The Willowsmere ticked all the boxes for us. We were met by the owner who welcomed us, got us tea/coffee and then just gave us a quick but thorough rundown on the hotel and the surrounding area, The room was spotless, a four poster in the centre and TV on the wall, and everything else we would have wanted - tea making facilities, dressing gowns, toiletries, towels and a small decanter of sherry and concentrated orange, which were topped up each day. Breakfast was chosen from a menu, as it is cooked fresh for you, (and you can tell!) excellent quality produce used. We will visit again, and again, and again!!

Second time for us after lovely stay in 2009. Owners and staff very friendly, welcoming (after 5 hour drive that pot of tea on arrival was just the job) and helpful. Great old house full of character, very nice decor and very clean. Clean and comfortable room, plenty of storage, en suite with plenty of hot water for shower/bath. Excellent breakfast menu, top quality food, superbly cooked for our taste, good value. Good parking and ideal location for those who like to tour the area. One very small request, and this is purely down to personal preference, would like one soft and one firm pillow rather than two soft.

The Willowsmere is a very pleasant place to stay. It has the atmosphere of a family-run b and b but the comforts and quality of a good hotel. The couple who run The Willowsmere were very freindly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent, on both choice and quality. A little bit out of the way, which of course can be a good thing for some, but did mean quite a long walk to get the the 'action'.

Excellent staff and service, rooms super clean and serviced. Great breakfast. Easy to find and adequate parking facilities. Could do with evening meal option and a bar as nearest pub to eat was in town centre. Only 10 mins walk but long way in rain.

The Willowsmere has a nice central location with easy routes to various tourist attractions. Nice, friendly staff that made us feel welcome from the start and were available if we needed them without being imposing. We had a lovely, spacious king room with en suite that was good value for money and also booked a double and single for family members which again were good value for money. Great breakfast that was very healthy for a fry up! With a wide selection on the menu for vegetarians too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend and use the Willowsmere again.

Very good breakfast, nice room, nice property. Staff, when present, very helpful, educated, polite. Very clean, nice value for money - but read the negative points and pay attention if your schedule will fit! Beware when reserving: there will be no concessions. They are very strict with arrival time and breakfast time. They will close by 20h, and, if you have any problem in your way, you are not going to check-in, even though I suspect they live next door. No excuse will be accepted. Same to breakfast - in my opinion, fiishing too early for someone who likes to wake-up a little later in weekwnds. They will close by 9:15! When I checked-out, I wanted to live my bag there - don't expect these facilities - they will close on Sunday by noon. No mercy!!!

Nice guest house in terms of appearance and cleanliness. Nice garden but you can't use it after 8pm which is clearly prime time as most people in the lakes go out during the day. They say it is for security but it is clearly because they want to feel like no gusts are in the house, 8 pm coincides with reception closing. Breakfast is very tasty. Also the employed staff were very friendly and efficient. This place is run by a couple who have forgotten the first rule of business, the customer is always right. They were unable to cope with anything that was outside their regimented view of how a guest should be. It began with a phone call on the morning of checkin to ask why I did not return her messages. The real purpose was to ask if I'd like a king size or twin room. King please and I don't check my e-mails often as I have a busy life, sorry. When asking for a coffee after I drank my tea during breakfast it provoked her to roll her eyes with disapproval. People normally have one breakfast drink type. More is beyond normal and as simple guest I should know better. Thanks for making me feel uncomfortable, remember I am the customer paying 110gbp per night. On the final evening my girlfriend was poorly the whole night. Unable to go out to a restaurant I bought a Chinese with the intention of eating it in their lovely garden in the evening sun. Nope, in their hand book (which I didn’t read) takeaways are not allowed. They caught me walking in with a bag of food and despite me explaining that she was ill and it would be a bit weird for me to eat out on my own and I would eat in the garden so there is no smell they still insisted I leave the premises to eat it. Perhaps they didn’t believe my partner was ill. The next morning my girlfriend was conspicuous by her absence and they still did not think to ask after her health. It was beyond a lack of hospitality it was a lack of basic manners from the hosts that means we won't return.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent plenty of choice. It had a beautiful garden where you could sit out and have a drink on the patio whilst lisitiening to the waterfall flowing into the pond. It was comfortable very much my decor and cosy and homely.
