I stayed because I was visiting friends in centre parcs. The place is ok if u take the price out of it. Clean. Comfy beds. Good breakfast. Nice lady. But right next to motorway. Chipboard on Walls. No bar as advertised. Facilities were unwelcoming but that does not refer to the lady of house. She was nice. But we felt robbed. Lacked personality and facilities for this price. Far too expensive in bad location. There are much nicer places in Cumbria for far less.

This was a small guest house and the owner was very helpful - bboking a restaurant for us when the local one was unavailable. the cooked breakfast was excellent. Rather too close to the M6 motorway.

Lovely clean place with friendly staff and an excellent breakfast. I stayed with 4 family members (all adults) and all rooms were nice, including the small single. Good location for access from the south, mountain walking and visiting Ullswater. The shower in room 3 was faulty and unusable - alternating between boiling and freezing.

Pleasant, spacious house with lovely views over fields into the distance. Genuine friendly welcome. Attentive and even offered assistance without being asked, for example the use of a dryer rack for my walking clothes, and checked and wrote bus times down. Happy to give advice on local walks and places pf interest. Tourist information includes the use of the four Lake District Landranger OS maps. TV/Radio, and tea making in the room. Plenty of power points for recharging camera and mobile batteries. English breakfast out of the ordinary: plentiful, wholesome, well cooked food. Certainly enough for hungry walkers. The George & Dragon opposite is lovely, but pricey, though it's good for a touch of indulgent luxury. Beer at the bar at roughly pub prices. If you have no car, the local bus service is a bit limiting. 10 to 15 minutes into Penrith. The taxi into Penrith costs about £7. But it's a pleasant 50-minute walk. Spacious bathroom, but watch out for the low beam.

Lovely room. Comfy bed. Relaxing neutral decor. Great view. Excellent breakfast. Very helpful owner. Good location for Penrith, Carlisle but country feel. Lots of lovely countryside in the area. No wi-fi offered, assumed not available.

We stayed here to break our journey from the South of England to Scotland, and vice versa. There was a very warm welcome for us. The room was spotlessly clean as was the en-suite bathroom; I appreciated the Bayliss and Harding lavender handwash. Bed very comfortable indeed. Enjoyed the well cooked traditional English breakfast. Lovely garden. Fresh flowers in the breakfast room and on the landing. The proprietor really seems to care about the comfort of guests. How sad that a 300 year old house now has plastic double glazing.

The hotel was very close to Centre Parcs, which was great for us as we were visiting friends there. The triple room was a good size, comfy beds and very clean. the breakfast in the morning was lovely and would recommend this hotel to friends and family. The only thing I did miss was a good shower in the morning, as the room only had a bath with a shower attachment and no shower screen.

This is a very friendly family run hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the proprietor and her family and staff, even down to booking our taxi to the local restaurant, and the added touches such as complimentary sherry in the residents lounge. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to our friends. An excellent hotel for a couple of days away in the Lakes.

“We liked just about everything about it! Welcoming, friendly staff, comfortable room with a splendid bathroom and a view over the lake. The original art deco features give it a wonderful atmosphere. The evening meal was delicious but the highlight was enjoying a tasty breakfast whilst being entertained by red squirrels and birds feeding right outside the dining room window. Where else could you eat breakfast within 5 feet of a red squirrel? ” Heather, Sheffield |

“Dining at North Lakes was a delight. Beautifully presented dishes and tasted as good as they looked. Breakfast was also a feast - especially the sausages!! I must mention the woman who seemed to be everywhere in the restuarant and also in the bar, morning and night. She is a star worker and should be congratulated on the way she goes about overseeing the restuarant.” Margaret, Bo'ness |
