Location...old ....nice bar and bar meals Absolutely no mobile signal within or ouitside the hotel. (Vodafone) The staff new about this but no one had considered that perhaps it would be a good idea to place a public payphone somewhere in the lobby. Not a big deal but aggravating after a long journey and when you want to ring home.

A nice no nonsense comfortable hotel. Fixtures and fittings a bit old and tired but this didn't worry me in the slightest. However if I was paying full rack rate it would be far more relevant! Perhaps more could be made of the historical aspect of the hotel to make a feature of the age related idiosyncracies rather than trying to cover them over. No information on pricing of breakfast.

The old inn style, with beams, rickety flooring/wall added to the attraction of the place. Food was good value for money and with breakfast included in the price of the room, this was great value for money. Noise from the toilet system went on for a long time, but on the whole nothing to complain about

We found this charming 16C hotel to be welcoming, excellent value and clean. The English breakfast was homecooked and there were plenty of alternatives. The restaurant in the evening, although full, provided good quality service and food. The menu was varied, supplemented with specials on the chalk board. The lunch menu was also excellent value for money. Overall, we found the whole experience relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable.

Had a meal, did some shopping, and a few drinks, relaxed The fact that even though we had a table booked, priority was given to a large party, and we ended up squeezed onto a very small table

WaS not there long enough to form oppinion The fact that I had to pay for an internet that was never used just because it was there. There was no mention of having to pay for a service that I would not be using. This extra doubled the cost of the hotel.

The dirty and dilapidated accommodation (the bathroom floor and windows were especially filthy), the poor lighting, the constantly-on heated towel rail in the bathroom making the adjacent bedroom too hot, the missing secondary glazing on the bedroom window resulting in excessive traffic noise, the dirty and upside down net curtain over the window, the shower head too low and unable to be adjusted, the shower tap liable to fall off the wall, the wobbly toilet roll holders, the pervading strange smell, the obviously overworked and unmotivated staff, above all the very poor value for money (even after the price reduction allowed following my complaints).

As Coggeshall has a bypass the village is very quiet and my room at the back of the hotel although overlooking the car park was still quiet. It was a lovely sunny room and very airy. The village itself is very interesting and lovely to stroll around in the evening. The hotel location is ideal for the coast, towns and countryside. The food in the bar and restaurant was very good and the staff are very friendly. The only thing I would comment on is the staffing levels which seem to be at a minimum. I had to wait some time to register when I arrived as the only member of staff was serving in the bar. Likewise when I left I had to wait at reception to check out whilst the member of staff was again serving in the bar. That said the staff were very friendly.
