Rich in historic character and traditional charm, this stone-built coaching inn originally dates back to the 1500s. It offers comfortable en suite rooms, free Wi-Fi and ample free parking. Situated in the charming Somerset village of Beckington, it is 11 miles south of Bath and just 3 miles from Frome. The inn offers delicious freshly prepared dishes, including game from the local shoot, and fish delivered daily from Brixham. The bar serves fine traditional ales and has a stone floor and a large open log fire for those cold winter days. The courtyard garden is a great spot in which to relax in the warmer months. All rooms are traditionally furnished and unique in design. Each has a telephone, TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Hotel Rooms: 11, Hotel Chain: Old English Inns.

My sister and I stayed at The Woolpack Inn for a 2 day visit to the Longleat Estate. We picked it after first checking a number of review sites. A common theme was beware of room 5 and low and behold we got room 5. However, I'm really not sure what the fuss was about. Yes there was a low undercurrent sound of some sort of fan but it became part of the background noise in no time. The room was clean, warm and the beds were very comfy! We ate in the Inn on both nights and were very surprised how well priced the food was. I would say that apart from the young girl who served us breakfast on the Thursday morning, who was warm and bubbily, we found the staff to be quite reserved. However, we reckoned this may be a cultural thing as we Irish will take any opportunity to strike up a conversation. All in all a lovely warm, peacefull place to stay and I would happily stay again! If you are looking for a village with lots of social life this isnt it but a great central location for visiting local attractions - we saw Longleat, Stonehenge, The White Horse at Westbury and Salisbury Cathedral as well as visiting Bath. There is a fan noise in room 5 but as I said in the previous section this soon became background noise for me (not so much for my sister though who felt the need to put in ear plugs - she is a very light sleeper).

Had a lovely room with wood beams. The pictures don't do the place justice. Shame the management are moving on! Great breakfast & food was great in the bar too. Used the place for a visit to longleat & bath. Would def return as a real gem!!!

Nice rooms. The whole place had been renovated with original features with a modern twist. Staff were excellent. Would use again. Cooked breakfast was a little on the small side.

Check in and out was very efficient and the staff were very helpful. The room was small but adequate for our purposes. The breakfast was very good and valur for money The room was at the top of a very steep and narrow flight of stairs - we managed ok but it would have been difficult for anyone with even a slight disability. We were looking forward to our evening meal of the roast beef but even though we dined early the only thing left on the budget menu was roast chicken. We finished up paying considerably more for two steaks which were just ok - so the evening meal was very disappointing.

Although the Hotel is badly in need of a refit, (which is due to start in June we were informed), the ground floor restaurants and bar facility were very good and the staff were excellent! I complained about our room as certain things were broken and not functioning we were moved to a much better room without any problems, the dinner menu was very good and very reasonably priced and varied.Unfortunatley, when you have a building that dates from the 15th century it is very difficult to bring it up to date without spoiling the image. This is fading grandeur. nothing really apart from it requiring a revamp.

Location which was excellent for the purposes of our short holiday break. There was no lounge and the small car-park occasionally presented a problem when returning from a day trip.

It's central location to the tourist sites in the area. It's comfortable appeal from the room and pub bar perspective.Good choice of breakfast, cooked fresly. Sometimes the menu had run out of options. i.e. fresh fruit at breakfast with still an hour to go , no smoked salmon available .

Staff very good, as are facilities - remembering it is an inn and not a hotel per se (so no lounge as such). Food good and reasonably priced for dinner. Breakfast excellent. Great village setting, nicely quirky internal layout. Comfortable, clean bedroom and other facilities.

I loved the the fact that this Inn had character and history. It was really great there was a bath in the bathroom and not just a shower. The bed was super comfy. Parking was provided for the b&b and there were also places to park in the street if the car park was full. The pub food menu had a good selection and was resonably priced. I was really impressed with breakfast. Choice of eggs benedict, kippers, salmon and scrambled eggs, full fry up, pastries.. Could not fault the breakfast. A** WeI stayed for the weekend to visit Longleat and Cheddar Gorge.
