Big room, good breakfast
Bathroom needed updating
Cosy atmosphere Friendly staff
our bathroom was not very clean they could do with a few more staff
The country inn atmosphere.
the bed in room 10 slopes back towards the head board.
Bed was comfortable and room was spaciuos
Hot water took 10 minutes to get to temperature and had to wedge window closed with a teaspoon and brochure as catch was broken. Was 0 degrees that night! Told staff but no offer of compensation...unlikely to stay again
Warm rooms, olde world feeling, staff very friendly, great location. Had a great time.Stayed for two nights. Great walking location. Excellent value for the money.
Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Very rowdy behaviour in courtyard below bedroom window. The police were called by hotel staff. It is apparently the worst Friday in the year for office parties . Not a killjoy but this was way beyond high spirits. Felt sorry for staff trying deal with this.
The character of the building and its ambience. Also, either it is very understaffed or the staff are simply working too hard. The young lady on reception in the evening was lovely & helpful, she also worked in and around the bar, then again she was serving at breakfast. I thought she might have a twin at one point. I wish I had staff that worked so hard. The gents in the bar worked equally hard, serving drinks and food till 12 midnight! Breakfast was also excellent.
Tiny tiny shower room. For £80 we expected at least a bath. The shower room was basically awful. Tiny,as I said before, but also crusted with lime scale, bits missing from shower tray, tiny window and generally in need of 100% refurb. The room was fine, though had the feeling of being a bit dated and also in need of a very good clean, the skirting boards for example were grubby. The fact the bat shut at 12 to residents was disappointing as we were having our works do there & would have like to be informed prior to booking the bar closed at this time, then we could have gone to a pub instead. The main toilets were not working, so had to use the ones in the restaurant, which is fine, but I tripped on a shallow unlabelled step and fell right over, finding the next day to have bruises all over both knees and very sore. I should have complained the day after but just wanted to get home to be honest. Health and safety beware. The view from our room, if you can call it that was of fag buts and old plastic bottles left out the back of the kitchen, this plus noise from same kept us awake and then woke us up early in the morning!
Great , staff. Clean , comfortable bed.
No water in the room. Bits of stuff floating in my bath! The menu was terrible . If I had known , I would have eaten else where , so sad to see how far standards have dropped. What happened! The whole place looks tired , In need of some tender loving care. I have to say , breakfast was great. I have so many happy memories of the white heart, I don't want to give up on you!
Very historic building oozing character loved the guild room, must see. The staff were excellent and dealt with questions professional and with the upmost care, whilst at a busy time. Incredibly charming overall would highly recommend and stay again.
There was nothing not to like although the fry up wasn't outstanding it still filled a gap. The other breakfast choices where such as tiptree jam very nice Dinner was very satisfying all the same
Setting, atmosphere, quiet, friendly, old fashioned environment, comfortable bed, tea/coffe making facility in room.
It seemed a bit disorganised. Breakfast was ok, but a bit basic. The full English had no mushrooms or black pudding on offer :-( Bathroom offers one poor quality soap dispenser only - seemed a bit mean. Overall a bit overpriced for what you get and what it is, but I would return.
Surroundings in small town Old beams and decor Quiet Price - £110 for two nights inc. breakfast
Bed a bit small Bathroom cramped Stiflingly warm even with window open No cooked breakfast first morning (maintenance in kitchen)
An interesting old timbered building in a lovely village. For the price it's good value. Friendly staff and proper food at sensible prices. Good ale too.
Lovely old building in a good situation
Rooms need redecorating
Staff were all friendly. Allows pets. Good central location.
Could be a lovely hotel but is in serious need of some refurbishment. The furniture in the room was looking very tired and did not match; the tiles in the bathroom needed regrouting and there was mould on the shower curtain.
Gorgeous four poster bed. Hotel is full of character. Good location. Friendly staff. Nice bar and bar meals..
Personally the breakfast...bacon looked like it needed cooking alot longer..jelly fried egg...and not much toast or coffee...but saying that my hubby thought it was ok.
We liked the old charm from the building and the location and the food was very nice , also the Italian waiter was one of the best and looked after all of his customers but seemed overworked
The room was very noisy and the bed was the most uncomfortable and I've ever slept in ... I left with a headache and feeling drained from being up all night
Hotel was ok, clean
No view from window, noisy because of party, expensive for what it is, breakfast was cold
Staff were friendly. Did sleep well once I got off to sleep
I could hear man in next room snoring. Had to look for staff in morning to get breakfast ordered. Breakfast wasn't great and at 9.30 orange juiced had run out.
Enjoyed the atmosphere and the old style of the pub. The food was good value for money.
The long wait to be checked in as the pub was understaffed. Felt sorry for the lady who had to work on recieption and the bar and serve food. And the hotel requires a fresh coat of paint.
Internally and externally shabby. Under staffed but could not complain about the staff. The bar staff were also checking I'n and out people. This ment there always was a long wait at the bar for food or drinks
Plenty of space in the bedroom
convenient location for where we wanted to be
It was ok
It was ok
We think it unfair that so few staff have to deal with many customers. Despite that, it was a very good stay
Although the staff were polite and friendly as they could be we found the room we had was generally clean but the windows, particularly the frames, were quite dirty, also there was flaking paint and some grubiness in the bathroom, we couldn't use the bath or shower due to our physical disabilities .
