortable, tasteful. Atmosphere: very pleasant. Breakfast: fabulous, big hand to the chef (cheese and ham omelette). Set in a very tranquil and not overly tourist location. Excellent balance between tourism and local heritage. Cosy but professional, well done!” Samantha, Colchester |
