Nice and cheap. Free cereal, toast and juice in the morning, the lady serving breakfast was lovely. Pub next door to hotel very convienient for a few end of day drinks. Easy access to the college, university and a local Asda. Have rebooked for Feb. This is not the ritz but what do you expect for bargain basement prices.

I liked this hotel - very friendly staff, the location is 30 minutes from city centre on foot or 5 min by bus. Though furniture and bath equipment are not new, I felt comfortable and would stay there again when in Darlo. Merry Christmas!

- Not costed too much with an early reservation. I believe it is one of the cheapest hotels in UK. - Friendly stuff - Just recommended for cost concerned people. - No hotel Wi-Fi at rooms. I asked reception to fix Wi-Fi 2 times. I was always told, it would be sorted "tomorrow". I didn't ask anymore after 2 days. The reception told me to use an unsecured WiFi, named cloud :) - The hair dryer was working, but there were hose between the handset, and dryer body bolted on the wall :) ,

Friendly staff, reasonable price & good location. The bed couldn't have been more uncomfortable and lack of double glazing means your in for a noisy night.

By comparison with other budget hotels the Harrowgate Hill Logde is excellent. The room was clean and modern and the hotel was in a good, well kept state, not always the case with budget hotels. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Neither I or my partner slept very well, the bed and bedding were not the most comfortable and the room became uncomforatably hot. We were surprised to have breakfast included but do not be misled by the term "continental breakfast" it was the very basic of breakfast, cheap cornflakes, toast and tea /coffee & orange juice and despite there only being 4 of us in the room we waited almost 10 minutes to receive our toast!

Clean room, friendly staff, value for money. Didn't have a problem with the comfort of the bed as other reviews have suggested. Furniture in the room not well maintained and looks dated. Tiles missing in the bathroom. Slightly defective door lock.

The hotel pushes back to the 80's and its dated rooms could do with a refurbishment which is well and truly needed. The breakfast is pretty grim and very basic. Continental breakfast here comprises of white toast, tea/coffee and cornflakes, and nothing else. Not really my idea of a continental.

At the online price of £25 for a double room (normal price is around £40) I was worried that it might be a hovel. Some tripadvisor reviews I subsequently read made me even more worried. However my fears were groundless. Ok the decor and furniture is dated and it's by no means anything other than a budget hotel, but my room was large, clean, warm, comfortable and quiet. Believe me I've stayed in places at £100 per night and more where I've wanted to walk out after one night. This place was relaxing. Ok I had a room facing the car park at the back rather than the main road, but in any case it's well set back from the road at the front and the double glazing is excellent. There's no restaurant in the evenings but it's next door to a large pub which is part of the group and on a main road full of restaurants and takeaways. It's about 2 miles into Darlington town centre so a car or get a cab is necessary (or a bus - it's on the main road into Darlington). I'd recommend it as a budget alternative in an area where hotel prices are still not as competitive as they should be.

I have used the Harrogate Hill Lodge before and it is very convenient in terms of location to visit my family. It is walking distance to their home. The staff are usually friendly on the reception desk and try to accomodate your needs. However the poor resources available to them must make this difficult and quite demoralising. Having stayed at the Harrogate Hill Lodge many times over the last few years I am aware that it is a budget hotel and so was not expecting luxuxry. Over the last year the hotel has stated that a refurbishment is in process, However there were no signs of this. In fact the hotel has gone very much down hill. The room was not clean and in particular the bathroom where there was mould all around the bath, plus the floor was dirty and in particular the bottom of the toilet basin was stained. Towels were ripped and torn and stictched together. The raggiest and grubbiest I have ever seen in a hotel. We booked two rooms and one of the beds in my son's room was broken and sank in the middle. We had to ask for toilet rolls and tea and coffe on the second day. Unfortunately despite its convenience we made a family decision never to stay there again. Regards Maggie Conlon

Location, due to having family living in the area. Pub adjacent offering food. Great addition since my last stay was the breakfast room. Very clean and modern and good service. Rooms need updating, curtain rail hanging out of wall was dangerous. Furniture in room was old and worn. Mattress was the worst i have ever slept on, very uncomfortable. Bathroom needs major makeover.
